Washington University School of Medicine, located in St. Louis, Missouri, is the medical school of Washington University in St. Louis on the eastern border of Forest Park in St. Louis. Founded in 1891, the School of Medicine has 1,260 students, 604 of which are pursuing a medical degree with or without a combined Doctor of Philosophy or other advanced degree. It also offers doctorate degrees in biomedical research through the Division of Biology and Biological Sciences. The School has developed large physical therapy and occupational therapy programs, as well as the Program in Audiology and Communication Sciences which includes a Doctor of Audiology degree and a Master of Science in Deaf Education degree. Systema St. Louis teaches the ability to survive and win, in stressful, dangerous and violent situations in as close to actual environments as possible, in addition to states of extreme duress, and exhaustion. Systema St. Louis' training philosophy is based on the principles and philosophy of Systema - Russian Martial Art. With this combat system, special uniforms and belts are irrelevant. We don’t focus on learned stances and drills. We focus on teaching battle-proven skills that are quick, unsportsmanlike & lethal, and focus on a body’s natural positioning and movement to be able to efficiently strike, absorb a strike, avoid and re-direct from any position. Our training philosophy is not to be confused with any traditional fighting arts and/or combat sports fighting systems. We are not in the business of taking years to teach a client how to incapacitate or eliminate even the most basic fighter, but rather months, comparable to the time a special ops soldier has to prepare for an operation. There are just too many aspects of traditional fighting arts and sports-based fighting systems that are life-threateningly impractical and inefficient for the street and actual brutal violence. Our training is intense and demanding and nothing is off limits other than morality and legality. All training is conducted in a controlled yet extremely realistic environment, meaning no mats and pads, and real weapons are used (inoperable firearms and slightly dulled edged weapons). Essentially, we remove all of the elements that would give you a false sense of security. If you constantly learn how to fall, roll and/or maneuver on a mat and use rubber or plastic weapons, you are not training properly for actual battle or violence. Violence never happens in an emotional vacuum and learning how to operate when placed under stress and high emotion is a very necessary way to develop effective fighting skills/abilities. By educating your decision making process whilst under high emotion you will learn to both choose effective solutions and choose them quickly.

Curriculum Approach The Biome will be a model for integrating student-centered learning, project-based opportunities, and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) within a nurturing, academic ecosystem. The Biome’s curriculum and overall course of study will include the following core features: • Intensive provision of concentrated literacy and math instruction in the early grades; • Ongoing use of integrated/multidisciplinary units and lessons from kindergarten through grade 8; • Annual STEAM-focused and project-based thematic units, beginning in kindergarten and increasing in rigor and emphasis through grade 8; and • Year-end culminating portfolio presentations for 3rd – 8th graders. Initially, school leadership will use research-based purchased curriculum in literacy, math, science, and social studies to provide a foundation for ongoing curriculum development; however, the curriculum will ultimately be customized by experts with the aid of experienced classroom and school leaders, thereby ensuring that the curriculum remains rigorous and applicable to real-world settings. Grades Served The Biome will begin serving students in kindergarten and first grade, and will grow by one grade each year, eventually operating as a K-8 school by 2022-23. Student Benefits The Biome’s students will be dynamic and creative thinkers, working within an innovative environment with expert classroom leaders in whole- and small-group settings to first develop the core math and literacy skills that serve as prerequisites for ongoing learning, and then apply these skills in progressively challenging and aligned lessons and projects. A strong foundation of literacy and math in the early grades (K-2) will ensure that The Biome’s students will be prepared to engage in accelerated STEAM coursework and projects, culminating in students leaving The Biome with a portfolio of work exemplifying their experience and learning over the course of nine years. Tell me about the Mothers’ Club… In December of 1927, Fr. William F. Parry, S.J., then Principal of SLUH, called a meeting of the mothers of SLUH students to express his gratitude for the successful card party organized to help defray the cost of repairing extensive damage done to the school and chapel due to a tornado which swept through the city. At this thank you meeting, one of the women suggested the formation of a Mothers’ Club with the purpose of rendering financial assistance for the future as well as the present. This met with the hearty approval of all, and Mrs. Victoria Cervantes was unanimously elected the Club’s first President. Today, ALL MOTHERS of sons at SLUH are automatically members of the SLUH Mothers’ Club. No dues are required. Mothers’ Club fund raisers include CASHBAH, the SLUHlard Card Party, the SLUHtique Christmas Boutique, Trivia Night and the sale of our cookbook. We are not just a fundraiser organization however. SLUH's Mothers' Club is an opportunity for fun, friendship, and activities for others!

Soldan International Studies High School is located just north of Forest Park, in the western end of St. Louis' historic Union-Delmar neighborhood. The school re-opened in September of 1993 as an International Studies magnet. Soldan International Studies High School serves students in grades 7-12. Students, teachers, and other staff represent over 30 nations. The school's English as a Second Language (ESL) program serves over 100 students. Enrollment is presently in the 1000 range. All St. Louis area middle schools serve as feeder schools for Soldan International Studies High School. The Bunche International Studies Middle School serves as a direct sequential feeder with its identical magnet theme. Soldan International Studies High School is a college preparatory school that offers a wide range of courses in the school's specialty area as well as in the traditional disciplines. All entering ninth-graders are given an overview of the school's programs and policies in an Introduction to International Studies class. Six World Languages are offered and Advanced Credit classes in four discipline areas are available through the Univertsity of Missouri-St. Louis. Soldan International Studies High School is accredited by the North Central Association. Soldan currently offers its students several athletic and academic opportunities, including cross country, football, soccer, tennis, softball and volleyball. Its dropout rate is lower than the state average, and it is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.[3] It has several notable alumni and former students, including politicians, authors, academics, and athletes.
