Bank Street Bookstore opened in 1970 in a small space in the lobby of the Bank Street College. Before long, the bookstore’s success necessitated a move to a larger location on the corner of 112th Street and Broadway. Originally intended as a small store serving the needs of the college community, the bookstore has grown into a resource for the neighborhood and for the community of parents and educators worldwide. The last bastion of bookstores where the books are hand-selected and the sellers know their product. Andy Laties, the current manager, is the author of Rebel Bookseller: Why Indie Bookstores Represent Everything You Want to Fight for from Free Speech to Buying Local to Building Communities http://www.yippeeskippy.com/rebelbookseller/wordpress/?page_id=11 Check out the video for his book trailer, Amazilla VS Barnes Kong!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Sum03K6ycE

Adults, regardless of their musical ability, can help create an environment that supports children in achieving basic music competence. Children of mixed ages participate at their own level by singing, moving, chanting, listening, and exploring musical instruments. Parents and caregivers participate with the children and receive music development information about their own child. Together, music allows for fun and family bonding.

Society for Oral Reading of Greek and Latin Literature
Distance: 0.2 mi Competitive Analysis
425 Riverside Dr
New York, NY 10025

We cordially invite you to join the Society for the Oral Reading of Greek and Latin Literature and to share our experience in hearing and reproducing the true sounds of Homer, Vergil, and the other Classical authors. It is generally acknowledged that the literature of the Greeks and Romans is among the most beautiful and powerful expressions of the human mind. It is also generally known that this body of literature was created with the intention of being orally performed and aurally experienced by a group of listeners, large or small, and was not intended to be read silently with the eyes alone. The element of sound is therefore fundamental to a full esthetic experience and understanding of Greek and Latin literature. And yet, the traditional method of teaching Greek and Latin ignores or neglects the sounds of these languages, as if they were of little or no importance, thus depriving students of the basic literary reward of hearing and reproducing beautiful poetry. It is as if students were to study Mozart solely from musical scores and not be given the opportunity of hearing his music.
