The Center for Global Citizenship is a 70,000-square-foot center which brings the Cross Cultural Center, the Center for Service and Community Engagement, the Center for Intercultural Studies, and the Center for International Studies under one roof, and adjacent to the English as a Second Language Program, the Center for Sustainability and the Office of International Services located in Des Peres Hall. The Center is available for events, both SLU sponsored and externally hosted, which support the mission to promote collaboration across the University to educate and engage the SLU community for global awareness, responsibility, and participation. The consortium located in the Center for Global Citizenship and Des Peres Hall will also collaborate to offer speakers, programs and events which promote global citizenship. With nearly 1,000 students from more than 70 different countries, as well as nearly 350 students studying abroad in more than 15 different counties each academic year, the new Center for Global Citizenship will help SLU transform students into educated and knowledgeable members of the global community.
Our Mission The mission of the John Cook School of Business is excellence in business education inspired by the Jesuit ideals of seeking truth, educating the whole person, and serving others. History of the School Founded in 1910, the John Cook School of Business is the 15th oldest business school in the nation. Although Saint Louis University had awarded commercial certificates to students since 1862, the students were still part of the regular collegiate department of the University. The idea of a separate school within a university for studying business was a new concept in the United States, even in the early 20th century. In 1910, however, Saint Louis University established a separate School of Commerce and Finance (C&F) due primarily to the hard work and persistence of Father Joseph L. Davis, S.J. Besides practical training in disciplines such as accounting and economics, Father Davis also believed that the modern businessman needed a general background in the liberal arts, particularly literature and grammar. In the early years of the School, classes met in Du Bourg Hall. But in 1931, C & F moved into its permanent home in a new building on Lindell Boulevard slightly west of the Law School. This building eventually would be named Davis-Shaughnessy Hall in honor of Father Davis and Martin Shaughnessy, a prominent St. Louis businessman, a graduate of the University and the primary donor for the construction of the building. A Comittment For the Future As the oldest business school west of the Mississippi, in the heart of a large metropolitan area, the school is well connected and respected in the business community. Classes are small so that professors and classmates can work together closely. At the same time, we think big when it comes to career planning, internships and opportunities to make contacts with business professionals in several disciplines of choice.

Saint Louis University School of Law, also known as SLU LAW, is a private American law school located in St. Louis, Missouri. It is one of the professional graduate schools of Saint Louis University. Opened in 1843, it is the first law school west of the Mississippi River. The school has been ABA approved since 1924 and is a member of the Association of American Law Schools. Housed in Scott Hall, the law school has the highest enrollment of law students in Missouri. It offers both full- and part-time programs. The school is also home to St. Louis University's Vincent C. Immel Law Library, which is one of the largest law libraries in the state of Missouri. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas studied for his bar exam at the old Omer Poos Law Library on the main SLU campus.It was the first ABA law school in St. Louis to accept African-American students. In 1908, the law school accepted its first female law students. Starting with the fall semester of 2013, the school will be located in Scott Hall, a new facility in Downtown St. Louis. According to SLU Law's 2013 ABA-required disclosures, 55.5% of the Class of 2013 obtained full-time, long-term, JD-required employment nine months after graduation.Degree programsMost students are enrolled in the full-time J.D. program. SLU LAW has the only part-time J.D. program in St. Louis. The school also offers dual-degree programs and an LL.M in Health Law and an LL.M Program in American Law for Foreign Lawyers.

Parks College of Engineering, Aviation and Technology is a college within Saint Louis University.HistoryFoundingParks Air College was founded by Oliver Parks in 1927. Parks was America's first federally certified school of aviation, holding the FAA Air Agency Certificate no. 1. Oliver Parks started as the sole flight instructor with two instruction aircraft at Lambert airfield. The venture nearly ended when Parks crashed a Laird Swallow training aircraft leaving only one remaining trainer and was unable to teach lessons while in the hospital. He bought 100 acres in East St. Louis in 1928, and built five buildings the same year. By 1929 Parks operated 35 TravelAir trainers with an enrollment of 600 students.Parks College was initially a publicly traded company. During the great depression, the Detroit Aircraft Corporation bought up eighty percent of the stock as part of a large merger of aviation entities. Oliver Parks sold most of his assets to buy back a controlling interest. The college students manufactured their own series of biplane aircraft, including the Parks P2A, which became the "hero" of books by author Richard Bach. The college quickly got out of the manufacturing business, selling the P2A rights to Ryan as the Ryan Speedster, and later the Hammond 100.In 1931 Parks offered an Executive Transport Pilot's course. In the 1930s those enrolled as aeronautical engineers, had to design, construct and test fly their own aircraft. By 1936 the enrollment reached 200 students, with a training fleet that consisted of 49 aircraft including the Kinner Sportster, and Lambert Monocoach twin.

Using a multi-media approach, the exhibit offers suggestions for becoming disability allies and educators. Components of the Minor Why Middle East Studies? SLU's Center for International Studies is excited to offer a minor in Middle Eastern Studies. While programs at other universities focus only on the role of Islam in this region in the contemporary era, the Middle East Studies minor at SLU offers courses that examine the roles of Jewish, Christian and Islamic cultures from ancient to modern times. We cover the geographic area of the traditional Middle East and also the areas influenced by or politically tied to the cultures of the Middle East, such as Spain and Africa. This broad introduction to the region provides a strong foundation on which to pursue further study. Language Requirement? This minor requires two semesters (6 credit hours) of university-level Arabic or equivalent proficiency; further language study is encouraged. Native speakers of Arabic are exempt from the language requirement, but must take an additional elective in its place. Students who are proficient in another Middle Eastern language should discuss their course of study with the director of the minor. Capstone Requirement Students will revise a research paper that was originally written for one of the elective courses from the minor. The student will present the revised paper during an annual capstone event their senior year. Courses A variety of electives allows students to tailor the minor to their individual interests. Students are required to take a minimum of 16 credits from approved courses in consultation with the Middle East Studies director. The Middle East Studies minor enhances other international programs offered at SLU, giving students a special perspective on a crucial part of the world. Study Abroad Though studying abroad is not required for the minor, SLU offers a wealth of Study Abroad programs to give students a comprehensive learning experience by studying in the Middle East in order to gain an even better understanding of this region. The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Saint Louis University offers a undergraduate degree in communication sciences and disorders and a master's degree in speech-language pathology. Our department is known for its commitment to develop culturally competent clinicians fully engaged in evidence based practice to improve the communication quality of life of the clients and families they serve.
The Medical Family Therapy Program is a program within the Department of Family and Community Medicine of Saint Louis University's School of Medicine. It is designed to train license-eligible Master's students in marriage and family therapy and doctoral students who are academicians and clinicians in mental health and primary care settings. M.A. in Family Therapy (medical family therapy concentration): The M.A. in Family Therapy is based on a systemic/relational view of individuals, couples and families. It fulfills the course and practicum requirements toward licensure in the State of Missouri as a Licensed Marital and Family Therapist. The program requires a minimum of 60 credit hours beyond the bachelor's degree. Prerequisites include 18 credit hours in the behavioral sciences. Program requirements include didactic courses, two semesters of practicum, three semesters of internship in a community mental health or primary care health setting and the attainment of a minimum of 500 hours of direct clinical contact. The concentration in medical family therapy prepares student to function as part of an integrated care team in addressing the biopsychosocial needs of individuals and families. Ph.D. in Medical Family Therapy: The Ph.D. in Medical Family Therapy is based on a systemic/relational view of individuals, couples and families. It prepares clinicians to work within an integrated care health setting in collaboration with medical and mental health professionals. Coursework focuses on theory, practice and research in the field of couple and family therapy with an emphasis on intervention in primary care medical settings and as adjunct health providers in specialty care. The doctoral program involves a minimum of 51 credit hours of coursework beyond the master's degree, plus comprehensive examinations and original research culminating in the dissertation (12+ credit hours). The Ph.D. has a clinical component in which students are trained in both mental health and medical settings as part of an integrated care team of health professionals. Students are required to complete a nine to twelve month internship. The Marriage and Family Therapy Doctoral Program at Saint Louis University is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.
The Annual Symposium on Medieval and Renaissance Studies provides a convenient summer venue in North America for scholars in all disciplines to present papers, organize sessions, participate in roundtables, and engage in interdisciplinary discussion. The Symposium is held on the beautiful midtown campus of Saint Louis University, hosted by the Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies. Intellectual humility is an intellectual virtue, a character trait that allows the intellectually humble person to think and reason well. It is plausibly related to open-mindedness, a sense of one's own fallibility, and a healthy recognition of one's intellectual debts to others. If intellectual humility marks a mean between extremes, then related vices (on the one side) would be intellectual arrogance, closed-mindedness, and overconfidence in one's own opinions and intellectual powers, and (on the other side) undue timidity in one's intellectual life, or even intellectual cowardice. The project will focus on a variety of philosophical and theological issues relevant to the topic of intellectual humility, as informed by current research in the empirical sciences, including: virtue epistemology; regulative epistemology; peer disagreement; intellectual humility, intellectual autonomy and deference to authority; religious pluralism; divine hiddenness; intellectual humility and theological method; biases, heuristics, dual-process theories and evolution; intersubjectivity and mind reading. The Saint Louis University effort complements the activities and research occurring under Templeton's Science of Intellectual Humility project by encouraging philosophers and theologians to integrate empirical research on questions surrounding intellectual humility into their own investigations.
