A James Beard-recognized chef and slow food devotee, Harding’s Executive Chef Ariel Fox pays homage to America’s culinary heritage with menu items like pumpkin pie soup; pan roasted hake with braised pork belly, quinoa, and yellowfoot chanterelle mushrooms; braised beef short ribs with grilled turnips, celery root and potato puree; and whole grilled Atlantic Branzini with white beans and green garlic. Chef Ariel’s “down-home” desserts include Griddle Cake topped with moonshine ice cream and raw maple syrup; banana splits; and warm apple pie. In addition to its extensive collection American beer, wine, and spirits, Harding’s offers an array of retro cocktails like the Manhattan, Old Fashioned, Sazerac, and classically prepared Daiquiri, all served up in style by the restaurant’s expert mixologists. Built in 1897, Harding’s resident space retains its historic charm with exposed brick walls studded with Civil War bullets, reclaimed wood floors, and an oversized, century-old American flag. Vintage mirrors and chandeliers hung from 25-foot ceilings that illuminate the spacious main dining room and bar, create an ambiance that is equal parts rustic and chic. About the Play: Giselle Davis, an African American woman becomes World Chess Champion just as Cormorant Technologies, Corporation, a tech company headed by her college rapist, Rodney "Hotrod" Hampton, unveils a super computer system which proves by moving first, White should always win. The play examines the actions and moral dilemmas of six students and their philosophy professor, while at college and at Cormorant, 25 years later. Exploring corporate technology and responsibility, religion, race relations and more, the play questions the causal relationships of events and outcomes thru the duality of determinism vs. free will, as deconstructed by classical physics vs. quantum mechanics. About the Playwright: Richard Hart McMahon grew up playing competitive chess in rural, NJ and went on to graduate Wagner College ('72) with a B.S. in Chemistry and minor in Philosophy. He began his career at the American Institute of Physics and then worked for a Fortune 500 global manufacturing company for 20 years in Planning and Development positions. During this time he moved to NYC and in 2000 embarked on a new career in investment banking. 1.White Wins!? reflects Rich’s wide-ranging work experiences and lifelong interest in chess, science and exploring our current condition and moral dilemmas through physics, philosophy and religion. Gallery SHCHUKIN is an international arts organization with a representative office in Moscow and gallery exhibition spaces in Paris and New York. Founded in 1987, the gallery specializes in modern and contemporary art and is dedicated to discovering and cultivating cutting edge contemporary artists. One of the first organizations to bring contemporary Russian art to international audiences, Gallery SHCHUKIN has exhibited established and emerging artists, including David Datuna, Sasha Semenov, Andrey Shchelokov, Aladdin Garunov, Vladimir Migachev, Natalia Zaloznaya, Igor Tishin, and many others. The gallery frequently collaborates with prominent art institutions in Russia, Asia, Europe, and Scandinavia including a group show of contemporary work at the Tampere Art Museum in Finland; “Russian Collection Presents...” at the United Nations in Geneva; “Russian Mind,” a group show of Perestroika era artists in Graz, Austria; “Matrix XX Century,” a collection of digital work commissioned for the Japanese International Telephone and Telegraph Corporation in Tokyo; as well as projects with The State Tretyakov Gallery and The State Museum of the East in Moscow. In October 2013, Gallery SHCHUKIN expanded to Europe, opening an exhibition space on Avenue Matignon in Paris, France, with a solo exhibition of installations by David Datuna, “Power And Beauty.” The newest location of Gallery SHCHUKIN, a two-level, 3,500-square-foot space at 524 W 19th Street in New York, opened in spring 2014.
