Gasparilla Directory is the central hub for all things Gasparilla and Pirate Fest related. Our focus is on the community, the Charitable organizations and the Krewes that make Gasparilla what it is... Of course, we also love all of the fans who support the World's largest and oldest Pirate Festival each year - arriving on Gasparilla day in Tampa over 500,000 strong! For more information contact Gasparillamedia.com . Gasparilla occurs in Late January each year (Since 1904) with three major Parades and one Maritime Invasion of the city of Tampa. The first Parade each year is the Gasparilla Children's Parade (The Largest Children's Parade in the United States). This is followed by the Gasparilla Pirate Invasion the very next weekend and the Parade of Pirates on the same day with attendance of over 500,000 Spectators. Then the Knights of Sant' Yago Knight Parade is held in Ybor City's Historic District.... The entire season is surrounded by Balls, Socials and all kinds of activities sponsored by the Tampa Bay area's over 65 major Krewes. This event is the longest standing Pirate-oriented festival in the world and attracts visitors from all over the globe annually. The economic impact is significant and the charitable contributions by all of the local Krewes and Gasparilla oriented organizations are considerable. Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy the great Florida weather and spectacular scenery, which usually precedes and/or coincides with other events in the area, such as the Florida State Fair and the Florida Strawberry Festival.
Rasa-Lila Fest - to unite the yoga and wellness community As yoga continues to expand its horizons throughout the United States, so does the vision of Nathan Bangs, founder and event planner for Rasa-Lila Fest. A yoga festival with yoga classes, musical acts including a fireside drum circle, and workshops from some of the most respected holistic health practitioners. And if that isn't enough to entertain the guests, Rasa-Lila participants have full access to stand-up paddle boards for use on an open lake as well as a complete vendor village featuring artists, restaurants, and wellness sponsors. Rasa-Lila, which can be freely translated from Sanskrit into “the dance of love”, has all the makings of a nationally sought after yoga and wellness festival. Like some of its older and more seasoned festival counterparts, Rasa-Lila offers festival goers a complete retreat package in a breathtaking and engaging natural setting. Tickets can be purchased at www.RasaLilaFest.com. For more information visit the website or call 813-644-9642 (YOGA). We love hearing your thoughts. Sometimes we stand outside life Waiting for a door to open to us Hoping the person behind that door Will let us in and be our friend I was once on the outside Until a door opened to me and Behind it I found not only a Friend, but a new world- a sisterhood- Now I stand behind that door- on the inside Helping to open it for someone else Who stands where I once stood. ~ Linda Parks

Real Life, Inc. where Real Learning is Found Everywhere is dedicated to supporting children, adults and families who are exploring alternative and supplemental learning opportunities in the Tampa Bay Area. We are making a positive difference by inspiring and encouraging individuals to explore the world freely at their own pace and in their own way. Real Life, Inc. is dedicated to helping adults, children, and families attain inspiration and encouragement. We are in support of the ongoing, voluntary, and self-motivated pursuit of learning. We recognize that learning is not confined to childhood or the classroom but takes place throughout life and in a range of situations. Learning takes place on an on-going basis from our daily interactions with others and with the world around us. Real Life, Inc. is based on utilizing universal learning opportunities. This is a non-linear process made possible through self-motivation with positive parent partnerships. The world is captivating and interconnected; our lives are increasingly interdependent. At Real Life, Inc., we allow multiple disciplines to come together in the learning process rather than relying on artificial separation between subjects. By encouraging individuals to learn by doing, we promote cross-functional innovation and a deeper level of understanding. Real Life, Inc. utilizes a culturally competent and strength-based approach to working with individuals and families. One case at a time, we hope to ease some of the overwhelming hardship that exists in the lives of struggling parents and children. We will do all that is possible, within the reach of our resources and funds, to help the general public receive educational, counseling and well-being services. The activities will be conducted by a number of volunteers, including our Board of Directors, to assist with the necessary details of each specific case. The organization will engage in various workshop events that will be open to the general public. Real Life, Inc. will work in collaboration with other non-profit organizations to reach a broader audience. Real Life, Inc. encourages and supports a lifetime love of learning. Examples of Individualized Services *“Positive and Peaceful Parenting support and training for frustrated parents who want to stop power struggles and start connecting with their child.” *“Children are interested in innovation and technology so they decide to organize, budget and participate in a Maker faire.” *“I caution you, the reader, to not confuse “Parents teaching the kids from their adult knowledge.” Rather, it is a conversation amongst equal minds learning together. No one is “the teacher” — we are all the students learning together.” *”School and learning, reimagined.” *”A nexus for like minded individuals with similar interest.” *”Serves as a learning laboratory to share recipes and philosophies of educating children with different methodologies.” *“A child or group of children are interested in pursuing Spanish lessons so Real Life, Inc. partners with the child to encourage his interest.” *“Artists, professors, musicians, and innovators from diverse fields lead demonstrations and exercises that broaden and enrich our families view of the world around them.” *“Families are interested in learning to do yoga together so Real Life, Inc. supports their interest.” *”If they’re lucky, a friend tells them about “Real Life, Inc. where Learning Is Found Everywhere!” Or they google “alternative schools” and stumble onto our website. They’ll call us, maybe come to an Open House, meet us,and possibly think, “This is too good to be true.” And if they make it all the way through learning about how we live and love lifelong learning, they’ll almost certainly have the pleasure of finding out that they were wrong. Real Life, Inc. is definitely not too good to be true.” *“Real Life, Inc. hosts a workshop on natural health alternatives.” *”For many people, field trips remain among the most memorable and enjoyable experiences of their school days. We embark on frequent field trips to all kinds of locations in our community. Field trips are enjoyable adventures and are integrated into learning to illuminate and serve as real world applications of key concepts. *“One month intensive couples counseling program to address issues and possibly prevent divorce.” *”Some parents watch the joy and excitement for learning fade from their kids’ eyes and turn to Kumon Learning Centers and their ilk. But other parents will think to themselves, “There has to be something better than this.” *”There are no worksheets, unless of course, the children take an interest to them. There are no report cards, standardized tests, or teacher-parent conferences. But if success is measured by how happily our families go about learning, we know we’re doing a great job.”

For the Participants The "Crit" course in Tampa includes several fast turns along paved and bricked roads. In the center of the crit course is Lykes Park. Lykes Park will feature a Wellness oriented festival for everyone in the family. The streets will be closed all day for the fast paced racing, but there is definitely something for everyone! For the Spectators A criterium, or crit, is a bike race held on a short course (usually less than 5 km), often run on closed-off city centre streets. Race length can be determined by a total time or a number of laps, in which case the number of remaining laps is calculated as the race progresses. Generally the event's duration (commonly one hour) is shorter than that of a traditional road race however, the average speed and intensity are appreciably higher. The winner is the first rider to cross the finish line without having been "lapped." Events often have prizes (called primes, pronounced "preems", and are cash or gifts) for winning specific intermediate laps (for instance, every 10th lap). A bell is usually rung to announce to the riders that whoever wins the next lap, wins the prime. Success in a criterium requires a mix of good technical skills — in particular, the ability to corner smoothly, while "holding your line" on the road, as well as rapidly and sharply — and riding safely with a large group on a short circuit and exceptional "sprint" ability to attack other riders and repeatedly accelerate hard from corners.

Hillsborough Lodge No. 25 F. & A.M. is Tampa's oldest Masonic Lodge, and home to the largest membership roll in the State of Florida. Our original charter was Instituted in 1850, with original membership records of only 61 Brothers by the end of 1851. Many of the Brothers and Past Masters of Hillsborough Lodge were very active in the Tampa community and leaders of this great city. Worshipful Joseph Robles led the defensive against Spanish invasion along the area we now recognize as Bayshore. Worshipful Abe Maas was a very successful entrepreneur as one of the principal owners of Maas Brothers in Downtown Tampa. Worshipful Vivian Gaither was an instrumental leader in Tampa, and now has a high school named in his honor, Gaither High School. Recently, our oldest living Past Master, Worshipful William "Shorty" Powell, Jr, pasted to the Celestial Lodge above. He was a Past Master of Hillsborough Lodge in 1959, a World War II veteran and a proud member of our Lodge. Hillsborough Lodge continues to be a pillar of strength within the Tampa community by continuing to promote the tenets of Freemasonry instituted by our ancient Brothers. Charity, hope, and relief to our fellow man and all of humanity is what our fraternity and Freemasonry is built upon. Food and toy drives, charity events for the Masonic Medical Research Laboratory, and support of the Masonic Home of Florida are just a few of the ways we contribute to those in need. In order to continue this work, we are always ready to welcome men of leadership, great disposition, and good moral character. Our Lodge is rich in history, and guided by the strength & bond of our Brothers. We invite you to browse our web site and learn about Freemasons and our Masonic Lodge. If Freemasonry appeals to you, please visit our Lodge or contact us via phone or E-mail at [email protected]
