Renowned French Baker Eric Kayser's first US location, in the heart of the Upper East Side. For his first New York venture, he has created a 4000 square foot, 104 seat space combining a cafe and a boulangerie, where customers can enjoy salads, French classics and of course, the famous selection of bread. Made with organic flour, the bread will be hand-kneaded, shaped and baked on site by the talented Kayser team. Half of the venue is dedicated to the two-floor baking facility, where everything is produced fresh, on site throughout the day. The bakery will feature all of the artisanal, handmade, natural breads, pastries, cakes and more, made onsite, and fresh throughout the day, every day. The café will serve breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee, dessert, pastries and ice cream seven days a week. Locations: 1294 Third Ave 1800 Broadway 921 Broadway 8 West 40 Street (6:30AM-7:30PM)
In 2001, chef Kurt Gutenbrunner was asked to open a café based on the fin-de-siècle Kaffeehaus to accompany the opening of the Neue Galerie, the showcase for Ronald S. Lauder and Serge Sabarsky's lifelong devotion to German and Austrian art. Gutenbrunner took this opportunity to open Café Sabarsky, which features approachable Viennese fare (including an acclaimed, traditional breakfast menu) and German and Austrian wines and beers in an elegant but relaxed setting. Café Sabarsky is outfitted with furnishings true to the period, including lighting fixtures by Josef Hoffmann, furniture by Adolf Loos, and banquettes that are upholstered with a 1912 Otto Wagner fabric.
