Our generation has some big challenges to tackle - from global warming to the rising cost of college, from homelessness to our collapsing health care system. It won't be easy, but by acting together we can find solutions. That's where we come in. Here at CALPIRG Students, we organize college students to solve some of the world's most pressing public interest problems. CALPIRG Students is an independent statewide student organization that works on issues like environmental protection, consumer protection, and hunger and homelessness. For nearly 35 years students with their campus PIRG chapters have been making a real difference in people's lives and winning concrete changes to build a better world. We give students the skills and opportunity to practice effective citizenship. Both here on campus and out in the world, we mobilize students to investigate big social problems, come up with practical solutions, convince the media and public to pay attention, and get decision-makers to act.

Its education programs and supportive network create opportunities for women to work together to increase local economic vitality and improve the quality of life in Santa Cruz County. Focused on women's issues and needs, the Women in Business Committee plans, organizes, coordinates, and implements the Chamber's highly successful quarterly Women in Business luncheons as well as the annual Womens' Leadership Forum and monthly Wake Up, Santa Cruz events. The motto of Artisans Gallery is “Dedicated to the Creative Spirit.” Artisans celebrates this by featuring American made crafts with an emphasis on the wealth of local artists that Santa Cruz and the surrounding communities have to offer. Artisans Gallery carries wall art, jewelry, glass, ceramics, metal work, pottery, woodworking, cards, candles, kid’s items, bath products and more. Artisans Gallery has rich history in Santa Cruz. Originally an artists’ cooperative, it was founded in 1976. On October 17, 1989, Santa Cruz was hit by a 7.1 earthquake, which destroyed much of downtown. In the face of tremendous economic and physical upheaval, the artists of the cooperative felt they had to disband. Fortunately, John and Juleen Lisher, local members of the downtown community, were determined to revive the store that had become a fixture of Santa Cruz. As Santa Cruz slowly recovered from the earthquake, the Lishers slowly expanded the size and scope of the gallery to carry artists from all over North America. In 1993, the Lishers hired 16-year old Linnaea Holgers (James). In February of 2009, Linnaea celebrated her 16-year anniversary with the store by purchasing Artisans Gallery. Linnaea has continued to be “dedicated to the creative spirit,” and has further expanded the gallery by offering rotating art shows as a part of downtown’s First Friday program. The items found it Artisans Gallery are meant to be used and appreciated, from preparing food on a unique wooden cutting board to enjoying coffee in a locally made ceramic mug to wearing a pair of handmade earrings. Artisans Gallery keeps in mind the words of William Morris, “Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.” Artist Policy We are dedicated to promoting hand made work by living artists and building relationships artists directly. We carry American made work from all over North America with an emphasis on local artists. We carry artists on consignment with a 50/50 split and we also buy outright. We do carry a very small portion of work made out of the USA, however our relationship is based with the artist who designs the work.

We are a catalyst for economic justice, creating jobs, self-sufficiency, and empowered communities. At Bootstraps Enterprises (BE) we believe that there are communities—such as lower income families with children, transgender individuals, older folks, veterans, ex-offenders and communities of color—that have historically experienced barriers to finding and sustaining fulfilling work with living wages. We seek to eliminate barriers to gainful employment and cottage industry ownership by providing training, technical assistance, capacity-building, and relevant counseling services in a family-centered, progressive co-working environment. We will carry out our mission through four programs: Sebenzana/Work Together: • A warm, vibrant co-working center will offer a productive well-resourced work environment and, importantly, a community of diverse allies sparking peer-to-peer connections and learning, key features of sustainability in social enterprise. • Our Work-Readiness Training Program will provide those unaccustomed to various work norms and practices with skills building workshops, a healthy work environment, and on-site social enterprise apprenticeships leading to the attainment of sustainable work outside of BE. Kucheza/Play Together: • A key barrier to work and small business ownership is a lack of affordable, safe, quality childcare. A cornerstone of our business model is an on-site Child Care Program enabling our members to focus on work while their children learn and play together in a developmentally appropriate licensed child care program. The childcare center is also a job-creating and revenue-making social venture. Manos Juntas/Create Together: • Entrepreneurship offers alternatives to the traditional (and barrier-riddled) workplace. Our Cottage Industry Incubator will foster and mentor historically disenfranchised entrepreneurs, providing technical assistance, capacity building, and microfinance services to both for profit and nonprofit start-ups. `Ōlelo A`o/Counsel Together: • Individualized Counseling Support is on hand at BE, facilitating the dynamic, transformative process of gaining internal and external means that enable confidence to navigate the world of employment and reach self-sufficiency
