The primary function of the Meramec Theatre is education. We desire to affirm the contribution of educational theatre to the improvement of the quality of life. We demonstrate this both in the traditional classroom and on the classroom of the stage. Within traditional theatre classrooms, emphasis is placed on the theory and the practical development and application of skills through a variety of educational processes for students, the production team and our audiences. Design meetings, auditions, work calls, rehearsals and performances on and backstage are laboratories where, under the guidance and supervision of faculty and staff members, students explore in a professional setting the many art forms that comprise the theatre experience. The entire process of production is viewed as a unique, valuable and relevant classroom that serves to increase theatrical knowledge, skills and appreciation in the practitioners as well as our audiences
