The artwork on view at the American Museum of Western Art represents a cross section of paintings that survey the art of the American West from the early 19th century through the age of industrialization. During the relatively short period of history illustrated by this collection, the West was transformed from Indian territory unknown to most inhabitants of the eastern United States into a settled region. Within only 90 years after the Louisiana Purchase, the “Old West” of Indian buffalo hunters, mountain men, pioneers, gold-seekers, and open-range cowboys had passed into history. Prior to its installation in the Navarre building in 1999, selections from The Anschutz Collection were widely exhibited throughout the United States and were also shown in Canada (Calgary), in Europe (Helsinki, Brussels, Munich, London, Paris, and Vienna), in the People’s Republic of China (Beijing and Shanghai), and in the former Soviet Union (Moscow, Novosibirsk, Tbilisi, and Leningrad). In addition to extensive exhibitions across the United States and abroad, 110 paintings from the Collection were exhibited at the Denver Art Museum in 2000 under the title “Painters and the American West”. While paintings from The Anschutz Collection have on occasion been loaned to other institutions for exhibition, the Collection remained private and unavailable for public viewing until 2010 when the American Museum of Western Art was founded as its permanent home. The Anschutz Collection surveys the history of the development of American Art as it pertains to the West and provides examples from all of the schools that contributed to that development.

The Kula Foundation* Statement of Purpose First, corporations are an inextricable part of any community that they operate in – from local to global. Corporations don’t work in isolation and these communities include a range of relationships beyond just shareholders. Employees, suppliers and customers are just a few key groups that must be considered in corporate decisions. A corporation, for good or bad, can reap the benefits or the costs of these decisions. Second, the government and the non-profit community will never be able to match the reach or resources of large global companies. Corporations are the single greatest wealth creators in the history of modern civilization and therefore, must be the driving power behind real social change. Through partnerships, corporations can solve the most intractable problems that face our communities including economic development, poverty, health and human rights. Third, we as a society are making more value-driven decisions about the companies we support and the products we use than ever before. Market awareness of a corporation’s beliefs and actions can be a source of punishment or a purchase trigger. To remain competitive, corporations must tap into the values behind the customer buying process and reflect those values as an organization. Finally, the Kula Foundation believes that there is a thread of enlightened self-interest between customers and corporations. While corporate philanthropy has its place, we ultimately believe that we will not see a substantial increase in social change until it is more aligned with the core functions of a corporation. When there is recognition of mutual self-interest and the necessity of shared investment, communities will scale the resources and address the causes critical to the health and well being of all. *The Kula Foundation is in the approval process of acquiring its 501(c)(3) status.

Our independent restaurant members bring amazing dining experiences to our community, while emphasizing Denver’s unique flavor and culinary flair. Independence as path to engagement. The art of the original meal creates the pathway to one-of-a-kind experiences. Camaraderie is critical to our success. Through our association, we all benefit from each other’s knowledge and wisdom, leveraging the strength of our numbers through shared market exposure. Support makes us all successful. By supporting the community around us – the community of independent restaurants, of local food growers and suppliers, and economic community, and our community at-large through ongoing efforts to raise awareness of conserving and preserving, buying fresh and buying local, we are educating future generations of restaurateurs and diners of the true value of independence.
Reading, writing, computing and arithmetic - The fundamentals of education have changed. It’s hard to imagine a job that doesn’t use a computer in some way shape or form, yet Colorado’s school system has struggled to close the technology gap for under-resourced youth. The gap between rich and poor is also a gap between those who have access to the opportunities technology brings and those without. In 2004, KidsTek, in collaboration with the University of Denver's Colorado Community-Based Research Network wrote a research study of the technology gap in Colorado - and its ramifications for our kids. Since KidsTek's inception, we have been working to to bridge that digital divide.
