The American Gymkhana operation will be executed by Rajesh Bhardwaj’s restaurant group which is behind the critically acclaimed Junoon in New York City. Bhardwaj will integrate management from his group as well as locally sourced talent to create a balance between proven culinary technique and the evolution of the restaurant scene in Orlando. The essence of the Gymkhana or place of assembly for the elite during the British Raj in India runs throughout the American Gymkhana concept. These establishments could be seen as the precursor to the advent of the country club; where British aristocrats mingled with Indian Royalty to celebrate special events, and watch sports matches such as polo and cricket. As a movement of strong thinker’s changed the landscape of India, Gymkhana’s formally known as Imperial Gymkhana clubs dropped the” Imperial” moniker and stood alone as Gymkhana’s and were taken over by well positioned Indians. To this day these institutions represent a bi-cultural relationship as well as the historical progress of change within the country. At American Gymkhana we have tried to recreate this duality of the past and the present to bring a modern approach to Indian Dining.
