The Wells Street Bridge is a bascule bridge over the Chicago River, in downtown Chicago, Illinois, United States, which was built in 1922. Standing east of the Franklin Street Bridge and southeast of the Merchandise Mart, the bridge connects the Near North Side with "The Loop." The bridge is double-decked, the lower deck carrying three lanes of traffic south over the river with sidewalks on both sides of the street. The upper deck serves as a bridge for the Chicago Transit Authority's Brown and Purple lines. Control houses for controlling the bridge are on the northwest and southeast corners of the bridge. The bridge was constructed during the first term of William Hale Thompson. The Chicago Plan Commission and Chicago Art Commission provided design input to architect E. H. Bennett. The bridge was completely rebuilt 2012-2013 by the Chicago Department of Transportation. The two leaves (north and south) were built off-site and floated on the river to Wells Street for installation. The other half of the bridge was rebuilt in place – the two portions closest to each river bank, containing the counterweights for the bascule bridge.

680 N Lake Shore Drive is a 29-story building located in the Streeterville neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. Originally named the American Furniture Mart, was completed in 1926. The two halves were designed separately: the eastern half by Henry Raeder, George C. Nimmons, and Max Dunning; and the western half by Nimmons and Dunning alone. At 474 ft tall and encompassing the entire block between Lake Shore Drive and McClurg Court, it was the largest building in the world when it was completed.ArchitectureConstruction of the American Furniture Mart was undertaken in two phases: the eastern section was completed in 1923, and the western portion in 1926. The eastern half is constructed with reinforced concrete, whereas the western half, as well as the tower, is steel. The easternmost portion of the building has a superstructure that was originally designed to hold a mooring mast for dirigibles, though it never was used for that purpose. The building was converted by David L. Paul to condominium and office space between 1979-84. Mr. Paul hired Lohan Associates, Inc. to be one of two architects. The design concept was Mr. Paul's. It is now home to 415 condo units divided amongst the building's three separate condominium associations: the Tower, the Lake, and the South residences. There is also 420000sqft of commercial office space, 65000sqft of retail space, and seven levels of indoor parking.HistoryDuring its early decades as the American Furniture Mart, no one appeared to notice the building's address: 666 North Lake Shore Drive, the numbers "666" being the Number of the Beast. In March 1988, the building's name was officially changed to 680 North Lake Shore Drive. A few months later, Playboy Enterprises moved their corporate headquarters from its location in the Palmolive Building to the location at 680 N. Lake Shore Dr. Since then, 680 has been colloquially referred to as the "New Playboy Building" and is commonly mistaken for the Playboy Building. Playboy moved all of their offices out of this building in 2012 and the Playboy sign was taken down from the Erie Street entrance to the building.

The Reid, Murdoch & Co. Building, also known as the Reid Murdoch Building, the Reid Murdoch Center or the City of Chicago Central Office Building, is a seven story office building in Chicago. It was constructed in 1914 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. It also has been designated as a Chicago Landmark. It is located at 325 North LaSalle Street in the River North neighborhood, alongside the Chicago River between LaSalle Street and Clark Street.HistoryThe building was designed by George C. Nimmons for Reid, Murdoch & Company to be used as offices and a grocery warehouse. It was used as a makeshift hospital on 24 July 1915 after the S.S. Eastland capsized in the Chicago River on the opposite shore, directly across from the building. In 1930 the westernmost bay was demolished, due to the widening of LaSalle Street, and the façade lost its symmetry. From 1955 the building was used by the City of Chicago, housing its traffic courts, the State Attorney's Office, and various city departments. In 1998 it was redeveloped by Friedman Properties. The building currently houses the headquarters of Encyclopædia Britannica.
