Our students, which number about 250 at both the undergraduate and graduate level, enjoy dedicated, personal guidance from our faculty. Our student body is diverse, our research spans experimental and theoretical studies of many fundamental areas of electrical engineering, and we enjoy strong partnerships throughout industry and with prominent national laboratories and federal agencies. Research experiences are integral to the education of not only our graduate students, but also for undergraduates through our Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program and similar activities. We also value the multi-disciplinary opportunities afforded by electrical engineering. As a student, you may find yourself working with engineers in other academic departments, marine scientists, medical doctors, chemists, biologists or physicists. Together with our dedicated faculty and excellent facilities, these exciting opportunities have helped us to attract top students to our department and prepare them for enriching careers.

The University of South Florida (USF) High School Equivalency Program (HEP) celebrates a proud tradition of twenty five years educating students from migrant and seasonal farmworker backgrounds. They are recruited to the University of South Florida through the efforts of an extensive recruitment network which includes the State Departments of Education and Labor, local school districts and community agencies. HEP students have dropped out of high school because of family mobility and a need to work to help their families survive. Although these students are of average and above average ability, their academic records are often inconsistent and poor, reflecting frequent school interruptions. Despite their disappointing educational histories, HEP students have a strong desire to succeed. Once enrolled in HEP, these individuals quickly become part of the university community and demonstrate extraordinary success. USF Pre-College invites high school students from throughout the country and around the world to an outstanding summer experience at the University of South Florida. Students with exceptional ability and promise will pursue academic interests, discover career opportunities, and explore the independence of university life. Beyond the classroom, group projects and social activities further the exchange of ideas with equally talented peers. Students may enroll in one or more pre-college programs, selecting from a broad spectrum of academic disciplines. Programs range from two days to four weeks and offer residential (overnight) or commuter (daily) access. Residential programs give students the opportunity to live away from home and experience the independence and responsibility of college life in a safe, secure, and supervised environment.

The goal of the Global Citizens Project is to prepare our students for success in a global society during their time at USF. Through a more globalized general education curriculum, culturally engaging campus events, and an award encouraging students to get involved as Global Citizens, the aim is to enhance global knowledge, skills, and abilities through these new or improved programs and opportunities.
Rooted in USF history as the oldest Living Learning Community on campus, the Honors Living Learning Community was established in 1988 to fulfill its mission to serve as an environment that fosters the growth and development of its residents academically, professionally, and personally.
As part of the University of South Florida "Herd of Thunder" Marching Band, the USF Drumline is one of the most visible and appreciated student organizations on and off the University campus. The Herd of Thunder performs at all USF Bulls home football games in Tampa's Raymond James Stadium, can be seen at select away games, and have made 7-consecutive bowl game appearances since 2005. Exhibition performances at select Tampa Bay Buccaneers home games and at area high school marching band festivals are a regular part of the band's Fall schedule. The USF Drumline has been featured in television ads for ESPN's Bowl Week and print ads for Yamaha Musical Instruments.
