The Shubert Theatre in Boston, Massachusetts, is located at 263-265 Tremont Street in the Boston Theater District. It opened on January 24, 1910 with a production of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew starring E.H. Sothern and Julia Marlowe. Architect Thomas M. James (Hill, James, & Whitaker) designed the building, which seats approximately 1,600 people. Originally conceived as The Lyric Theatre by developer Charles H. Bond, it was taken over by The Shubert Organization in 1908 after Bond's death.The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. In February 1996, the Wang Center signed a 40-year lease agreement with the Shubert Organization. In November 1996, the theatre reopened after being renovated with the first national tour of the musical Rent. As of 2006, it comprises part of the Citi Performing Arts Center.As of November 1, 2016, the theater will be named the Shubert Theatre at the Boch Center. The naming rights were purchased by the Boch family and will also include the Citi Performing Arts Center being renamed as the Wang Theatre at the Boch Center.

The Jacob Wirth Restaurant is a historic German-American restaurant and bar in Boston, Massachusetts at 31-39 Stuart Street. Founded in 1868, Jacob Wirth is one of the oldest restaurants in Boston.The Greek Revival building housing the restaurant was constructed in 1844. The Colonial Theatre is the oldest continually-operating theatre in Boston, Massachusetts, United States. Designed by the architectural firm of Clarence Blackall and paid for by Frederick Lothrop Ames, Jr., the theatre first opened its doors for a performance of Ben-Hur on December 20, 1900. Ben-Hur operated with a cast and crew of 350 people and featured eight live horses on stage in full gallop during the chariot race scene. The play was so mechanically and technically extraordinary, it was featured on the cover of Scientific American. It is located at 106 Boylston Street on Boston Common at the former site of the Boston Public Library. The Cutler Majestic Theatre at Emerson College, in Boston, Massachusetts, is a 1903 Beaux Arts style theater, designed by the architect John Galen Howard. Originally built for theatre, one of three theaters commissioned in Boston by Eben Dyer Jordan, son of the founder of Jordan Marsh, a Boston-based chain of department stores. The Majestic was converted to accommodate vaudeville shows in the 1920s and eventually into a movie house in the 1950s. The change to film came with renovations that transformed the lobby and covered up much of John Galen Howard's original Beaux-Arts architecture.The theater continued to show movies until 1983 as the Saxon Theatre. By then, the theater began to deteriorate both in appearance and in programming.In the mid-1980s Emerson College purchased the theater and restored it to its original Beaux-Arts appearance. The theater today is a performing arts center for both Emerson College and the community at large. It was the home base of Opera Boston. It is frequently staging shows by New England Conservatory, Teatro Lirico D'Europa, Celebrity Series of Boston, Emerson College's Emerson Stage company and the Boston Gay Men's Chorus. In 2003 the theater was again renamed the Cutler Majestic Theatre, after donors Ted and Joan Benard-Cutler.

Paramount Theatre is a Boston theatre located on Washington Street, between Avery and West Streets.HistoryThe Paramount opened in 1932 as a 1700-seat, single-screen movie theatre. It was one of the first movie houses in Boston to play talking motion pictures. The theatre was named after its original owner, Paramount Pictures. It closed in 1976 and most of the Art Deco interior decoration was destroyed in the 1980s during the removal of asbestos. In 1984, the building was designated a Boston Landmark by the Boston Landmarks Commission.In 2002, Millennium Partners agreed to restore the Paramount's facade, marquee, and vertical sign in exchange for city approval of their adjacent Ritz-Carlton Towers project. The city occasionally lights the sign at night. The city's hopes that the site would be developed by the Cambridge-based American Repertory Theater were not fulfilled.In April 2005, Emerson College announced plans to renovate the Paramount Theatre and build a performing arts facility in and around the original building. The $77 million project involved the renovation of the building and adjacent parcels of land into a complex containing a 550-seat theater, a Performance Development Center, a student residence hall, a 125-seat black box theater, a 170-seat film screening room, eight rehearsal studios ranging from 700sqft to 1900sqft, six practice rooms for individuals and small groups, a sound stage for film production classes, a scene shop, several classrooms, a restaurant, and up to a dozen offices for faculty and staff. Design was by Elkus Manfredi Architects, Boston. Acentech Incorporated consulted on the acoustical design of the facility, providing guidance on room acoustics, sound isolation between the stacked spaces on the tight urban site, and mechanical system noise control in the historic building.

People Making a Difference (PMD) organizes one-time, hands-on volunteer projects for individuals to help with; partners with businesses to promote effective community involvement; and trains and assists nonprofit leaders in strengthening volunteer management. By offering flexible project-by-project registration, PMD engages a variety of volunteers seeking opportunities for interesting, needed work, meeting other philanthropic people, and learning how local charities are solving complex problems. PMD organizes service projects assisting primarily small, community-based charities, the majority of which do not have adequate staffing and other resources dedicated to working with volunteers and so need assistance in order to involve volunteers effectively. PMD partners with businesses of all sizes to identify clear community service goals and objectives (like team building and morale development) and then to develop appropriate employee volunteer opportunities for groups of 6 to 100.

Urban College of Boston is a private, non-profit, co-educational, two-year college located in downtown Boston, Massachusetts. The college offers Associate of Arts degrees and certificate programs in 11 other areas.HistoryIn 1967 Action for Boston Community Development (ABCD) started the Urban College Program to meet the educational, employment and career development needs for adults, in collaboration with major Boston area colleges and universities. The school enabled students to earn academic credits toward undergraduate and graduate school degrees while acquiring job-related skills.In 1993, the Higher Education Coordinating Council of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts chartered the Urban College of Boston as a private institution authorized to grant Associate of Arts degrees in three areas of study: Early Childhood Education, Human Services Administration and General Studies.In January 1994, UCB enrolled its first degree candidates, both men and women.In 1995, UCB was granted Candidacy Status for Accreditation by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).In 1998, the affiliation with ABCD was re-cast as a partnership when UCB was granted 501(c)(3) status as a tax exempt non-profit organization. In September 2000, it became a fully independent college, while maintaining a partnership with ABCD.

In 1995, newly elected Mayor Thomas Menino challenged the National Trust for Historic Preservation to expand its National Main Street model to Boston. The result was Boston Main Streets, the first urban, multi-district Main Street program in the United States. Boston Main Streets now brings the technical knowledge of business district revitalization to nineteen Boston business districts.

The New England Foundation for the Arts invests in the arts to enrich communities in New England and beyond. NEFA accomplishes this by granting funds to artists and cultural organizations; connecting them to each other and their audiences; and analyzing their economic contributions. NEFA serves as a regional partner for the National Endowment for the Arts, New England’s state arts agencies, and private foundations.

DeMolay is an organization for young men between the ages of 12-21, and offers extremely rewarding experiences, especially in Massachusetts. Membership is open to any young man within the age group that demonstrates a significant interest. We plan our own activities, including statewide sports tournaments, all night lock ins, dinners, dances, and much, much more.

Columbian Lodge is an active, hard-working Lodge, well-known for a rich tradition of ritual and charity. Our monthly meetings consist of actively bringing in new candidates, conducting the normal business of the Lodge, and planning charitable events and contributions. Our Officers meet additional times during the month to prepare themselves for the meeting ahead. We donate both time and money to various charities, concentrating our efforts in the Boston area - specifically, we have hosted a basketball tournament for the Home for Little Wanderers for the last 12 years! We have also begun to get more active with Habitat for Humanity, the American Red Cross, myCHIP, and many others.

Boston University Lodge was granted its charter from the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts on October 8th, 1925. It was a very popular and active Lodge on the University’s campus and throughout the Boston community. Many prominent members of the Faculty and Staff composed its membership. President Daniel Marsh was a founding member and one of its most active contributors. He was joined by President Harold Case, Everett Lord (credited as the founder of SMG), Joseph Perry (University Treasurer, and Past Grand Master of Masons in Massachusetts), Ralph Lowell (Trustee), William Lombard (Trustee), and countless other Vice Presidents, Directors, and Deans at the University. The two founders of the Interfaith Chapel at University Hospital (now part of BMC/BUMC) were Leicester Potter and David Oler. The Lodge thrived throughout the first 50 years of its existence as men flowed to fraternities in search of the camaraderie they knew during the WWI and WWII periods. At its peak, there were over 275 Members. The Lodge provided annual lectures on campus, services of divine worship at Marsh Chapel, family nights, charity events, and much more. Unfortunately, just like many fraternal organizations, interest ebbed in the 1980′s and 1990′s. As a result, the Lodge became less active on campus and eventually gave its charter back to the Grand Lodge in August 1999. At this time, nearly $20,000 was donated to the University’s Library for the installation of personal computers to be used for researching and studies; a memorial plaque hangs in the African studies wing. In 2008, a few Members of other Lodges in Massachusetts that worked at the University set out on a journey to bring the Lodge back to prominence. Two such men were Richard Silverman, a Past Master of the Lodge prior to its surrender of the original charter, and James Howard, the currently presiding Master of the Lodge. These two men met for coffee on campus and started pulling together other Masons that worked or studied as Terriers.Slowly but surely, they were joined by over forty men who wished to see the Lodge re-born. In fact, on June 23rd, 2012 the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts returned the Lodge’s charter to a roster of 46 Members. The Lodge has ambitious goals to increase that number and return to their former glory. As of July 1, 2014 we have 60 members and will be initiating four in the fall. We are also working closely with the University to develop programs on campus which were once in place, from participation in interfaith services at Marsh Chapel, lectures on Fraternalism in American Culture, blood drives, social events, and more! These are exciting times for the Lodge, and we invite you to join us!
