The artwork on view at the American Museum of Western Art represents a cross section of paintings that survey the art of the American West from the early 19th century through the age of industrialization. During the relatively short period of history illustrated by this collection, the West was transformed from Indian territory unknown to most inhabitants of the eastern United States into a settled region. Within only 90 years after the Louisiana Purchase, the “Old West” of Indian buffalo hunters, mountain men, pioneers, gold-seekers, and open-range cowboys had passed into history. Prior to its installation in the Navarre building in 1999, selections from The Anschutz Collection were widely exhibited throughout the United States and were also shown in Canada (Calgary), in Europe (Helsinki, Brussels, Munich, London, Paris, and Vienna), in the People’s Republic of China (Beijing and Shanghai), and in the former Soviet Union (Moscow, Novosibirsk, Tbilisi, and Leningrad). In addition to extensive exhibitions across the United States and abroad, 110 paintings from the Collection were exhibited at the Denver Art Museum in 2000 under the title “Painters and the American West”. While paintings from The Anschutz Collection have on occasion been loaned to other institutions for exhibition, the Collection remained private and unavailable for public viewing until 2010 when the American Museum of Western Art was founded as its permanent home. The Anschutz Collection surveys the history of the development of American Art as it pertains to the West and provides examples from all of the schools that contributed to that development.

Rising 714 feet (218 m), the building currently stands as the tallest building in the city of Denver and the entire Rocky Mountain region of the United States. It was built in 1984, and contains 56 floors, the majority of which are used as office space. The Sherman Street Event Center is a historic building in the North Capitol Hill neighborhood of downtown Denver.The Moorish inspired building was constructed in 1907, as a meeting hall for the El Jabel chapter of the Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine . It has never been a true mosque in the Islamic sense. In 1924, having outgrown the building, the Shriners sold it to the Scottish Rite Masons, who renamed it. In 1995, the Scottish Rite sold the building to Eulipions, Inc. who converted it into a catering and events facility.

Denver Place is an office complex in Denver, Colorado, comprising the North and South Towers, Terraces and the Granite Tower. It is Colorado's largest commercial office property. Denver Place South Tower is the tallest building of the complex. It is 416ft tall, has 34 floors, and was completed in 1981. The Denver Place complex is located in the downtown area of Denver, Colorado and mostly consists of four high-rise buildings spanning two city blocks. The Denver Place North and South Towers take up the southeastern block. They were developed in 1981 by Devco Property Inc. from design by Marvin E. Knedler & Assoc. Architects, P.C. The South Tower is the tallest, reaching 416ft with 34 floors, while the North Tower is 285ft tall with 23 floors. The two towers are elongated hexagons made of silver grey aluminum panels contrasted by dark grey reflective glass. They sit diagonally from one another, connected by a six story terraced building. At street level is a retail mall. The building has won many awards including the 2005 Denver Metro Building Owners And Managers Association Building of the Year Award in the Earth Award category and the Gold LEED-EB Label for its green design.The northwestern block holds the Granite Tower (Denver), built in 1983. Formerly known as the Plaza Tower, this skyscraper stands at 398ft tall with 31 floors. At the north end of this block is the Ritz-Carlton Denver, the city's first and only Ritz Carlton, formerly an Embassy Suites Hotel. The building is 390ft tall and has 38 floors.Both the Granite Tower and the Ritz-Carlton parts of Denver Place were sold. Granite Properties paid $161 million for the Denver Place Plaza Tower at 1099 18th St., which includes the Embassy Suites Hotel, The Apartments at Denver Place and the Athletic Club at Denver Place. However, it simultaneously spun off the hotel, the luxury apartments and the health club to BWAB Real Estate Ventures.

Mid-century neon signs are in danger of disappearing all over the city of Denver. An example of why this is the case is exemplified in the story of Denver's main street: Colfax Avenue. During the 1950's, Colfax Avenue was better known to many westward travelers as Route 40. As these travelers ventured toward their mountain destinations, they were greeted by the bright neon signs of the city. These neon signs were made with great craftmanship and artistry and were designed to grab the attention of the multitudes of motorists traveling the strip. The motels along Colfax that many consider run-down and seedy today were popular tourist stops in the heyday of Colfax. After the opening of Interstate 70, which allowed travelers to completely bypass Colfax, the once-vibrant businesses along the street began to experience a decline. Today, the neon signs that survive are a reminder of an important era in the history of Colfax. These still-standing signs are in danger of disappearing for a variety of reasons. Reurbanization is bringing an influx of residents back into the neighborhoods along Colfax and leading to a demand for new development. The old restaurants, bars, and motels on Colfax as well as the signs that are attached to them are quickly becoming prime targets for development. In addition, many of these aging signs are in need of repair. It is often more cost effective for these businesses to replace their iconic neon signs with cheaper, lower-quality versions. In light of several recent examples of mid-century signs disappearing from the landscape, we at Save the Signs are doing what we can to encourage everyone to appreciate these signs as works of art that are worth saving.

The Brooks Tower is a 42 story residential building in downtown Denver, Colorado, United States. At the time of its construction in 1968, it was the tallest building in Denver, standing 420ft. In 2010, it is the thirteenth-largest building in Denver. It was also Denver's first high-rise residential building. Originally built as an apartment building, Brooks Tower was converted to condominia in the 1990s.Today it provides housing for students attending nearby universities, business people, and families. Located in downtown Denver the location of Brooks Tower provides easy walking access to all accommodations one may need. The Denver Performing Arts Complex located in Denver, Colorado, is one of the largest performing arts centers in the United States. Mayor Speer and the Chamber of Commerce raised $100,000 to celebrate the July 7 grand opening of the Auditorium with Denver's first national political convention, when William Jennings Bryan was nominated to run for President for the third time.Originally, the building was a multi-purpose structure: it accommodated concerts, operas, theatrical shows, conventions, basketball, auto shows and even circuses, with flags flying from its domes and light bulbs outlining its pediments, cornice, and corners. The proscenium of the original building was designed to be portable so as to create different-sized spaces for different events. When the proscenium was in place, the building was a 3,326 seat theatre with an extraordinarily large back stage area. When the proscenium was raised, increasing the seating capacity to 12,000, the stage and backstage area became large enough to hold circuses and rodeos.For several years in the 1920s and 30s, Music Week was an annual event in Denver. Various communities of the state presented musical programs and most of the performances were in the Auditorium. An opera or operetta was commonly included in the offerings.In 1921, a company of Denver musicians performed Flotow's Martha in May; of special historical significance was the fact that the two performances were broadcast by radio station 9ZAF, the first time ever that a full-length opera was broadcast.

The Colorado State Capitol Building, located at 200 East Colfax Avenue in Denver, Colorado, is the home of the Colorado General Assembly and the offices of the Governor of Colorado and Lieutenant Governor of Colorado. The building is intentionally reminiscent of the United States Capitol. Designed by Elijah E. Myers, it was constructed in the 1890s from Colorado white granite, and opened for use in November 1894. The distinctive gold dome consists of real gold leaf, first added in 1908, commemorating the Colorado Gold Rush. The building is part of Denver's Civic Center area. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Civic Center Historic District in 1974, and became part of the Denver Civic Center National Historic Landmark District in 2012.Serving as the beginning of the Capitol Hill district, the historic building sits slightly higher than the rest of downtown Denver. The main entrance hall is open 180 feet (55 m) to the top of the dome, about the height of an 18-story building. Additionally, the official elevation of Denver is measured outside the west entrance to the building, where the fifteenth step is engraved with the words "One Mile Above Sea Level." From this step, at 5280ft, the sun can be seen setting behind the Rocky Mountains. A second mile high marker was set in the 18th step in 1969 when Colorado State University students resurveyed the elevation. In 2003, a more accurate measurement was made with modern means, and the 13th step was identified as being one mile (1.6 km) high, where a 3rd marker was installed.

The Blair-Caldwell African American Research Library is a branch of the Denver Public Library in Denver, Colorado, in the United States that serves the Five Points neighborhood. It is also a research library with collections focusing on the history of African Americans in Denver and the American West. The library was conceived by Denver's first African American mayor, Wellington Webb, and his wife Wilma Webb, who observed that the history of African-Americans in Denver and the American West was under-represented. The library was envisioned in 1999 and designated the Blair-Caldwell African American Research Library in honor of Omar Blair, the first black president of the Denver school board, and Elvin Caldwell, the first black city council member. Ground breaking occurred in early 2002.The 40,000 square foot library contains three floors: The first level is a full-service branch library of the Denver Public Library with an entry gallery and exhibition and coffee bar areas; conference, meeting, and study rooms; and a collection of more than 35,000 books, magazines, and audiovisual materials in English and Spanish. The second level houses collection archives and a research library including video and audio histories and listening and viewing areas; papers and doctoral theses on microfilm; a research area and study space; archival storage space; and a gallery for programs by musicians, artists, and scholars. The third level is a museum that houses exhibits about the history of African Americans in Denver and in the Western United States. The exhibits include the desk that Wellington Webb used during his term as Denver's mayor.
