National Mechanics

Philadelphia, PA 19106

Built by famed architect William Strickland in 1837 the National Mechanics Building has seen banks, churches, clubs, bars and fires pass between its walls, and it’s still standing. This beautiful building, as much a part of Philadelphia history as any tourist attraction, now houses Philadelphia’s favorite bar and restaurant. The gothic, yet warm old world feel combined with refreshing attitudes make National Mechanics similar to Old City itself; a fresh mix of old world form and new world function. The peculiar name for our establishment stems from the building's original incarnation in 1837 as Mechanics National Bank. In fact, as the building was built before the invention of the camera, the earliest picture of the bank was in 1901, when the building featured a particularly snazzy sign reading "MECHANIC$ NATIONAL BANK." Unfortunately, the sign is no longer with us, but the spirit of the craft still is. Our décor is an allusion to all things mechanical from our homemade lighting fixtures to the strange devices running throughout the space to our uniquely designed bathrooms. All of these elements combined with a laid back and off kilter philosophy make this bar what it is. A place designed with real folks in mind and molded by time, our hands and the hands of many before us. Come in and check us out!

The 400 Greatest Beers You've Never Had ! The world's greatest beers deserve great food. We offer award winning fries, mussels, hamburgers, fish and chips and full dinner menu. Executive Chef Michael Naessens is of Belgian heritage and spent many years living and working in Belgium and throughout Europe. As a result Eulogy reflects the best of the Provincies van België (Dutch province) and Provinces de Belgique (French province). In addition the influences of Gallic Wars by Roman proconsul Julius Caesar in 58 BC brought Italian flair to Belgium. The Army of Flanders (Spanish: Ejército de Flandes) was a multinational army in the service of the Habsburg kings of Spain that was based in Belgium during the 16th to 18th centuries. Our particular family heritage in the Brugge region was strongly influenced by the Spanish in Belgium. Belgium is indeed the melting pot of Europe and as such our recipes have a wide range of influences. We feel as a museum entrusted with preserving priceless works of art known as great craft beers. We apply a diligence you will find no where else in Philadelphia. We use glycol coolers, nitrogen generators and blenders, dedicated glass washers, weekly line cleaning, proper glassware, glass rinsers and well trained staff to serve perfection. Eulogy is a state of the art presentation of beers coupled with the only authentic Belgian ownership in Philadelphia and an executive chef trained at some of the finest schools and restaurants available. We welcome you to enjoy a long standing Philadelphia icon.

It is said that under a moonless sky, in the hour just before the dawn when the world is at its darkest, that the mysterious entity behind Lucha Cartel was born. Growing up in the tiny village of Macondo, the enigmatic masked wrestler learned the mysteries of Lucha Libre along with what makes Mexican coke so delicious (we’d tell you but then we’d have to pile drive you) the dark arts of the cactus burger (we’d tell you but then we’d have to pile drive you - onto a cactus) and the alchemy behind the perfect margarita (we’ll just tell you if you ask.) Armed with this forbidden knowledge and obscured behind the glittery mask of the Luchador this faustian foodie journeyed to Philadelphia to found the legendary Lucha Cartel that you know today. Literally meaning “fight agreement” the name is an idiomatic expression for the acknowledgement of the implicit rules of life such as do unto others, tip your bartenders, and the Oxford comma. So come over and enjoy the fruits of our labor - the perfect Mexican fusion menu, craft beers and the preternatural aura of deep magical influence.

Home to lushes, laureates, lovers, laborers and lawyers, Coco's is the ideal place to treat yourself to gourmet food, interesting conversation and the neighborhoody-vibe you just won't find anywhere else. Coco’s is the evolution of generational ownership. John Cokos Sr. owned numerous establishments in North Philly. John & his brother, Gus Constantine, following the direction & advice of their father opened King Zog’s in Camden, NJ in 1973. After 9 successful years the brothers, still with the help & guidance of their dad, opened Coco’s @ 112 South 8th street in Philadelphia. Going from one city to the other was a risky proposition but it paid off! John & Gus weathered the early stages and established an eclectic, fun pub that survives and thrives ‘til today! John & Gus stood by each other as brothers do for 20 years. As luck would have it, John & Gus bestowed their luck to an irish friend, Mike Callinan, to take over Gus’ position. Since then John & Mike have been trying & succeeding in giving you the best food, service & atmosphere! Stay Awhile, John & Mike
