Resisting a culture of “no” in architecture, Min | Day says “yes”. Architecture is a big tent. Saying “yes” or “why not?” to opportunity, rather than fleeing perceived constraints increases the diversity and range of a practice. “No” limits the discipline while “yes” opens it up to unknown potentials. Principals EB Min and Jeffrey L. Day established Min | Day in 2003 in San Francisco, California and Omaha, Nebraska with the intention of saying “yes” to architecture’s potential. The contrasting settings of the practice—the urbane, topographically complex Bay Area and the agricultural checkerboard of the Great Plains—has deeply informed the attitude of the firm and fostered an open, expansive approach to design. The practice began with an evolving dialogue between locales, the West Coast and Midwest, but increasingly this is a dialogue between professional practice, academic engagement and pro-bono work explored through advanced craft, materiality and program. This approach yields rich and adaptable processes that have enabled the office to produce high-impact design for a wide variety of clients both well-funded and under-resourced. Projects exploit the interplay between actual and implied volumes and natural and applied color, shaping places that can be appreciated both for their architectural discipline and the sheer pleasure they afford. Surface materiality and color are important tools of space making that can reinforce or contradict the other components of spatial geometry, intensifying the experience or adding complexity. The work is rigorously detailed while eschewing strict formal order in favor of responsive, flexible spaces that remain open to the improvisations of everyday life. Design rigor can—and should—enable playfulness as well as sobriety. A significant component of Min | Day is the firm’s allied practice, FACT (Fabrication And Construction Team), a design-fabrication, service-learning lab staffed by interns and students at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. With FACT, Min | Day undertakes art installations, built-work commissions and master plans for creative non-profit organizations, often resulting in innovative social spaces. For Min | Day, FACT is a vehicle for advancing the dialogue between practice, academia and pro-bono service. By forming long-term client partnerships Min | Day educates students not only in design and fabrication but also in design advocacy. FACT has also generated unique partnerships such as the collaborations with state penitentiary inmates on a recent pro-bono projects. FACT will initiate a new center at the San Francisco Art Institute in Spring 2014 to work with art students on a design-build campus project. The work through FACT has been instrumental in Min | Day’s development of design computation, digital fabrication techniques and (affordable) material innovation. The nimbleness and flexibility required to realize FACT projects has also informed commissioned work in the office. Working with non-profit artists’ residency programs and galleries, for which capital development is a slow and discontinuous process, one can’t depend on rigorous control over form, light, and detail. Instead, the firm seeks ways of structuring experience that will serve to unify the work of wide-ranging teams and successors. Taking cues from a landscape design sensibility affords a productive approach to such projects with uncertain futures and long timelines. However, working with tech startups requires an agility and speed necessary to keep up with the fast pace of technology. Design takes cues for Action Painting - action architecture. CCA’s Interaction Design Program prepares students to create meaningful and innovative designed experiences in the realms of work, lifestyle, and play—from computers and mobile devices to interactive physical spaces, games, and social networks. By learning investigative research, systemic thinking, creative prototyping, and hands-on building, Interaction Design students are prepared to succeed and lead in this exciting field. Students develop technical skills (wireframes, flows, visuals, motion) for interactive canvases such as mobile, desktop, car, game console, film, sculpture, clothes, buildings and applications that can be applied to numerous industries, from business to entertainment to education to health. Our program takes a studio-based, collaborative, playful approach to preparing students for careers in this creative, vibrant and in-demand field.

Our rapidly changing society requires unique intellect, insights, and innovations from across sectors to successfully build the foundation for innovation in the public sphere. California College of the Arts' MBA in Civic Innovation is the first of its kind, and located in San Francisco, the innovation capital of the world. This program is perfectly positioned at the intersection of practical professional skills-building, the navigation and development of policy and politics, sustainable values, and leading-edge systems and design-thinking tools. Combined, these skills prepare students to design and lead more effective governance in our communities and governments. CCA's full-time, two-year MBA program has a flexible structure (five, once-a-month, four-day weekends of instruction and interaction each semester) that allows students to commute from all over North America. The Civic Innovation MBA encompasses 60 units of instruction, combining 20 full-time residencies of in-person instruction with 6 units of online interaction over a two-year period. While the program’s schedule is flexible, it is a full-time program (not an executive program). About 25% of CCA's MBA students work full-time in addition to attending the school. CCA offers comprehensive student loan services, and students who apply may qualify for some scholarships.

Safety Training Seminars provides American Heart Association CPR, ACLS, PALS, EMSA and First-aid certification classes in San Francisco, CA and in Concord, CA. We are able to teach CPR classes on site at a location or in our office. We also sell AEDs, defibrillators, and provide service and maintenance.

EVERY WEDNESDAY: Drop in class and milonga (dance party). 8 pm: Beginner/Intermediate class. Regular classes by Marcelo Solis. 9 pm to midnight: Milonga, with the best music. Each class begins with brushing the fundamentals: walking to the rhythm of tango, proper posture and body alignment, comfortable embrace. Every time we investigate a series of concepts using the movements of the dance, from very basics to more sophisticated. We will work on technical details through exercises and drills. I will demonstrate how the elements function in connection with the music, the floor, the partner, and other couples on the line of dance. The students learn to gracefully navigate the milonga floor as well as the whole cultural context of social tango. At Café Florida we play an exquisite selection of Tango, Milonga and Vals tandas; you’ll find a friendly and inviting atmosphere, where dancers adhere to the Milonga codes. Experience the connection of dancing Tango, join us. Prices: $15 one class and/or milonga. CLASSES CARDS: $44 for 4 classes for one individual. $72 for 8 classes for one individual or it can be shared by a couple that takes the classes together and dance together. JHess Studios is the teaching atelier of sculptress Alicia Ponzio and painter Justin Hess, with Justin’s personal working studio at its core. The Atelier system is a centuries-old tradition of training artists within the studio of an active professional artist, providing both a ‘classroom’ structure of education combined with the opportunity to work alongside with and learn from a professional artist. The studio itself offers 2,200 sqft of open studio space with light flooding in from large North and South facing windows. Housed in a historic building constructed in 1924, JHess Studios is located in the SOMA district of San Francisco and is easily accessible by major freeways as well as public transportation with plenty of parking in the surrounding neighborhood. Classes are held in the evenings and on weekends to better accommodate those with work, family and other personal commitments. As the skills involved take a great deal of time and practice to develop, students are welcome to take one or multiple classes in each session, or on an ongoing basis. Those who wish to replicate the curriculum similar to that of a full time academy, but without the full time commitment, are able to work with the instructors to design a suitable course of study tailored to their individual needs and schedule. Courses are offered quarterly throughout the year in Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Écorché and Anatomy, as well as week long workshops held regularly in January and the Summer.
