At the turn into the 20th century two major groups of the Croatian immigrants began to settle in Southern California. Among the first to arrive were Croatians from Dalmatia. The Pacific ocean was a perfect match for the Adriatic Sea they left behind. So, many of them chose to settle in San Pedro where they soon became an integral part of the local fishing and ship building industry. Ecclesially the majority of them have become affiliated with a local Catholic parish, Mary Star of the Sea. The other group arrived from Hercegovina and from the continental Croatia. They settled at the heart of Los Angeles. Having been involved in the heavy construction industry, they greatly contributed to the Los Angeles area impressive growth. The Exodus continued throughout the 20th century. Three large waves of the Croatian immigrants kept inundating the greater Los Angeles area, where most of them settled down. These immigrants were motivated to leave both for economic and political reasons. They were arriving in between the two world wars, after World War II and just recently during the Croatian war for independence. In order to advance their ecclesial adaptation, in 1910 the Croatian national parish was formed and the present church building built under the leadership of Fr. Anthony Žuvić.. In 1934 a parish hall was erected, and it served its multi-purpose design well over the years. The magnificent new parish center replaced the old parish hall in 1996. The present rectory was constructed in 1967.

It is one of the more popular areas for worship and tourism among Asian residents in the Los Angeles area. The temple is dedicated to Mazu, the goddess of the sea and patron saint to sailors, fishermen, and those whose cultures are associated with the sea, along with Guan Yu, the god of wars, brotherhood, and righteousness, and Fu De, the earth god.HistoryThe temple is affiliated with the Camau Association of America, a local benevolent, cultural and religious association primarily serving the local Chinese-Vietnamese refugees from Cà Mau Province, Vietnam. The group also supports Chinese, Vietnamese, Teochew and Thai Chinese communities. The original building of the temple was a former Italian Christian church located within what was formerly Little Italy; the building was purchased in the 1980s. Under a strong faith-based community in and outside of Chinatown, the temple was able to raise a great deal of donated money with which to build a larger temple hall. Construction of the new temple was completed and dedicated on September 2005. A new ancestral memorial hall was consecrated the following month.

WEEKLY SCHEDULE Worship: Sunday, 10:45 a.m. Bible Study: Tuesday, 11:00 a.m. HISTORY The church that we now know as All Peoples Christian Church can trace its roots back to the early twentieth century. The neighborhood surrounding the Japanese Christian Church and Japanese Christian Institute was hard hit by the interment of Japanese Americans during World War II. With the support of the United Christian Missionary Fund, the Reverend Dan Genung responded to the call and came to Los Angeles. Under Reverend Genung’s faithful leadership and in response to the needs expressed by the neighbors, All Peoples Christian Center opened a day care center in 1942 and now, offering a wide variety of services, is one of America’s oldest and most trusted place-based community organizations. Dan Genung was also instrumental in reviving the church and All Peoples Christian Church held its first worship service in 1946. All Peoples continues to embrace the vision of being a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, inclusive community of faith. WHAT WE BELIEVE: All Peoples Christian Church recognizes that God loves and accepts every person and that the ministry of Jesus included all people, even those excluded by society. All Peoples Christian Church is an Open and Affirming community where we continue to strive to be a living mosaic of faith, hope, and love. We seek God’s guidance and covenant with one another to welcome all people at the Table and into the full life and ministry of the church without regard to sexual orientation, gender identity, social or economic status, physical or mental abilities, age, heritage, or country of origin. Like most Christians, Disciples affirm: Jesus Christ is the son of the Living God, and offers saving grace to all. All persons are God’s children Beliefs and Practices usually associated with Disciples include: * Open Communion. The Lord’s Supper, or Communion, is celebrated in weekly worship. At All Peoples Christian Church we invited everyone to share in the sacrament, with the understanding that Christ is found in the breaking of the bread. No one is excluded. * Freedom of belief. We are united by our desire to follow the model of Jesus Christ and to worship God through his example. Persons are free to follow Christ’s teachings guided by the Bible, the Holy Spirit, study, and prayer, and are expected to extend that freedom to others. * Baptism by immersion. Baptism is the outward sign of an inner conviction. It is the visible expression of the covenant between God, believer, and Church. In baptism the old self-centered life is set aside and a new life of trust in God begins. Although we practice baptism by immersion, we affirm and accept other baptism traditions. * Belief in the oneness of the Church. All Christians are called to be one in Christ and to seek opportunities for common witness and service. * The ministry of believers. Both ministers and lay persons lead in worship, service, and spiritual growth.
