GhostRider is a wooden roller coaster at Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park, California. It is located in the Ghost Town section of the park, south of the main entrance. It is the longest wooden coaster on the West Coast of the United States.HistoryConstruction on the attraction proceeded so quickly that the coaster was completed and opened nearly six months ahead of schedule. In August 1999, an unsecured piece of wood from the track was lifted by a passing train and thrown into the queue. Five people sustained minor injuries and the attraction was temporarily closed for inspection and retrofitting of the track. On August 20, 2015, it was announced that GhostRider will be refurbished and restored for Ghost Town's 75th anniversary. The refurbishment, conducted by Great Coasters International, began on September 8, 2015, and was completed in June 2016. The refurbishment saw the overhaul of most of the track, the removal of the midcourse brake run, and the replacement of the PTC trains with GCI's Millennium Flyer trains.Ride experienceQueueRiders approach the ride near the entrance to Ghost Town. The queue begins by going through a mysterious mining tunnel and then going into the mine-themed queue house. After a wait in both levels of the queue, riders board one of the three GCI Millennium Flyer trains of the ride. The trains themselves are colored gold, silver, and copper, similar to the precious mining metals. The ride entrance, which is an eerie cave, was once part of the Pan for Gold attraction. As of May 2016, Pan for Gold has been moved back to its former location and the queue for GhostRider now snakes around it.

Xcelerator

Xcelerator is a steel launched roller coaster at Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park, California. The ride was Intamin's first hydraulically launched coaster, while also the fourth Intamin installation at Knott's, alongside The Sky Cabin, Bigfoot Rapids, and Perilous Plunge (removed in 2012).The rideXcelerator's powerful hydraulic catapult motor accelerates the train to 82mi/h in 2.3 seconds (about 1.62 g). It only uses 157ft of track to launch the train. The twin hydraulic catapult motor achieves a maximum of each while accelerating the train. Xcelerator's hydraulic motor system has the mechanical capability of accelerating vehicles to a speed of 117mi/h or more, though it only needs to hit 82. In order for a train to launch, it must "drift" back to "hook" into the catch car. Twenty-four volts are used to demagnetize a pin underneath the third car, causing it to drop. At the same time, two bellows actuators fill up with air, causing the two drive tires holding the train in place, at the train's rear, to retract. The brakes will lower while the train rolls back to hook, and the pin will then hook into the catch car—which is over 7ft long. Once connected, the motor will pull the catch car over nylon runners and launch the train. In order to stop the catch car, it passes over its own set of magnetic brakes. If the train is lightly loaded, the motor has to work harder to attain launch speed. Often the catch car may overshoot its ending position and down itself if it cannot attain the speed within parameters. The train must also clear the launch track within three seconds, or the ride will down itself and produce a shortshot. From the time the launch begins, the train has 8.25 seconds to pass over a proximity switch (Hall effect sensor) near the bottom the first valley, thus clearing the starting block. If the train does not pass over the switch within the given time frame, the ride will down itself.

Montezooma's Revenge is a steel shuttle roller coaster at Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park, California. It opened on May 21, 1978. Designed by Anton Schwarzkopf, it is one of eight flywheel-launched units manufactured for theme parks around the world. It is the last ride of its kind still operating in the United States, and remains one of the most popular attractions at Knott's Berry Farm. In a "behind-the-scenes" YouTube video, it was revealed that the ride had operated 1,422,272 cycles as of February 2012Unlike many other looping coasters, Montezooma's Revenge uses lap bars to hold riders in the seats instead of conventional over-the-shoulder restraints found on most other steel looping roller coasters. Following Cedar Fair LP's 1997 takeover of Knott's Berry Farm, fabric seat belts were added as a secondary restraint system.HistoryMontezooma's Revenge was named after the bluegrass group, Montezuma's Revenge, a musical act that performed regularly in the wagon camp at Knott's Berry Farm. Based on the launch mechanism for aircraft carriers, the flywheel-launched shuttle loop is a successor of the drop-tower launch shuttle, and predates modern LIM and hydraulic launch systems by over 15 years. The drop tower models had a large silo with a weight inside connected to a similar launch system. The weight would drop, thus pulling the cable and bob, launching the train. Drawbacks included no adjustments for inclement weather. Also, the drop-tower launch was nowhere as intense as the flywheel launch, taking almost two seconds longer to reach the same speed.

Jaguar! is a themed steel family roller coaster located at Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park, California, built by Zierer GmBH.Ride ExperienceRiders must be 48" or taller to ride.QueueRiders approach the ride through the temple in the Fiesta Village section of the park. Many Mayan-style drawings and paintings can be seen on the walls throughout the entire temple. The bottom queue is the most themed part. On one side, you can see prisoners that were imprisoned in the temple that are now just skeletons. On another side, riders see a giant Aztec idol with skulls on the side of him. The bottom walls are painted to show Aztec gatherings with prisoners and others. The queue winds through a series of rooms and tunnels. As you walk up the next ramp, you can see more skulls into the temple. Straight ahead, there is giant stone tablet of some more Mayan Jaguar Warriors with the head of a jaguar. To the left of that, there is another Mayan idol head. You can sometimes hear the roaring of the Jaguar, activated when the train enters the helix located at the end of the coaster. Tribal drums and other Mayan sound effects and also be heard. The queue rises in elevation to the station where riders board the roller coaster.LayoutThe ride starts out with ascending a lift hill after exiting the station. Next, the coaster goes to the left, and down slightly. After that, the coaster does banked right turn up, and then travels through the top of the temple (where the fire effect used to occur), and then goes through the loop of Montezooma's Revenge. The train then turns right and travels up a second lift hill. The track bends left, and the coaster goes through a series of bunny hills. As the track approaches the Timber Mountain Log Ride, it turns around. The train travels through some more bunny hills, then does a banked helix to the left. Finally, it goes into a brake run and arrives back in the station.
