The Soap Factory celebrates its 25th year as a laboratory for artistic experimentation, audience engagement and emerging cultural practice. A vital cultural anchor in the Twin Cities, The Soap Factory produces innovative programming across artistic disciplines and provides audiences with unique opportunities to explore contemporary art. Since its founding in 1989, we have commissioned and presented more than 300 exhibitions, performances and events; launched the careers of hundreds of emerging artists and produced nationally recognized programs. Love to bike? Hit the road with us! The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Upper Midwest Chapter coordinates six annual bike tours for riders of all levels. Each tour offers stocked rest stops, bicycle mechanics, rider assistance along the route, a T-shirt and a finish line meal.

Ka Joog is the leading Somali nonprofit organization tailored towards enriching the lives of Somali American youth by utilizing the positive elements of education, mentoring, employment, and the arts. Ka Joog’s mission is to create a better world by providing community-based, culturally specific programs and services to Somali youth and their families. Established in 2007 by a group of Somali young adults, Ka Joog focuses its efforts on encouraging Somali youth to “ka Joog” or “stay away” from negative influences such as drugs, violence, radicalization, and other behaviors that can be detrimental to their development and future. Instead, Ka Joog directs youth towards higher education, civic involvement, and a volunteer commitment to the community. Ka Joog helps Somali youth understand their options and make the right choices, through programs offering mentoring, tutoring, and job readiness training. Ka Joog also provide positive outlets through the arts, and encourages youth to share their talents with others.
Metro Meals on Wheels is the association of 32 Meals on Wheels programs in the Twin Cities metro area. With our program partners, we lead the effort to make sure people in our community receive the nutritious meals and the human connection they need to help them live independently. Meals on Wheels is a community-based service that provides fresh, nutritious meals delivered directly to the homes of seniors and individuals with disabilities throughout the Twin Cities. In addition to regularly providing healthy foods, caring volunteers provide social connection that helps meal recipients remain living independently in their own homes. With the help of Meals on Wheels programs, seniors and people with disabilities get the nourishment and human connection needed to support daily activities, while reducing the need for medical support. For some recipients, these daily meals are the difference between living in their own homes and moving to a nursing home. Meals on Wheels could not exist without the help of volunteers who deliver the meals and donors who help those who cannot afford it pay for the meals.

In addition, Meda hosts the Minnesota Procurement Technical Assistance Center (Meda PTAC) that helps all Minnesota businesses pursue government procurement opportunities. Meda PTAC offers specialized support for Women, Veteran, and HUB Zone businesses. Meda also operates a business development center under cooperative agreement with the Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) of the U.S. Department of Commerce. The Minneapolis MBDA Business Center connects Minnesota Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs) with business opportunities. The entire Minnesota 9-11 Tribute Concert is made up of VOLUNTEERS - including the Board of Directors who come together to plan the concert + program, ask for volunteers to participate, for donations from businesses and individuals ONLY to pay for the candles, music, printing programs + flags used at the concert. The Minnesota 9-11 Tribute is performed by an all volunteer orchestra and chorus. Rehearsals begin in mid August. Please visit our web site to learn more about this years concert. Students for Education Reform (SFER) is a student-led movement to end educational injustice. For too long, policymakers and powerful political interests have not heard our stories about the reality of the K-12 education system. As young people, we can tell stories of the truth of the present – and of the hope for a just future. We believe social change starts with these stories: SFER empowers students to take action stemming from their own educational experiences, acting with a relentless optimism for a better future in which educational equity exists for all children, regardless of race or background. We aim to be a powerful force for K-12 education policy and political change, through campus chapters that work at the national, state, and local levels to advocate for great teachers and quality school choices for all kids. What started as two students working for educational justice in their own communities eventually grew from one college campus to twenty, and from twenty to over 140 undergraduate chapters at two- and four-year colleges in over 30 states. Cofounders Our founders launched Students for Education Reform as college freshmen, each bringing a different perspective to the fight for educational equity: Alexis Morin is a lifelong public school student and was a local school board member in her Massachusetts district, and Catharine Bellinger is an aspiring teacher from Washington, DC. Together, Alexis and Catharine created a platform for college students to share their stories on one campus; by working with peers across the country, they grew SFER nationally during their sophomore and junior years. SFER’s members now represent the diversity of the American K-12 education system: the vast majority of us attended local district schools, while many others attended schools of choice – charter schools, parochial schools, and private schools. Together, we know what’s true, and what’s possible. As we grew, we learned the power our voices could have. We began with story-telling, and through sharing stories across chapters and states, we learned to organize not just for voice, but for student power rally. Collectively, we have taken actions hundreds of times – through public asks, speaking the truth to those in power; through amplifying our stories in the media; and through grassroots lobbying work. Now, we are organizing for action with even more urgency – demanding better schools and a great education system in every state and neighborhood. Every great social justice movement in this country has had college students at the forefront – now, we are standing on the shoulders of giants as we lead the student movement for educational equity.
