House of Sol is Chicago’s only free outdoor DJ showcase dedicated to the city’s home-grown sound of House Music. The event is featured as a part of Chicago’s annual Fiesta del Sol 4-day street festival, which attracts well over one million attendees every year. Since its inception in 2007, HOS has featured many of Chicago’s hardest working local DJs/producers who continue to make a name for themselves in some of the city’s biggest and most notorious nightclubs & venues. Some of the local artists who have participated over the past seven years include: Johnny Fiasco, Maurice Joshua, Iz & Diz, DJ Heather, Justin Long, Marshall Jefferson, Gene Hunt, Terry Hunter, Stacy Kidd, CZR, Lady D, Bear Who, John Simmons, Steve Poindexter, Kid Enigma, Andrew Emil, Jesse De La Pena, Ed Nine, Rob Threezy, Charlie Glitch, Frique, and many more! Now entering it’s 8th year, House of Sol continues to represent Chicago and our influence on today’s House Music culture. ::FIESTA DEL SOL INFO:: As mentioned, House of Sol is featured as a part of Chicago’s annual Fiesta del Sol celebration, which is an annual fundraising event organized by the Pilsen Neighbors Community Council (P.N.C.C.). P.N.C.C. is a grassroots organization founded in 1954. Its organizing efforts focus on issues such as education, healthcare, housing and civil rights. One of the main programs funded almost exclusively by the Fiesta del Sol fundraising is the “Fiesta del Sol Scholars Program”. Since 1997 they’ve awarded close to one million dollars in scholarship assistance to deserving area college students. The festival itself (which stretches roughly seven city blocks) is truly a unique experience. It features a wide array of activities for everyone in the family, from carnival games & rides, live music, food vendors, free health screenings, a college fair, and much more. Every year FDS averages over one million patrons over the 4-day event, making it the largest festival of it’s kind in the Midwest. --For more information on Fiesta del Sol & P.N.C.C., please visit www.fiestadelsol.org and www.pilsenneighbors.org

ACRE

ACRE was founded in 2010 in effort to provide the arts community with an affordable, cooperative, and dialogue-oriented residency program. ACRE’s residency takes place every Summer in rural Southwest Wisconsin. The property, set on 1000 acres of wetland, hills, and farmland, is home to such wildlife as deer, bald eagle, heron, hawk, and rainbow trout, and is strewn with a vast network of rivers and springs. The residency facilities include numerous buildings which provide for expansive communal work spaces, a screen-printing studio, an outdoor wood shop, an art and tech facility, and access to both digital and analog recording equipment. Accommodations are all recently built from salvaged timbers and furnished with individual bathrooms, kitchenettes, and decks. All meals are provided, and are prepared daily using ingredients grown in the surrounding area, which is renowned for its organic and sustainable agriculture and dairy farms. Residents have the opportunity to expand upon their individual practices and take part in optional programming within a collaborative community. Additionally, visiting artists are invited to conduct studio visits and present lectures, discussions, and workshops. Residents can apply for a 12-day residency or are free to determine the length of their stay for a reasonable day rate. The residency supports 25-30 residents at a given time. Over the subsequent year, ACRE endeavors to provide opportunities and exposure to its alumni. Each resident is given access to an online “flat file”, where they can develop customizable pages to present their work and are offered an exhibition opportunity at ACRE’s 400 square foot gallery space in Chicago or one of a number “partner galleries.” After each year’s residency, exhibition openings occur nearly weekly throughout the year. These efforts complement other activities and programming designed to create the conditions for a thriving and enduring arts network.

St. Adalbert Church (Kościół Świętego Wojciecha) is a historic church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago located at 1650 West 17th Street in Chicago, Illinois. It is a prime example of the so-called 'Polish Cathedral style' of churches in both its opulence and grand scale. The church is located on 17th Street between Paulina Street and Ashland Ave in the Pilsen area of Chicago. St. Adalbert has served generations of Polish immigrants and their American-born children; at its peak, parish membership numbered 4,000 families with more than 2,000 children enrolled in the school. Today the church is an anchor for the Mexican immigrants that have made the Pilsen area their home.History of Saint Adalbert'sSt. Adalbert's parish has seen many changes in the surrounding area since it was founded in 1874 to serve the needs of Chicago's Poles. This mother church of all the later Polish parishes on the West and South sides now serves the many Mexicans of the Pilsen neighborhood and has masses in Polish language as well as Spanish. A shrine of the Mexican patroness Our Lady of Guadalupe bears witness to the Mexican presence. The church itself is the gift of the Poles not just to the people of the surrounding area but to all of Chicago. It is truly a city treasure.Church design and decorationHenry J. Schlacks designed St. Adalbert Church and the adjoining rectory at 1650 W. 17th Street. The Italian Renaissance church with its twin towers and copper domes was modeled after St. Paul's Basilica in Rome. It was completed at an estimated cost of $200,000-on the north side of 17th St., between Paulina street and Ashland Ave.

St. Barbara's in Chicago (Kościół Świętej Barbary) - historic church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago located in Chicago, Illinois, at 2859 South Throop St.It is a prime example of the Polish Cathedral style of churches in both its opulence and grand scale. Along with St. Mary of Perpetual Help, it is one of two monumental religious edifices that dominate the Bridgeport neighborhood's skyline.HistoryFounded in 1909 as a Polish parish to relieve overcrowding at St. Mary of Perpetual Help. Reverend Anthony Nawrocki, brother of St. Mary's pastor Stanislaus Nawrocki was the first pastor, thus the founding of the parish was literally a family affair in both the literal and figurative sense.ArchitectureThe church was designed by the firm of Worthmann and Steinbach who built many of the magnificent Polish Cathedrals in Chicago. The Renaissance style edifice was completed in 1914, it is one of the few octagonal houses of worship in the archdiocese. There are 25 stunning stained glass windows, depicting the Gospel, and the lives of the saints.
