The landmark Fine Arts Building is located at 811 West 7th Street in Downtown Los Angeles, California. Also known as the Global Marine House, it was declared a historic cultural monument in 1974.ArchitectureThe building was designed by the architects Albert Raymond Walker (1881–1958) and Percy Augustus Eisen (1885–1946) in 1927. It is a compact twelve-storey block on an H-shaped plan with a facing of smooth and squared slabs of light-coloured stone.FaçadeThe first three storeys present a striking façade with a trapezoidal profile. The façade rises the entire height of the building, the side of which on the street is divided into three horizontal registers that echo the classic arrangement of a Renaissance palace in distinct lower, central and upper sections. In the Fine Arts Building as in its ancient Italian models, being closest to the eye of the beholder, the bottom section is the part on which the most sumptuous decoration and precise architectural definition is lavished. The façade's central axis is emphasized by a large entrance portal, with a rounded arch that rises the height of two storeys. This deep, splayed passageway has an arched lintel decorated with plant motifs that introduces serried ranks of arches on either side. They are resting alternately on small columns and pillars variously decorated with fantastic creatures and inlaid geometric patterns. The wall beneath the great arch is densely worked with volutes of acanthus leaves and concatenated circles simulating rope made entirely of terracotta reliefs. The entrance is divided in two by a column of green marble with a capital and decorated entablature on which the two smaller arches rest.

From its inception, as a not for profit organization, Artcore has dedicated itself to the task of finding and exposing artists locally and internationally whose work shows dedication, excellence and originality. Artcore focuses on artists of all walks of life spurring the creativity of both emerging and established artists. Artcore's operative word has always been "opportunity," both for the artists, and for the community to have access to art. Artcore is committed to its mission of making art accessible without the constraints of the market economy. As such it exercises freedom of choice based strictly on quality and contribution to the community. One of our strategies is to expand contact between visual artists regionally and internationally by seeking the artists’ involvement in our vision. Another strategy is to draw increasingly diverse audiences from the widest possible spectrum of our community. Mature developed artists will establish year-round art programs and workshops designed for children, youth and adults to discover visual arts and its core values.
Autonomie is an organic space for experimental projects in the arts. As a non-profit gallery our goal is to promote community building by cultivating an ongoing dialog about the arts with people from different economic, political and cultural backgrounds. Invitations to show at Autonomie are offered on a rotating basis to those individuals or collectives engaged in producing critical interventions in the field of contemporary art. Accepting the opportunity to show at Autonomie is only for individuals or groups that openly welcome questions about the context of their work, the general trajectory of their overture and the goals of their artistic practice. As such, Autonomie doesn't favor any particular medium or set of aesthetic criteria - all types of production are encouraged from the most immaterial of actions to every form of object based production.

2A Gallery Address: 400 S Main St #2A Contact: Calvin Phelps Email: [email protected] Website: www.2AGallery.com Phone: 213.924.3472 How is the project operated? This is an independent artist/curator ran space. How long has it been in existence? The space was founded in July of 2013. What was your motivation? To utilize a particularly unique space as a venue for creative production and exhibition. Number of organizers/responsible persons of the project. One. How are programs funded? The programs are self funded, but sales would certainly be welcomed. Who is responsible for the programming? I am, but I hope to bring together various viewpoints and voices. Number and average duration of exhibitions/events per year. I expect to have about 8 exhibitions a year with various performance or video screenings interspersed in that schedule. What kind of events are usually organized? Solo exhibits, group shows, video shows and performances. How is your programming determined? By the quality of the work. I listen to suggestions from artists and curator friends, as well as conduct as many studio visits as possible. In addition to emerging artists coming out of the various academic programs in LA, I listen to the advice of those who have defined the trajectory of contemporary art in LA. Do you accept proposals/submissions? Yes, but they must take 2A’s spatial limitations into account. What is your artistic/curatorial approach? I’m interested in interstices and how artwork can occupy those loosely defined spaces. What’s working? What’s not working? Everything seems to be off to a great start. Maybe I’ll have a different answer after there have been a few shows. What kind of role do you hope to play in your local art scene or community? I want to provide an intimate experience where people can come together and enjoy a specific work or show. I usually move opening events between 2A and my personal apartment down the hall from the space. What idea are you most excited about for the future? I have an idea to create a couple of video towers showing six individual works. The videos are short so the work can be shared by a larger number of people.
