In 2000, the California State Legislature passed AB1740, establishing the Child Welfare Services Stakeholders Group and charging it with reviewing existing Child Welfare Services (CWS) and making recommendations for improvement. A group of stakeholders was appointed to examine the current CWS system and make recommendations on how to improve it. The stakeholders group convened from August 2000 through June 2003 to examine California’s CWS programs, processes, and outcomes. The stakeholders group recommended to the California State Legislature that a clearinghouse be established in California to identify and evaluate promising practices for child welfare practice. In 2004, The California Department of Social Services (CDSS), who was tasked with creating the clearinghouse as part of their improvement strategies, selected the Chadwick Center for Children and Families - Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego, in cooperation with the Child and Adolescent Services Research Center (CASRC), to create the California Evidence-Based Clearinghouse for Child Welfare (CEBC). The CEBC, consisting of staff primarily from the Chadwick Center and CASRC, began planning and developing a web-based clearinghouse in August 2004. In June 2006, the CEBC website went live with the launching of two topic areas with a total of seventeen programs. Over the past 8 years, the CEBC website has grown exponentially and now houses information on over 300 programs in more than 40 topic areas and new programs and topic areas continue to be added annually.

At Murphy Canyon Little League, we strive to make our fields safe and fun for the whole family. We are proud to serve the boys and girls, league ages 4-16 years old, in the Murphy Canyon Military Housing Area of San Diego. Murphy Canyon Little League was first established in 1975 and in 2015 we celebrated our 40th year as a chartered Little League serving the Community of Murphy Canyon. So why Little League Baseball? We know you have multiple options to enjoy the family and community experience of baseball in the area, so you may ask why play Little League? History Little League baseball has the esteem of the longest running youth sports organization in the US. Founded in 1939 by Carl Stotz, Little League has grown to be the largest international baseball organization with over 2.6 million players annually. With seasons of play year around, development of players is essential and culminates each year with international tournaments at multiple division levels between June and August which can often be watched on ESPN. Federally incorporated It is important to also note that in 1964, and later amended in 1974, Little League was granted status as a Federal Incorporation which is the highest recognition that the Federal Government can accord an organization. What this means is, LL programs are incorporated across all 50 states and endows the program with protective integrity by the government. This has placed LL in the same category as the Red Cross, Boy Scouts of America, and Boys and Girls Clubs of America. It is the only youth sports organization so honored. Safety So what about the play? Over the years Little League has implemented multiple programs to not only develop the players but the community as well. Everything starts with safety. Little League is always evolving to ensure all participants can enjoy the game throughout their playing career in baseball with Pitch counts, Mandatory safety equipment use and management, Volunteer background checks, Mandatory concussion training. Nothing is more tragic than retirement due to overuse and Little League has made sure that it will not happen to your player with its ASAP Safety Program. This program ensures its youth players stay as protected as possible when they are playing the game. Community Little League also is very involved in the development of its volunteers as well. With Programs like the Positive Coaching Alliance, basic practice schedules for younger divisions, Umpire training, League Training, the Challenger program and the LL Urban initiative(pamphlet download) Little League wants to make sure that each community becomes stronger with friendships that last a lifetime. We are always looking for new Players, Volunteers and Sponsors in the community! Contact us for more information.

Applied in the family setting, Positive Discipline teaches important social and life skills, in a manner that is respectful to both the adults and children - raising young people to be responsible, respectful and resourceful members of their community. Children who grow up in Positive Discipline homes have a sense of connection to their community (home, school), feel their input is regarded as meaningful and are less likely to engage in "mis" behavior. To be successful members of the community children need to be taught the necessary social skills. Positive Discipline is based on the understanding that discipline must be taught and that discipline teaches. Family Meetings are a key component of the Positive Discipline home. Likewise, applied in the school setting, Positive Discipline educates teachers about the importance of belonging and significance, respect for all people, encouragement, strategies for reducing misbehavior, and the development of problem solving and communication skills for students and staff. One key component is regularly scheduled Class Meetings which provide a problem solving forum and reduce the number of interruptions to teaching time. Positive Discipline materials provide teachers with specific lessons to use with children from preschool to high school age to teach healthy self-discipline. Teachers report they enjoy teaching more because Positive Discipline promotes better discipline in their classrooms and more cooperation among students, thereby providing more teaching time.
