We are a group of artists who are also social outreach and health care providers who work with indigent elders. We live in the Mission District of San Francisco which is quickly gentrifying and losing its affordable creative community spaces. Our project is twofold, we are creating a community space that will allow artists in SF a space to show 'low brow' art. We plan to bring together artists and musicians focusing on art and music which is often shunned by the mainstream art community. We also will highlight creative gardeners who only use upcycled products and sustainable plants, and provide musical performaces of various genres, on suggested donation basis. Our mission is to bring multiple low brow ,non traditional artists and performers together to educate and entertain. Additionally, we will provide community art workshops to disabled elders, and people residing in rehab facilities. We will take our workshops to those who cannot come to us. Those whom are the most vulnerable of our population- Elders with dementia who reside in nursing homes. Rehab patients who are recovering from trauma and accidents. We have been hosting these workshops already for a few months , and have witnessed the healing effects of these art workshops and endeavors---and have been asked to embark upon this project and expand to other hospitals and institutions as well as host workshops in our gallery. Nursing homes do not have money to have staff who can provide art therapy and programs and we firmly beleive in the healing effects of art---and would like to bring these free workshops to those in institutions and upgrade their quality of life.
