Dating back to 1912, the Sea Scouts were found as part of the venturing program, as offered by the Boy Scouts of America. The Sea Scouting program, as is the Boy Scouts' mission, is to prepare the youth of today for outstanding moral, ethical, mental, and physical adult life. The Sea Scouts part is, to also instill maritime traditions and also practical work of handling, sailing, and maneuvering boats in a safe and secure environment. In short, we help to make young men into young sailors, and prepared adults; and you'll find no more suited than the leadership of SSS-601, City of Roses!
The Sea Scouts are organized much like Boy Scout troops- Where the Boy Scout troop has his numbered troop, we have 601, our official number so to speak. City of Roses is the name of our sail boat, and thus became the name of our "Ship." City of Roses takes any young man from the ages of 13 to 17.
The recruits and member for our program are what keep the program alive. You'll find in an age of technology and instant gratification we're around to bring back tempered and refined skills that require dedication and commitment- all carried out by our young and bright members. 13-17 years old, and the City of Roses is a male ship only (of course ask about co-ed and female ships I will take all questions). But our program can't continue without young members, and that's where you come in. If you know anyone 13-17 years old, or would like to involve your children, please email
