The Guild plays an important role in the development and expansion of health care services offered to the community by SJH&MC. The organization raises money to assist a countless number of patients by providing needed medical equipment, technology and services. Over the years, the Guild has raised over $15 million dollars for the hospital. Its major fundraising event is the annual Guild Dinner, first held in 1961. The Guild also sponsors other events throughout the year in support of the hospital. Money raised has been used to purchase much-needed equipment and fund innovative new programs.
St. John Mother Nurture Project strives to be a leader in innovative breastfeeding policy. Our "Made in Detroit” resources and spirit, coupled with our support from the WK Kellogg Foundation allow us to develop best practices that benefit the mothers and babies of our community. We talk about our progress, our perspective, and our challenges...here. The Mother Nurture Project includes a Prenatal Lactation Counseling Program at the St. John OB Clinic, allowing us to address breast-feeding questions and concerns before delivery, as mothers are making important decisions. The Mother Nurture Project also sponsors the Mother Nurture Club, a weekly post-discharge breastfeeding club for mothers and babies. In addition to our grant-sponsored services, we are proud of our St. John Outpatient Breastfeeding Clinic, the first of its kind in Michigan. The clinic was created in 2008 to address the breastfeeding concerns of women and babies after they have been discharged from the hospital--in any stage of their breastfeeding journey. Its unique design allows a detailed visit with a breastfeeding doctor and a lactation consultant. One day a week is dedicated to the care of the most vulnerable infants in our community, those discharged from the NICU on breast milk. Finally, Our inpatient Birthing Center features the most comprehensive lactation support 6 days a week. We are proud of our night shift coverage, providing seamless, coordinated breastfeeding help when mothers need it the most. Our inpatient center is seeking Baby-Friendly accreditation, leading the entire St. John Providence Health System down the Baby-Friendly pathway. The St. John Mother Nurture Project envisions a community where every mother and baby, regardless of race or address, can experience the enduring benefits of breastfeeding.
