Brigham Young University is a private research university located in Provo, Utah, United States. It is owned and operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and excluding online students, is the largest of any religious university and the third largest private university in the United States, with 29,672 on-campus students. Approximately 99 percent of the students are members of the LDS Church, and one-third of its US students are from Utah.Students attending BYU are required to follow an honor code, which mandates behavior in line with LDS teachings such as academic honesty, adherence to dress and grooming standards, and abstinence from extramarital sex and from the consumption of drugs and alcohol. Many students either delay enrollment or take a hiatus from their studies to serve as Mormon missionaries. An education at BYU is also less expensive than at similar private universities, since "a significant portion" of the cost of operating the university is subsidized by the church's tithing funds.BYU offers a variety of academic programs, including liberal arts, engineering, agriculture, management, physical and mathematical sciences, nursing, and law. The university is broadly organized into 11 colleges or schools at its main Provo campus, with certain colleges and divisions defining their own admission standards. The university also administers two satellite campuses, one in Jerusalem and one in Salt Lake City, while its parent organization, the Church Educational System, sponsors sister schools in Hawaii and Idaho. The university's primary focus is on undergraduate education, but it also has 68 master's and 25 doctoral degree programs.

The BYU Writing Across the Curriculum Program supports all faculty as they teach writing in their particular courses. Though First Year Composition and Advanced Writing provide an excellent foundation, students will only become proficient by writing throughout their university experience, in their various GE and major classes. Students need to learn the specific disciplinary expectations for writing; professors who are skilled in that disciplinary writing are best prepared to teach those skills. We realize, however, that training in teaching writing was not a part of most professors’ experience. Our office provides training and support to professors across the curriculum through the following opportunities. To register for any of the upcoming events, please contact us at writing.byu.edu. Please follow links for more information about the resources we offer. • Personal Consultations • Writing Matters Newsletters • Writing Matters Monthly Lunch Presentations • Writing Matters for Faculty, Too (Presentations to help faculty improve their own writing.) • Writing Matters Clinics (Hands-on workshops to refine classroom materials.) • TA Workshops on Teaching and Evaluating Writing • Style Matters Workshop (10-week course on writing style.) • Writing Matters Summer Seminar (A week-long seminar on WAC.) • Spring Modular WAC Workshops (A week of WAC workshops. Professors can attend as many or as few as they like.) • Spring/Summer Reading Group (A monthly discussion group.) Any questions? Contact us! Located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, Brigham Young University has had a long tradition of excellence since its beginning in 1875 as Brigham Young Academy. The university has grown to an enrollment of 30,000 full-time students, one of the largest private universities in the United States. Students come to BYU from all 50 states and 110 countries. The Chemistry and Biochemistry Department, with outstanding faculty, students, and support staff, is among the leading departments in research at BYU. It has had remarkable success in many areas including calorimetry, macrocycles, cancer therapy, and chromatography. One of the reasons for our research progress is highly qualified graduate students. BYU is sponsored and supported by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and welcomes students of all faiths who agree to live by the Church's high standards of moral integrity and excellence in academic scholarship and who will abstain from tobacco, alcohol, and other harmful substances. Admission to the university is nondiscriminatory, and students are admitted on a competitive basis without regard to sex, race, creed, religion, or disability, if they meet academic requirements and agree to abide by the university's standards of conduct. For more information on the Standards of Conduct at BYU, visit: http://registrar.byu.edu/catalog/2014-2015ucat/GeneralInfo/HonorCode.php
