Georgetown University is a private research university in Washington, D.C. Founded in 1789, it is the oldest Catholic and Jesuit institution of higher education in the United States. Located in Washington's historic Georgetown neighborhood, the university's main campus is noted for Healy Hall, a National Historic Landmark. Georgetown's law school is located on Capitol Hill, and the university has auxiliary campuses in Italy, Turkey and Qatar.Georgetown's founding by John Carroll, America's first Catholic bishop, realized efforts dating from the settlement of the province of Maryland in 1634 to establish a local Roman Catholic college in the face of religious persecution. Copley Hall is a traditional, co-ed, upperclassmen residence hall. Named for Fr. Thomas Copley S.J., this neo-gothic hall opened in 1932 and is a gray stone structure with arched doorways located across from the main gates. Directly in front of the building is Copley Lawn, a common site for student activity events such as barbecues, fairs, and concerts. It also serves as a popular site to study, throw a frisbee, or just relax during sunny days! Copley is one of the oldest residence halls on campus. There are many special features and spaces connected to the building, including St. William’s Chapel, Copley Formal Lounge, the Muslim Prayer Room, and the Copley Crypt Chapel of the North American Martyrs. Copley also contains a Multi-Purpose Room in the basement level for resident use.
Cooper Field is a 2,500-seat multi-purpose stadium in Washington, D.C. on the campus of Georgetown University. The field was originally used for intramurals and was adopted for soccer in 1994 as Harbin Field. The name was changed to "Multi-Sport Field, a placeholder pending final construction, to reflect the football team's use of the field starting in 2003. In 2015, Georgetown changed the name to Cooper Field in honor of a $50 million gift from Peter and Susan Cooper which funded athletic leadership programs at Georgetown and construction upgrades to the field.Unfinished ConstructionThe field has been awaiting further construction since 2005, when work was halted on completing permanent bleachers and other facilities. As a result, it remains the smallest stadium in all of NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision or Football Championship subdivisions.Several of the school athletics teams play home games there, including the Hoyas football team, the men's and women's lacrosse teams, and the Georgetown University Rugby Football Club. The professional Washington Bayhawks of Major League Lacrosse used the field for most of their games during the 2007 season. Lights were installed on the field in early 2009. The surface is artificial, made of FieldTurf.
The McCourt School of Public Policy is one of nine schools of Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. The McCourt School offers master's degrees in public policy, international development policy, policy management, and policy leadership as well as administers several professional certificate programs and houses fifteen affiliated research centers. The McCourt School has twenty-one full-time faculty members, ten visiting faculty members, more than one-hundred adjunct faculty members and approximately 450 enrolled students across the various degree and executive education programs.The school is based in Old North, the oldest academic building on the main Georgetown University campus. Formerly known as the Georgetown Public Policy Institute, the McCourt School became Georgetown University’s ninth school in October 2013 as a result of a gift from Georgetown University alumnus Frank McCourt.The school is led by Edward B. Montgomery, who became Dean of GPPI in August 2010. Montgomery was preceded by interim Dean William T. Gormley.HistoryEstablishing a public policy school in Washington, D.C. originated as an idea in the Georgetown University Department of Government and Economics in the late 1970s.In 1980, the Government Department instituted a certificate program and in 1982 hired two junior faculty members to teach courses in public policy. For the next five years, the Public Policy Program expanded, granting a master's degree program in government with a concentration in public policy to approximately 15 students. In 1985, the Government Department hired the first part-time director to help establish the framework for the Public Policy Program. By the late 1980s, enrollment in the program had grown to about 75 students.
LXR Hall was originally comprised of three buildings: Loyola, Xavier, and Ryder. The buildings were eventually renovated and connected to form one residence hall. LXR and Nevils, along with the Walsh academic building, are part of East Campus. These three share an outdoor courtyard which contains park benches, shady areas, and space to park bicycles. Close to M street, LXR and Nevils offer a great combination of near classes and activities for outside of class!
Alumni Square is an upperclass student residential complex completed in 1980 and comprised of four buildings named after Georgetown alumni: Groves, Beh, McBride, and McCahill. The complex is constructed right outside the University gates around a grassy courtyard with shade trees, park benches, and a brick walkway from O Street to N Street. The location offers a great place to study during the spring! University Townhouses surround the Georgetown campus along 36th, 37th, O, N, and Prospect Streets. Townhouses vary in size, levels, and capacity, and contain unique layout features. Some houses are designated as historic by the Georgetown Historical Society. While these houses serve as an alternative to on-campus residence halls, Townhouse residents remain conveniently close to campus and are able to obtain the same services as other residents.
The Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service (commonly abbreviated SFS) is a school of international affairs within Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., United States. Currently ranked amongst the top foreign service schools, it stands first in the world at the graduate level. Jesuit priest Edmund A. Walsh founded the School of Foreign Service in 1919, recognizing the need for a school that would prepare Americans for roles as diplomats and business professionals in the wake of expanding involvement by the U.S. in world affairs after World War I. The school predates the U.S. Foreign Service by six years.Today, SFS hosts a student body of approximately 2,100 from 80 nations each year. It offers an undergraduate program based in the liberal arts, which leads to the Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service degree, as well as eight interdisciplinary graduate programs. Its faculty include many distinguished figures in international affairs, such as former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, former U.S. Director of Central Intelligence George Tenet, former President of Poland Aleksander Kwaśniewski, and former Prime Minister of Spain José María Aznar.The School of Foreign Service is widely recognized as one of the world's leading international affairs schools and is sometimes referred to as the "West Point of the U.S. diplomatic corps." Named for Alexis de Tocqueville, the 19th-century French observer of America, the Forum endeavors to emulate Tocqueville's sympathetic and penetrating exploration of the origins of and prospects for American constitutional democracy. Sponsoring events such as conferences, lectures and colloquia on the campus of Georgetown University, the Tocqueville Forum hopes to deepen classical liberal learning and elevate the civic understanding of the students of Georgetown University and the next generation of citizens and leaders.
Georgetown University has long recognized Asia's importance in global affairs. Accordingly, the Asian Studies Program was established within the School of Foreign Service over thirty years ago to meet the demands for rigorous academic study of this critical region.
Welcome to the Georgetown Center for Economic Research (GCER) . Its primary goal is to foster an environment of open and rigorous scientific inquiry into current economic policy issues and problems, and to communicate its findings to academics and policy makers. Housed within the Department of Economics at Georgetown University, the Center brings together economists from across the University and elevates Georgetown's leadership role in informing policy. Among its many functions, GCER sponsors workshops, conferences, and lecture series such as the annual Razin Policy Lecture and the Georgetown Alumni Research Conference. GCER also disseminates research findings through its Working Paper Series, and promotes interaction among members of the greater academic community through its Distinguished Visitor Series, its Young Scholars Conference (sponsored jointly with IZA), and its various joint programs and initiatives.

The Women's and Gender Studies Program provides an interdisciplinary, critical, feminist and cross-cultural understanding of women, gender, and power in a global context.
The Office of Student Financial Services (OSFS) provides counseling services to prospective and current students and their families about: -Options available for financing higher education costs -Eligibility for assistance -Applying for and obtaining funding -Budgeting expenses and paying bills For both undergraduate and graduate students, the OSFS determines eligibility for assistance from federal, state and private financial aid programs based on the rules and regulations established by those external agencies. We also determine eligibility for Georgetown scholarships to undergraduates and assist in the selection of graduate students who receive university fellowships and scholarships. The office is responsible for delivering funds, which may include loans, employment, grants and scholarships from both public and private sources, to eligible recipients. There are more than 125 student financial assistance programs managed by or coordinated through the OSFS. Our client services staff members are available to assist you and answer your questions about financing your education Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST.

Biology is the study of life and any living creatures, including their structure, function, development, derivation, evolution, and distribution. Our program provides our students with a variety of affiliated programs, such as Global Infectious Disease (GID), Interdisciplinary Program in Neuroscience (IPN), Georgetown Environment Initiative, Center for the Environment, Program on Science in the Public Interest, Post-bac Program for Pre-meds, and Sigma XI Science Honor Society. Undergraduate students are given the opportunity to do research. The majority of undergraduate students conduct research in the laboratory, in the field, or computationally under the direction of faculty mentors in the Department of Biology, in the Medical Center, or at local research institutions. Other students commit themselves to developing lesson plans and engaging high school students in biology. All graduate students in the Department of Biology learn how to teach in a pedagogy course. They are provided with the opportunity to achieve a certificate in teaching apprenticeship. They are able to attain the certificate through participating in workshops sponsored by the Center for New Designs in Learning and Scholarship. Faculty have received credentials in pedagogy, attended conferences on biology education, and have published on teaching innovation. Through our outstanding and skillful faculties, the mission of the Department of Biology is to enable students to make creative and careful use of their knowledge.
Now in its twelfth year, the Carroll Round is supported through the generosity of The Sallie Mae Fund, Georgetown University's Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, Carroll Round alumni, and private donors. The goal of the Carroll Round is to foster the exchange of ideas among the leading undergraduate international economics students by encouraging and supporting the pursuit of scholarly innovation in the field.
