The 9/11 Memorial remembers and honors the 2,983 people who were killed in the horrific attacks of September 11, 2001 and February 26, 1993. The design, created by Michael Arad and Peter Walker, consists of two reflecting pools formed in the footprints of the original Twin Towers and a plaza of trees. The 9/11 Memorial Museum displays monumental artifacts linked to the events of 9/11, while presenting intimate stories of loss, compassion, reckoning, and recovery that are central to telling the story of the 2001 and 1993 attacks and the aftermath.

Leadership & Public Service High School was formed in 1993 in Manhattan as a joint project between Syracuse University's Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs and the Board of Education of the City of New York, as one of 30 newly formed "small high schools". Among the school's notable founders includes that of Syracuse University Professor Dr. Bill Coplin and S.U. Alumni Jane Present, chair of the Friends of HSLAPS. Due to the school's close proximity to the World Trade Center and Wall Street, it was one of the four high schools in Lower Manhattan area to be displaced by the September 11 attacks.HistoryBuildingThe building in which Leadership is currently located at, was a post-modern building, designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in 1975. The building itself was the home of the New York University Stern School of Business from the late 1970s to the early 1990s. In order to make way for the newly formed High School for Leadership and Public Service, the Board of Education of the City of New York, leased the building, 90 Trinity Place, from NYU. Until the renovations on the building were complete, Leadership was forced to share 3 floors next door with its neighbors, the High School of Economics and Finance (100 Trinity Place), during the 1993-94 school year.

Welcome to Church Street School for Music and Art! Since 1990, we have been dedicated to arts education for students of all ages and levels of ability. As the only not-for-profit school for the arts in Lower Manhattan, we extend an understanding and love of the arts to a community that is economically, socially and culturally diverse. Over the years Church Street School has truly become a community center: a safe place where parents share art experiences with their children, where groups of kids play in bands together, where audiences cheer on the performances of their neighbors, where those with the challenge of disabilities find a place to shine. The teachers at Church Street School are highly trained and experienced in their art, educational approaches, and belief in the accessibility of the arts to all. A group of acclaimed professionals from around the world, we leave space in our approaches to learn from our students too. With humble beginnings in a second floor loft, and three expansions in just over ten years, Church Street School is building a pre-eminent home for the arts, with sufficient programming and performance space to truly serve the communities of Lower Manhattan and beyond. We are growing our most popular programs, and evolving into areas of new technologies and multimedia integrations. This is an exciting time of growth, both physically and programmatically.

The Great Oaks Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to the launch and support of high-performing charter schools. There are three components to our mission: to prepare students for college success, to train highly effective classroom teachers and to invest in the communities in which our schools operate. Our academic model was inspired by the Match School of Boston, which has an extraordinary track record of success using the Tutor Corps model. Unrelenting College Focus A strong focus on building relationships with families and highly individualized instruction delivered by our Tutor Corps ensures that every student receives a high-quality education. Our schools have a culture of high academic and behavioral expectations, predicated on the belief that every child can learn and earn a degree from a competitive four-year institution. Redefining High-Quality Teacher Training Partnering with NYU, we created the Great Oaks Teacher Residency, which provides a pathway to teaching certification and a Master’s degree through a blend of coursework, mentoring and significantly more practical experience than a traditional theory-based graduate school of education. Investing in Communities The Great Oaks Foundation is committed to the vitality of the communities in which our schools operate. The shape this takes depends upon the needs of the community. In Newark, Great Oaks was a founding partner in Teachers Village. In New York City’s Community School District 2, Great Oaks addresses the community’s acute overcrowding by creating hundreds of new seats for downtown families.
