The Goethe-Institut Boston opened its doors on 170 Beacon Street in Boston's Back Bay in 1967. The Goethe-Institut sets internationally recognized standards in teaching and learning of German as a foreign language. It runs language courses compiles teaching materials, trains teachers, contributes to scientific research, and participates in politico language initiatives. OUT In Your Neighborhood STRATEGY At its core, OUT’hood empowers local residents to be agents for social change by embracing the concept of OUTness. OUTness is defined as being honest with yourself about who you are and sharing that openly with other people. While the term ‘OUT’ is most often associated with the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) movement for equal civil rights, the concept of OUTness resonates far beyond the LGBT community – especially in areas with high levels of racism, poverty and violence. Through lively public dialogue, OUT’hood will help empower neighbors to stay true to themselves, as well as create safer, more vibrant neighborhoods. OUT in Your Neighborhood involves three types of programs: COLLECTIVE CREATION The Theater Offensive artists work with community members to help them create original performances based on their own experience and present it in a showcase to their peers. This could happen in a modest way with a workshop that lasts a few hours or in a more serious way with an intensive workshop series lasting up to three weeks. NEIGHBORHOOD PRODUCTIONS Theater Offensive engages nationally renowned artist to get stories and input from people in our neighborhoods to use in creating their shows. Then we work with local groups, businesses, and neighbors to present a production of the show back in the neighborhood. COMMUNITY EVENTS Boston’s neighborhoods are rich with ethnic and local festivals, community organizations and businesses. We collaborate with them to cultivate a vibrant and culturally competent LGBT presence in these venues. OUT In Your Neighborhood programming reflects the diversity of the city of Boston, gives voice to underserved LGBT community members, creates avenues for cross-cultural dialogue and breaks down the barriers of homophobia, bigotry and hate.

Our trained, professional staff make meaningful, monitored matches bewteen adults ("Bigs") and youth ("Littles") between the ages of 7 & 12 who have common interests. Our match support team helps develop positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people.

The Beacon Hill Art Walk is an annual event that takes place on the first Sunday in June, throughout the nooks & crannies of Beacon Hill’s North Slope. The Margaret Fuller Neighborhood House was founded in 1902 as a settlement House providing information and services to help immigrants assimilate into American culture. For over a century, the organization has maintained a grassroots approach to services on a limited budget. Today we provide programs for all ages—from infants to elders. We have a busy food pantry, an out of school time program for children, summer camp, outreach to young adults at risk, heath related programs for seniors and men of color, community organizing, and an open computer center and free technology classes. We host community-wide events, financial, exercise, poetry writing, drumming and other classes and welcome the Area IV community to meetings and local gatherings.

Formed on 29 February 1988, the MIT Gilbert & Sullivan Players is a volunteer group of students and non-students at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge, MA) that performs the works of Sir William S. Gilbert and/or Sir Arthur Sullivan. MITG&SP occasionally performs other works, usually with some connection to Gilbert and Sullivan or the Victorian era.

More than 1-in-3 people will have cancer in their lifetime. Even more eye opening is that tiny, microscopic cancers are developing in our bodies all the time, even before we are old. It is whether blood vessels near these dormant tumors are held in check or instead grow that determines if the cancer will expand and spread. Angiogenesis is the name of the natural process that blood vessels grow in the body. How important are these vessels? The healthy body maintains its blood vessels in a continuous state of balance. Cancer develops into a disease when abnormal cells overcome this balanced state and new blood vessels grow to feed cancers. But these blood vessels are also cancer's Achilles Heel. Cutting off a tumor’s blood supply starves it of oxygen and nutrients. Forty years of research has now resulted in modern drugs that effectively combat cancer through anti-angiogenesis. These drugs effectively starve growing cancers in a way totally different from toxic chemotherapy, radiation, or surgery. Novel drugs based on this unique approach have been successfully tested in thousands of patients, been approved by the FDA and other drug agencies throughout the world and have helped increase the survival and quality of life of people living with cancer. The anti-angiogenesis approach has been proven to be an effective in fighting cancers. Targeting angiogenesis also provides an opportunity to prevent cancer. Certain foods contain natural molecules that can suppress abnormally growing blood vessels. What separates Eat to Beat is its focus on what you should add to your diet, rather than what to eliminate.

Individual state action alone is not enough to build a cost-competitive domestic offshore wind industry.

My mom, Margaret, was diagnosed in October, 2007 with Stage III Ovarian Cancer. Our family was devastated and had no idea about Ovarian Cancer. After learning more than we ever wanted to know, we realized my mom experienced all the symptoms – bloating, pelvic or abdominal pain, trouble eating or feeling full quickly, feeling the need to urinate urgently or often. After 11 months filled with doctors’ appointments, treatments, and side effects, my mom lost her battle on September 19, 2008. During the last three years of grieving, I had wanted to do something to honor my mother, but couldn’t decide what effort would be worthy of my mom’s name...until this fall. In September 2011, I launched a non-profit organization, Margaret’s Mission for Ovarian Cancer Awareness, to sponsor an initiative to obtain the first Ovarian Cancer Awareness specialty license plate in Massachusetts. In order for the Massachusetts Department of Motor Vehicles to begin manufacturing the Ovarian Cancer Awareness specialty license plate, we must obtain 750 pre-paid orders for the plate. Although the rate at which we are receiving applications is slow, we are dedicated to this effort and sure that we will reach this goal. The goal of this initiative is to raise awareness of Ovarian Cancer to educate women (and those who love them) about the symptoms and the importance of early detection, which can save lives. It is my hope that people will see this plate, Google it and learn all about this devastating disease to extend the lives of women, both young and old.
