The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Phoenix Children's Hospital is the largest pediatric program of its kind in Arizona, providing complete care for children diagnosed with malignancies and hematologic diseases. Using a family-centered approach, the Center provides comprehensive, personalized care to every hematology and oncology patient. Each child has his or her own team of physicians, nurses, social workers, physical therapists, nutritionists and more, who provide care throughout the treatment and healing process.
In January 2009, Phoenix Children’s recruited Dr. P. David Adelson, an internationally recognized neurosurgical and neuroscience expert in pediatric head injury and epilepsy, to lead our reorganized Center of Excellence, the Children’s Neuroscience Institute (CNI). Dr. Adelson serves as the Director of the Institute and Division Chief of Neurosurgery. Under Dr. Adelson’s leadership, the Institute brought together our specialists in neurology, neurosurgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurocritical care, neuroradiology, neuro-oncology and psychology. By uniquely engaging a multidisciplinary team of medical professionals for the care of children suffering from complex and interrelated neurological and behavioral conditions, the Institute aims to become the leader in multidisciplinary pediatric neurological care and basic science translational research in children’s neuroscience. In June 2011, Phoenix Children’s Hospital and St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center combined their pediatric neuroscience programs under the newly formed Barrow Neurological Institute at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Barrow Neurological Institute is consistently ranked in the top ten nationally for Neurology and Neuroscience by U.S. News & World Report. Phoenix Children’s Neuroscience Institute, recently earned its own place on the U.S. News & World Report Best Children’s Hospitals list for Neurology and Neurosurgery. The affiliation will meld the internationally recognized research and patient care expertise of Barrow at St. Joseph’s with Phoenix Children’s Neuroscience Institute’s. The new entity, Barrow Neurological Institute at Phoenix Children’s Hospital, is already the second largest pediatric neuroscience program in the country based on patient volume.
