Anchor has evolved from a small sewer pumping company started in Laramie Wyoming on October, 1 1999 into a viable oil and gas service company when we purchased our first Super Vac truck in 2003. A super vac is a large truck mounted vacuum cleaner capable of moving up to 5,000 cfm of air through a 6 or 8 inch diameter hose. These trucks are used for cleaning up spills of dry and wet materials. With the addition of the super vac we began cleaning closed loop drilling mud systems for our oil and gas exploration customers. We also use the Super Vac equipment to complete non-destructive excavations for pipeline customers and we clean culverts. Over the past nine years in the oil field we have been cleaning mud tanks on closed loop drilling rigs. Each oil base tank cleaning job we complete involves disposal of oil base mud. Our exploration customers are throwing away between three thousand to seven thousand gallons ($12,000 to $25,000) of oil based drilling fluid on every job we complete. We are on track to complete about 150 jobs this year (~150,000 gallons, ~$575,000). The disposal is not complete unless we add solidification. Solidification takes place when ‘waste’ drilling fluid is mixed with a drying agent (additional cost) such as fly ash or some similar material to adsorb the liquid and create a solid. The solid waste is then shipped via truck (additional cost) to a landfill or other approved disposal (additional cost) facility where it is managed. Some facilities manage via land farming and some just dump it and bury it. I have been working hard to get to a position to help my customers stop or minimize this wasteful practice. I plan to help reduce, reuse and recycle oil base mud by combining the services of tank cleaning and solids control.
