Formed by a group of business leaders and orthodontic professionals, the Colorado Orthodontic Foundation exists to assist underprivileged children and families in benefiting from orthodontic care. The Colorado Orthodontic Foundation is inspired by the vision of Rocky Mountain Orthodontics’ owner Mr. Martin Brusse. His vision was to foster a greater awareness and understanding among the general public about the benefits of orthodontic treatment, and to improve oral health within local communities. Mr. Brusse believed everyone should have access to vital oral and orthodontic care to develop better health, beautiful smiles, and confident children that can become leaders in the community. Thank you to all of the orthodontists and organizations that make COF possible!

Who We Are At the foundation of all CHUN does is the notion of civic participation - that we become a healthier, more vibrant community through the active involvement of the people who comprise our neighborhoods and strengthen our ability to work together toward common goals. CHUN is: •A neighborhood organization representing Capitol Hill for more than 31 years. Our boundaries are 1st to 22nd Avenues to the north and south, and from Broadway to Colorado Boulevard to the east and west. •A registered neighborhood association acting democratically to involve all who care and will participate to improve the quality of life in greater Capitol Hill. •Your neighborhood advocate representing your interests before City Council, State Legislature and administrative agencies. •Community members volunteering to protect, preserve and enhance the quality of life within CHUN's boundaries. •A forum for discussing neighborhood issues, including licensing, historic preservation, crime prevention, environmental concerns, neighborhood beautification, street maintenance, education and traffic control. CHUN is Preserving the Past CHUN has been active in helping to protect many Capitol Hill Landmarks. Among them are: •Bluebird Theatre •Mayan Theatre •Ogden Theatre •Temple Events Center •Milheim House •Crawford Hill Mansion •Quality Hill Historic District •Seventh Avenue Historic District •Wyman Historic District •Park Avenue Historic District •Alamo Placita Historic District •Humboldt St. Historic District •Porter Mansion CHUN is Improving the Present •The URBAN DWELLER - our monthly newsletter informs the community of issues and activities. •Neighborhood forums bring neighbors together to discuss and influence issues affecting them. Crime and safety concerns led to one of CHUN’s notable successes; the creation of Capitol Hill’s own police district, District Six, at Colfax and Washington. •Tree Projects - Each spring CHUN purchases and distributes trees to Capitol Hill residents and businesses at no charge. Over 4,000 trees have been planted since 1988. •Community Events - CHUN produces and organizes Denver's Capitol Hill People's Fair, candidates forums, Annual CHUN Wine Tasting, a National Night Out Neighborhood BBQ, a Capitol Hill Pub Crawl and more. •Zoning Issues - The CHUN Zoning Committee stays abreast and initiates the appropriate community action regarding various zoning and planning issues affection Greater Capitol Hill. Improves the physical appearance of the neighborhood through community clean-ups, code enforcement and cooperation. CHUN is Planning for the Future CHUN’s strength is its active membership; people involved in making our ommunity a better place in which to live and work. This takes place in a sharing, cooperative and social atmosphere. More specifically CHUN: •Promotes a sense of neighborliness. •Provides a powerful and unified voice to the city and state governments. •Encourages representation and cooperation among diverse groups. •Works on specific neighborhood problems such as crime, housing, education, environmental issues, and developing the neighborhood plans for Cherry Creek, Uptown and Capitol Hill/Cheesman Park. •Promotes a more positive image of the neighborhood through the Good Neighbor Awards, the CHUN Capitol Hill People’s Fair, and other events that “showcase” Capitol Hill as a great place to live and work.

Karis Community’s non-institutional, residential therapeutic community assists adults 21 years and older in making a gradual adjustment to independent living. Community members learn to make this adjustment by participating in our psycho-educational Empowerment Program. The Program improves the Community members’ quality of life by promoting their adjustment to mainstream participation in the greater community and helping them avoid future hospitalization. Being a part of the Karis means Community members learn to work with, share with, care about, and relate to others, so they gain realistic life experience that equips them for integration into the mainstream of life. This learning process is achieved through a rigorously monitored program of activities, including weekly support groups and daily interaction and involvement with staff and other Community members. Community members learn to set and achieve specific personal goals, re-establish vocational, volunteer or academic investment, and re-develop personal care habits. They are also enabled to develop interpersonal relationship skills and embrace awareness of their growing wellness. Karis Community serves 60-65 individuals per year, including current Community members and former Community members who attend monthly meetings of the follow-up Focus Group (where they can keep in touch with staff and each other and address any current issues).

In the mid-80’s, a group of volunteers from Trinity United Methodist Church offered a cup of coffee, a listening ear and a few job leads to Denver’s homeless community. Turnabout was founded as a 501(c)(3) organization in 1997, having identified a unique opportunity to provide targeted job readiness and other services that address core issues of homelessness and recidivism in order to help participants become self-sufficient, contributing members of society. In 1997, Turnabout began with a city grant to train and place ex-offenders into construction-related occupations. In 2000, Turnabout began a weekly class at the Denver County Jail, which is still ongoing. In 2002, we broadened our focus to programming in various areas of career and education preparation. Contracts and grants have included Community Corrections, Denver Workforce Centers, Life Skills at the County Jail, Denver’s Road Home, and Metro Denver Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development (WIRED). Turnabout has diversified revenue sources including an annual event (Turnabout Sunday at Trinity), various individuals and a combination of private foundation, state, and city funding. In 2009, Turnabout secured $200K in funding and donations to move from cramped quarters to our current, larger location one block off Colfax Avenue. This move has made it much easier for clients to find us, and has enabled us to grow our service capacity to over three times what it was in 2008. In 2010, Turnabout assisted a total of 5,327 unduplicated individuals. Currently, we are the only nonprofit organization in the Denver Metro area that exclusively helps former offenders reintegrate into society.
