The American Academy of Dramatic Arts is a two-year performing arts conservatory with bi-coastal facilities at 120 Madison Avenue, Manhattan, and at 1336 North La Brea Avenue, Los Angeles.HistoryThe oldest acting school in the English speaking world, the Academy in New York City was founded in 1884 to train actors for the stage. Its first home was the original Lyceum Theatre on what is now Park Avenue South. In 1963, the school moved to its current home, a landmark building designed by noted architect Stanford White as the original Colony Club.In 1974, the Academy opened another campus in Pasadena, California, which made it the only professional actor training school in both major centers of American theatrical activity. The Los Angeles campus moved from Pasadena to Hollywood in 2001 in a new building next to the site of the former studios of Charlie Chaplin.ProgramThe Academy remains dedicated to training professional actors. It offers a two-year program in which students have to be invited back for the second year. Auditions are held at the end of the second year for the third year company. As well as training for the theatre, it now offers courses in film and television, providing a structured, professionally oriented program that stresses self-discovery, self-discipline and individuality. Students who graduate in New York receive an Associate of Occupational Studies degree; students who graduate in Hollywood receive a Certificate of Completion or an Associate of Arts degree in Acting. Students from New York and Los Angeles can get a Bachelor of Arts degree from selected universities.

TRACES is performed by Mason Ames, Valérie Benôit-Charbonneau, Mathieu Cloutier, Bradley Henderson, Phillipe Normand-Jenny, Xia Zhengqi, and Florian Zumkehr with alternate cast members Héloïse Bourgeois, Sen Lin, and William Underwood. Les 7 Doigts de la Main translates literally as “the 7 fingers of the hand.” It is a twist on a French idiom (“the five fingers of the hand”) used to describe distinct parts united tightly, moving in coordination towards one common goal. Here it refers to the seven founding directors of the company (Shana Carroll, Isabelle Chasse, Patrick Léonard, Faon Shane, Gypsy Snider, Sébastien Soldevila and Samuel Tétreault) who, by combining their distinct talents and experiences, work towards their common artistic goals with the beautifully awkward dexterity of a 7-fingered hand. Peridance Capezio Center’s partnership with Capezio/Ballet Makers, Inc. has made possible the creation of this unique space, two large studios that convert to a 160-seat black box theater. Both organizations are dedicated to promoting the performing arts and developing the local and international cultural community. The venue offers exciting performance opportunities for emerging & established artists, for informal showings of works in progress as well as for complete productions. About the Play: Giselle Davis, an African American woman becomes World Chess Champion just as Cormorant Technologies, Corporation, a tech company headed by her college rapist, Rodney "Hotrod" Hampton, unveils a super computer system which proves by moving first, White should always win. The play examines the actions and moral dilemmas of six students and their philosophy professor, while at college and at Cormorant, 25 years later. Exploring corporate technology and responsibility, religion, race relations and more, the play questions the causal relationships of events and outcomes thru the duality of determinism vs. free will, as deconstructed by classical physics vs. quantum mechanics. About the Playwright: Richard Hart McMahon grew up playing competitive chess in rural, NJ and went on to graduate Wagner College ('72) with a B.S. in Chemistry and minor in Philosophy. He began his career at the American Institute of Physics and then worked for a Fortune 500 global manufacturing company for 20 years in Planning and Development positions. During this time he moved to NYC and in 2000 embarked on a new career in investment banking. 1.White Wins!? reflects Rich’s wide-ranging work experiences and lifelong interest in chess, science and exploring our current condition and moral dilemmas through physics, philosophy and religion.
