Moody Coliseum is an 7,000-seat multi-purpose arena in University Park, Texas (an inner suburb of Dallas). The arena opened in 1956. It is home to the Southern Methodist University Mustangs basketball team. It was also home to the Dallas Chaparrals and Texas Chaparrals of the American Basketball Association before they moved to San Antonio, Texas, as the San Antonio Spurs. It was also later a temporary home for the San Antonio Spurs.Moody Coliseum has been the home of SMU basketball since December 3, 1956, when the Mustangs defeated McMurry, 113-36. Moody has hosted Mustang Volleyball since the program's inception in 1996.It was also home to the Dallas Mavericks on April 26, 1984, for Game 5 of their Western Conference Quarterfinal series against the Seattle SuperSonics, locally referred to as "Moody Madness". The Mavericks won the game in overtime, 105-104.ChangesThe Coliseum has undergone several changes in the past few years to modernize the facility. In 1980–81, the newly remodeled E. O. ("Doc") Hayes Memorial Dressing Room was opened. In 1984, a new scoreboard was installed over the center circle and new chairback seats were built at floor level on the north side. In 1985, more chairback seats were added, this time in the west end. The original wood floor of Moody Coliseum was replaced with a new wood surface and new lighting was installed in August 1986. In 1996, the court was redesigned to mark SMU's entry into one of the premier basketball leagues in America, the Western Athletic Conference.

The post-merger university would retain the Southwestern name while occupying Polytechnic's campus in Fort Worth.

The SMU Mustang Mavericks is Southern Methodist University’s first and only country-western dance team. Started in 2008 by Philip Hughes, Aaron Rose, Haley Gatewood, and Ali Gatewood, the Mavericks have grown to be a well-loved part of the SMU community. Comprised of 15 couples, the team performs at various events on and off campus including talent shows, pep rallies, and charity events. The team is currently led by Stephen Boyd, Chandler Mason, Guy Stovall, and Lauren McManamon. If you are interested in joining the team, tryouts occur towards the end of every spring semester. "The University Honors Program in the Liberal Arts permits SMU's most ambitious and sophisticated students to experience challenging academic experiences beyond their major courses. But the Program also presents SMU faculty with opportunities: to develop General Education courses in subjects about which they feel passionate and to forge meaningful relationships with motivated students. At their best, Honors courses are dynamic, creative, and extended intellectual conversations in which students can move beyond acquiring information and toward a more complex engagement with the material. To encourage interaction between student and professor and among students themselves, courses may have a seminar format, and enrollment should be limited to 20 students whenever possible; it should rarely exceed 25. Honors courses should also have a substantial writing component as a primary means of evaluation. SMU Aquatics offers a wide variety of aquatics classes and opportunities to participate in organized events and open swim while maintaining a safe environment. Our lap lanes are always open during pool hours. Come relax by the tanning pool or jump in on a game of volleyball or water basketball. The Diversity Committee is one of nine committees created within the SMU Student Senate comprised of 15 undergraduate students and one graduate student.
