Power. Kingdoms. Lust. And the Will of one (anti-) hero who wants to do everything he can to conquer the one enemy he cannot beat: Death. Based on the epic from Mesopotamia, one of the oldest pieces of literature known to us today, "Gilgamesh - A Musical Epic" is a story of how Man went from Animal to God, told in the form of an epic rock opera with a live band. We bring together the rocky deserts of the mythical Middle East and the electrifying energy of Rock to challenge the gods themselves. The Broadway Theatre is one of only five playhouses that front on the street named Broadway. It opened in 1924 as B. S. Moss's Colony, a premiere film house. The most notable film that played there in the early years was Walt Disney's Steamboat Willie which opened in 1928, and introduced American audiences to an adorable rodent named Mickey Mouse. The theatre went "legit" from 1930 to 1934, when it was re-christened the Broadway. From 1934 to 1940, the house was once again dedicated to motion picture exhibition, and offered the premiere of Disney's Fantasia in 1939. In 1940, however, it returned to legitimate stage production and, except for a brief stint as a Cinerama movie theatre in the 1950s, has remained in the business of showcasing live theatre ever since.

The Winter Garden Theatre is a Broadway theatre located at 1634 Broadway between 50th and 51st Streets in midtown Manhattan.HistoryThe structure was built by William Kissam Vanderbilt in 1896 to be the American Horse Exchange. In 1911 the Shuberts leased the building and architect William Albert Swasey redesigned the building as a theatre. The fourth New York City venue to be christened the Winter Garden, it opened on March 10, 1911, with the early Jerome Kern musical La Belle Paree. The show starred Al Jolson and launched him on his highly successful singing and acting career. He played the Winter Garden many times after that. The Winter Garden was completely remodeled in 1922 by Herbert J. Krapp. The large stage is wider than those in most Broadway houses, and the proscenium arch is relatively low. The building is situated unusually on its lot, with the main entrance and marquee, located on Broadway, connected to the 1526-seat Seventh Avenue auditorium via a long hallway, and the rear wall of the stage abutting 50th Street. When Al Jolson performed there, the Winter Garden had a runway built, going out into the audience, and Jolson would run out and slide on his knees while singing, and the audience, not used to such dynamic and close-up showmanship from a performer, would go wild.

Since 1981 The Lincoln Plaza Cinemas has been home to films by Federico Fellini, Eric Rohmer, Jean-Luc Godard, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Robert Altman, Krzysztof Kieslowski, and Woody Allen, among other internationally famous directors. We are more exited, however, about playing films by new directors, discoveries that make it all worthwhile. To mention a few: Red Sorghum, the first film of Zhang Yimou, My Life As A Dog by Lasse Hallstrom, Yaaba by Idrissa Ouedraogo, Toto The Hero by Jaco Van Dormael, 32 Short Films About Glenn Gould by Francis Girard, Gabbeh by Mohsen Makhmalbaf and more recently, The Dreamlife of Angels by Erick Zonca. Treasures that need a home. Nurturing that is simply not available in large commercial theaters (e.g., we ran Wim Wenders's The Buena Vista Social Club for 26 weeks). The intermission music in each theater and in the lobby is thoughtfully selected. As well as the turkey, Polish ham, and smoked salmon sandwiches, gingerbread, rugelach and low fat apple muffins. Our main problem is that from time to time we cannot accommodate everybody-- lines and sold out shows, but if you plan ahead there will be a comfortable seat and an excellent movie waiting for you. Please be patient an stay tuned.

Shakespeare in the Park is a theatrical program that stages productions of Shakespearean plays at an open theater in New York City's Central Park. The theater and the productions are managed by the Public Theater and tickets are distributed free of charge on the day of the performance. Originally branded as the New York Shakespeare Festival under the direction of Joseph Papp, the institution was renamed in 2002 as part of a larger reorganization by the Public Theater.HistoryThe festival was originally conceived by director-producer Joseph Papp in 1954. Papp began with a series of Shakespeare workshops, then moved on to free productions on the Lower East Side. Eventually, the plays moved to a lawn in front of Turtle Pond in Central Park. In 1959, parks commissioner Robert Moses demanded that Papp and his company charge a fee for the performances to cover the cost of "grass erosion." A court battle ensued. Papp continued to fight Moses, winning his enduring respect and the quote "well, let's build the bastard a theater." Following this, Moses requested funds from the city for the construction of an amphitheater in the park. In 1961, the Delacorte Theater was built. The first performance held in the theater in 1962 was Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice, starring George C. Scott and James Earl Jones.

For as long as I can remember I have liked to make a mess. That coupled with the fact that my initials are MES makes the name of my company quite appropriate. I have always enjoyed art and its many complexities, but in recent years I went a step further by studying a myriad of different styles and techniques. I set out to put my knowledge to use and through sheer experimentation have developed a brushless style that is unique and quite unorthodox. My procedure involves heating paint to various temperatures and dropping the paint from a variety of different angles and distances. Unlike most artists who use an easel I work with the canvas lying flat on the ground. Thus not only making a giant mess but creating art along the way. When completed, I apply a glossy liquid varnish which enhances the depth of color intensity and protects against discoloring due to humidity, heat and ultraviolet light.

Scott Jacobson Gallery represents a selection of master glass and furniture sculptors who claim distinction in the field with artwork that ranges from pure abstraction to the figurative. These artists are born of the Studio Movement which emerged in the mid 1940’s under the notion that traditional applied arts could be transformed through the integration of concepts and methodologies found in Fine Art. Over the last sixty years, these sculptors have been pioneering an artistic renaissance in glass and furniture which may be experienced by visiting our gallery. The artists we exhibit are present in the collections of such major museums at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Art Institute of Chicago, Smithsonian Institution, Museé des Arts Decoratifs Paris, National Museum of Art Kyoto, and the Victoria and Albert Museum London.
