Hip 96.3 HD-3 is truly the next evolution in Jazz. Although Hip 96.3 HD-3 is primarily a Contemporary (Smooth) Jazz station, we do not confine ourselves to the rules of a format. Sure...we spin tunes from Smooth Jazz staples like Boney James, Brian Culbertson, Rick Braun, Jeff Golub, Down To The Bone and Joyce Cooling, but in fact, we're so much more than Smooth. We determine what we're going to play based on the overall mood of the station, as opposed to abiding by the rules of a format. We spice the sound of our station with Straight-Ahead Jazz pieces from artists like John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Wes Montgomery and Cannonball Adderly. We'll play Acid Jazz from groups like Soundscape UK, Jamiroquai and Heavyshift. How about a little instrumental Funk from Deep Street Soul, Lettuce or The New Mastersounds? We also air unique R&B acts like The Brand New Heavies, Remy Shand, Eli "Paperboy" Reed and Chaz Jankel. Do you dig World Music? We play that too! Hear Jesse Cook play his Flamenco Guitar, or let Native Vibe soothe you with the sounds of African drums. (We also mix in some Light Electronica, Fusion and yes...even some New Orleans Brass...) We also take pride in the fact that we have so many world-class Jazz musicians in our great city. St. Louis is truly a town based in Jazz. With that in mind, it's a huge part of our mission at Hip 96 to feature St. Louis talents throughout our broadcast day. So as you can see, we're so much more than Smooth...we're Hip! Hip 96.3 HD-3.

You’re busy. Like us, you love St. Louis. And you want to know what’s going on: What are the big stories? What new restaurants are opening? What’s everyone talking about? That’s where we come in. We curate, organize, prioritize and promote the news and information we think you’ll want and need — or that you’ve led us to through social media. It comes from publishers big and small and from our own news crew. We make it easy for you to find the best stuff, whether it comes from a major news organization or a local blogger or a tweet. The “best stuff” could be a trending topic that bubbles up from a single tweet. It could be a social movement. Or breaking news, community heroes, amazing pets, cool new eateries and must-see memes. It’s information posted by local schools, businesses or nonprofits. It’s about shining light on a neighborhood news nugget or highlighting a regional talker. We help you know St. Louis. As it happens.

Chronicle: Ferguson is creating a piece of history by compiling photos from eyewitness sources. We will use these photos to generate a book that will then be donated to St. Louis area schools. We hope this will spark discussions amongst the students and teachers of our schools. If you want your photos including please submit them to our website for consideration. We are also organizing photography workshops to teacher and inspire future generations to document their lives and the events effecting them. Those of us in the community know that Ferguson’s story is bigger than recent events. Broader. More hopeful. And the reaction in cities throughout the country and around the world show that there are many people out there whose hearts are with us. Until now, the story has been directed by the media. Our aim with Chronicle: Ferguson is to change that. We are seeking photographs from the community: citizens of Ferguson and St. Louis, participants in protests, anyone who has been affected by the events in our community. Whatever your story is, we want to show it. The Chronicle: Ferguson book will be created from the best photos submitted to our website, chosen by a three-person judging panel along with input from the community. We want to hear from you about the photos that move you or tell a part of the story that you hadn’t seen before. We are excited to receive the official support of the International Photography Hall of Fame and Museum, who has agreed to promote Chronicle: Ferguson on their website and in their Museum shop. This support comes as the Museum mounts its own landmark exhibition, Ferguson and Beyond, illustrating the significance of this one-of-a-kind publication. To learn more about what kinds of photos we’re looking for, and to share your own, please visit our website at: ChronicleFerguson.com
