I recently spent a rainy night at the British Bulldog and within seconds of walking through the door, I realized I should have been hanging here for years. The Bulldog is an honest pub with character and grit, so near to your soul-sucking downtown job that you might walk past it to get to your parking lot. You walk in, see the Fullers ESB on the hand engine, and you know you are in that rare place in Denver where you can get the fine beers poured right, at a proper temperature. And always a great beer special. If the words Arsenal, Tottenham or Blackburn mean anything to you, the Bulldog is the place you need to be. They open at 7:00am so you can catch your favorite team live from across the pond. (If you don’t know what any of this means, skip to the next paragraph) This is English Premier League heaven, but also soccer and rugby of every stripe. If you’re a fan or a player of the Beautiful Game, you’ll be in good company at the British Bulldog. Enough said. When you party in London or any northern European city, you don’t go to 7-11 afterwards and eat a hotdog. You get your jones fixed by having spicy, crazy-good Middle Eastern or Indian food. (7 Heinekens and 2 Spacecakes into my first night in Amsterdam in the late-1980s, I was introduced to this fine culinary tradition. No joke, that Shawarma may have saved my life – and it certainly kept me out of jail.) The Bulldog knows all about it. I’m talking Fried Pickles. Mac & Cheese wedges with spicy mustard. A Chicken Masala that is so good and perfectly seasoned. And Punjabi hot wings that are a little slice of Pakistan. Not to mention British pub staples and burgers too obvious to list – all great here. The next time some doofus suggests going for drinks after work at some pink or purple place on 16th Street, do everyone a favor and tell them you’ve got a better plan. You’re welcome. DADA Art Bar is committed to the advancement of artistic expression within the Denver community as a vital cultural force. It is our goal to support and develop the capacity of local, national, and international artists to reach Denver’s public with a platform for exposure as well as commerce. DADA Art Bar will be a space for the Denver community to experience and engage with the performing, literary, media, and visual arts. Our RiNo location will continuously house arts projects, including concerts, performances, public art, exhibitions, screenings, festivals, workshops, readings and more. The first Friday of each month will mark a new show and an exciting opportunity for artists to share and possibly profit from their work - regardless of professional artistic experience. DADA’s approach to gallerism will be completely democratic. It will serve culture and history at large, as opposed to the exclusivity of the traditional gallery market. So that there is a more equitable and diverse range of artists and artworks represented, we will showcase a full spectrum of backgrounds and identities. All are welcome to become involved - whether by presenting, performing, experiencing, or purchasing works. DADA Art Bar is not only a place to participate in artistic inquiry and creation, but also a place to interact with artists and art enthusiasts, partake in dialogue and discussion about the arts, and enjoy a drink in the beautiful gallery space.
The Curtis Club is an urban gathering place with rustic appeal located in the up and coming Ballpark/upper Rino neighborhood. We feature a seasonally changing, local, and sustainable cuisine, combined with classic beverages and cocktails made with the Curtis twist and a strong dash or two of everything Colorado liquor and beer has to serve. Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom is located at 2637 Welton Street in the old Casino Cabaret whose history dates back to the Cotton Club days of the 1930s when jazz greats such as Duke Ellington, Count Basie, and Benny Goodman took the stage when they toured through Denver. Over the years the Casino Cabaret has hosted such acts as James Brown, BB King, Ray Charles, Ike & Tina Turner, and countless others. Cervantes’ has continued the musical legacy of the building and neighborhood ever since the grand opening in January 2003. The sister venues, which have collectively served the music community for seven years, have played host to over 3,000 live shows including intimate performances with Chris Robinson (Black Crowes), Derek Trucks, Dr. John, Sam Bush, Page McConnell of Phish, Branford Marsalis, and Warren Haynes to name a few. Cervantes’ Information Cervantes’ has two rooms that offer live music simultaneously, Cervantes’ and The Other Side. Each room operates independently of the other but they are connected giving our patrons the ability to venture back and forth between each room. Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom separates itself from other Denver live music venues for a multitude of reasons, but the dual venue feature makes Cervantes’ stand out the most.
