The 32nd Annual Fillmore Jazz Festival Saturday & Sunday, July 2 & 3, 2016 Fillmore Street ~ Jackson to Eddy San Francisco, CA 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM Blending art and soul in one of the country's most unique neighborhoods, the Fillmore Jazz Festival is the largest free Jazz festival on the West Coast, drawing over 100,000 visitors over the Independence Day weekend. From sunup to sundown, visitors can groove to the sounds of live music from multiple stages, browse the offerings of over 12 blocks of fine art and crafts and enjoy gourmet food and beverages. Asian to Cajun, paintings to pottery, old favorites and new directions, the Fillmore Jazz Festival is not to be missed. This year's entertainment continues the tradition of showcasing outstanding artists from across the Jazz spectrum. The Russian Center of San Francisco was founded in 1939 by Russian immigrants as a focal point for the preservation of their rich cultural heritage. Tradition was passionately kept alive through operas, operettas, choirs, grand balls, folk dance ensembles and plays. Generation followed generation, and still the goal remains to preserve and display the warmth and spirit of the Russian culture. As a non-profit cultural organization, the Russian Center annually produces many cultural activities including operas, dance concerts, folk dance classes, social gatherings and lectures. The Russian Festival, held every February, is a three day showcase of food, art, music and dance, and attracts thousands of people from all over the San Francisco Bay Area and the world. The Russian Center is home to Teremok, a State certified Russian pre-school, Congress of Russian Americans, Museum of Russian Culture, Russian Life Daily Newspaper, a library of Russian books, Russian folk dancing classes, rhythmic gymnastic classes .
The Japan Center is a shopping center in the Japantown neighborhood of San Francisco, California. It opened in March 1968 and was originally called the Japanese Cultural and Trade Center. It is composed of three malls: the Kinokuniya Mall, Kintetsu Mall, and Miyako Mall. Anchor tenants include Books Kinokuniya and Sundance Kabuki Cinema.The Fuki-ya restaurant owned by Junko and Richard K. Diran is said to have been the first Robatayaki restaurant in the United States.The architecture of the site, created by Minoru Yamasaki, has been described as "Brutalist slabwork."San Francisco's Peace Pagoda is on the Japan Center site.

Winterland Ballroom was an ice skating rink and 5,400-seat music venue in San Francisco, California. Located at the corner of Post Street and Steiner Street, it was converted to exclusive use as a music venue in 1971 by rock promoter Bill Graham and became a common performance site for many of the most famous rock music artists. Graham later formed a merchandising company he called Winterland which also included concert shirts, memorabilia as well to NHL, NFL, MLB from fan shirts to Super Bowl, World Series and National Basketball Championships.OriginsWinterland was built in 1928 for the then astronomical cost of $1 million and successfully remained operating through the turmoil of the Great Depression in spite of the unheard of costs at the time. Opened on June 29, 1928, it was originally known as the "New Dreamland Auditorium." Sometime in the late 1930s, the name was changed to Winterland. It served as an ice skating rink which was convertible into a seated entertainment venue. Early acts/shows at Winterland included Shipstads and Johnson Ice Follies. In November 1944 it played host to an authorized production (but somewhat americanized) of the Follies Bergere. It also was host to opera, and boxing and tennis matches.
The Jazz Heritage Center is the only permanent cultural and educational complex dedicated to the long history of Jazz in San Francisco and the Fillmore District. The Story of Two Sisters Two Sisters Bar and Books was born on a train, as my sister and I traveled between Krakow and Warsaw. It was inspired by: an English language bookstore in Krakow; a quintessential coffeehouse in Vienna; a neighborhood bar in Paris; the young, urban, do-it-yourself restaurant scene in Brooklyn; and our Northern California roots. We imagined creating a space that housed all of our favorite amusements, and that communicated our feelings for each other – comforting, welcoming, accepting and inspiring. Now, several years later, and with the help and hard work of family and friends, Two Sisters Bar and Books is a reality. Two Sisters is a warm, loving space where there is always time to linger over a classic cocktail or a delightful cup of coffee, nosh on a well-crafted dish, and share our love of all things literary. Our mission is to create a space that nourishes and feeds our community and ourselves – a space where neighbors and strangers alike feel like family. We look forward to meeting you soon.
