Somatic Voicework TM The LoVetri Method is based upon vocal function aimed at helping singers find and use the sounds that they want to sing in a healthy free manner. The work is grounded in physical and aural awareness, physiology and voice science and empowers vocalists of all styles to hear and feel their own sound in a manner that is both satisfying and expressive. It is clear, simple and accessible to beginners and advanced professionals. It is used by hundreds of voice professionals in many related disciplines all over the USA and throughout the world.

Somatic VoiceworkTM is a system of pedagogy organized around vocal function and based upon voice science and health. It promotes self-knowledge, musical intuition, and the artistic uniqueness of each person and voice. It enhances aural and physical perception and kinesthetic awareness and can be adapted to fit each professional’s individual needs. It draws from many diverse disciplines including those of classical vocal pedagogy as well as dance, acting, speech pathology, yoga, and Alexander TechniqueTM. It is particularly useful in CCM* styles but can also be used in classical singing.
About Jeannette LoVetri — creator of Somatic Voicework TM
Jeanette LoVetri is recognized as a leading expert in Contemporary Commercial Music, the term used to describe styles previously referred to as “non-classical.” She has conducted master classes, workshops, and seminars and has been a featured clinician, keynote speaker, panelist and presenter at conferences throughout the USA and internationally in Australia, South America, and Europe. Her students have received Grammy® awards, Tony nominations, and have appeared at major venues all over the world. She is author of numerous vocal pedagogy and voice science peer-reviewed articles and two separate chapters in voice reference books. She has taught at New York University, lectured at Teachers College Columbia University, and is on faculty as a
lecturer at Drexel University College of Medicine in the Department of Head and Neck Surgery since 2008. LoVetri is a member of the American Academy of Teachers of Singing, NATS and NYSTA, where she is also a Past President. She is Artist In Residence at Shenandoah Conservatory, The University of MA Dartmouth and teaches at The University of Michigan Ann Arbor and at City College in New York City. She was Singing Specialist with the Brooklyn Youth Chorus for over 20 years and is currently working in concert with BYC and Carnegie Hall in their outreach program for New York City music education teachers. Her theatrical production company will be mounting “Cheers No Tears”, an Equity approved showcase, in spring of this year. LoVetri continues to perform both classical and CCM* music in the New York area.
Receive your Level I Somatic VoiceworkTM Certification
Level 1 Certification is for anyone who currently works with or desires to work with CCM styles. It presents an organized pedagogical approach based upon vocal function and the principles of voice science and medicine. Level 1 Certification is designed to educate the eyes and ears of voice professionals about the healthy use of the voice in any CCM style. Through live and recorded examples, program participants will develop enhanced perception, sharpened aural discrimination and increased accuracy of the diagnosis of vocal health and production issues.
*Contemporary Commercial Music (CCM): music theater, jazz, gospel, rock, pop, country, folk, rap, R&B, alternative and other styles.

Location
The CCNY campus is conveniently located on Hamilton Heights in Harlem, New York City, near the A and 1 subway lines and our students commute from all five boroughs. The music department is in historic Shepard Hall at the corner of 140th Street and Convent Avenue, one block east of Amsterdam Avenue.
City College is also close to the George Washington Bridge and is an easy commute from New Jersey, as well as Connecticut and Westchester.
