It has been renovated since new ownership and now boasts an amazing state of the art sound system, professional lighting rig, and the best AC in Philly. The venue has developed a fun, loyal, built in crowd at it's infamous DJ parties, and is now expanding into booking live bands before earlier in the evenings. Artists that have played The Barbary include Purity Ring, King Britt, AC Slater, Spank Rock, Beach House, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Ting Tings, Best Coast, Surfer Blood, Japandroids,Titus Andronicus, Abe Vigoda, Vivian Girls, Odd Future, The Queers, Paint it Black, Dillinger Escape Plan, Pissed Jeans, Neon Indian,Pink Skull, Kurt Vile, and more.
The Fire was established in 2001 as a pioneering new rock club in the Northern Liberties section of Philadelphia. Over a decade later, the Fire remains a fixture in a diverse musical neighborhood and a part of one of the most thriving music scenes in the Northeast. The Fire quickly established itself as an artist-friendly venue with a passion for developing talented new artists, both local and touring. Since our inception, we have had the pleasure of hosting artists on their rise to stardom, with artists the likes of Tegan and Sara, My Chemical Romance, OK GO, Maroon 5, Jason Mraz, Iron and Wine, John Legend, Amos Lee, Cold War Kids, Rilo Kiley, Bill Kreutzmann (Grateful Dead), Santigold, Damien Rice, and Dr. Dog having graced our stage. We are proud to host a very diverse calendar of music here at the Fire, with regular shows featuring rock, folk, country, indie rock, punk, hip-hop and everything in between. Most shows we host are 21+, with occasional all-ages and 18+ shows mixed in. Our facilities house FRESH PRODUCE STUDIOS (http://www.freshproducestudios.com), a full service recording studio on-site that is also equipped for live multi-track recording directly from the stage. Our bar selection includes eight draft lines dedicated to local and regional beers, from breweries such as Yards, PBC, and Weyerbacher, with a wealth of local, domestic and imported bottles also available. The Fire strives to create a fun and friendly atmosphere for musicians, music fans, beer lovers, and casual customers alike. Stop in soon, you're only a stranger once!

The Dream Oven is named for the giant steel bread oven [pictured as the profile avatar], which soon became an altar to the sublime peace of dream punk. This oven was found in the basement of its original location on Frankford Avenue The Dream Oven was a dream exhibition that took place in a house, as well as a few other alternative spaces in Northeast Philly (generally the Fishtown and East Kensington neighborhoods of Philadelphia). Started in January 2011, it hosted a vast array of local artists and touring acts from around the world through out the years on through to the end of 2014. Its main dream laborer, Marshall James Kavanaugh, used the space to build a living novel that navigated the ongoing narrative of dream punk. Audience members and performing artists became characters in these collaborative vignettes that explored the collective subconscious of what is “the now”. Creating happenings and cosmic manifestations, the red-blue tie-dyed ambiance got a lot of “This reminds me of the 60s!” comments, but always maintained the argument, “No, this is now! This is our time! This is what our generation looks like! This is how we dream!”. Overtime, the dream space found inside continued to evolve with hundreds of dream catchers hanging from the ceiling beams, incense and herbs burning in the moonlight, TV installations scattered about playing various video art, an art salon up on the walls featuring a vast collection of local works as well as pieces collected during travels, a residency for wanderers and vacationers, and of course live music and poetry read aloud. Over the years thousands of guests walked through its quarters and enjoyed its embers. And though, maybe not all of them were conscious of the magnitude of what they were witnessing, they all walked home feeling the rapture of its good vibes. / / Now, The Dream Oven is over (or at least it has returned back into the underground where it came from), but the dream lives on.
