Columbia University is a private Ivy League research university in Upper Manhattan, New York City. It was established in 1754 as King's College by royal charter of George II of Great Britain. Columbia is the oldest college in the state of New York and the fifth chartered institution of higher learning in the country, making it one of nine colonial colleges founded before the Declaration of Independence. After the American Revolutionary War, King's College briefly became a state entity, and was renamed Columbia College in 1784. A 1787 charter placed the institution under a private board of trustees before it was renamed Columbia University in 1896 when the campus was moved from Madison Avenue to its current location in Morningside Heights occupying 32acres of land. Columbia is one of the fourteen founding members of the Association of American Universities, and was the first school in the United States to grant the M.D. degree.

Virtual Enterprises International (VEI) is the real-world program you wish you had in high school. Students learn about business by doing business, creating and running their own businesses in a national network of 10,000 students across 500 U.S. secondary and post-secondary schools and an international network spanning 40 countries. These VEI "firms" replicate the functions and demands of a real business in structure and practice, and students learn about business, entrepreneurship, finance, economics, and technology through a task-based curriculum that meets national, state, and local standards. Founded in 1996, VEI is based on the European apprenticeship model and continues to grow and gain new supporters from across industry and academic fields. It is cited by various superintendents and business leaders as a critical in-school program and the definitive education model for the 21st Century. DDC has two primary programs from which we organize activities for nearly 1,000 students in grades 7 through 12, and support high school and/or college reentry students up to age 27. Upward Bound (UB) A year-round academic program that provides the supplemental schooling and support needed to prepare nearly 200 first-generation college-bound students for success. Students enroll in the 9th or 10th grade for tutoring, workshops and Saturday classes and continue attending throughout high school. UB students are eligible for the Upward Bound Summer Academy, a residential intensive academic and enrichment program. Talent Search (TS) An early academic awareness, planning and youth development program, that seeks to encourage high school enrollment, completion and post-secondary matriculation, by providing a broad array of services for more than 750 students. TS improves the quality of college advising that first-generation and low-income students receive by providing one-on-one advising sessions, workshops, tutoring, academic classes, SAT preparation, internships, field trips and special events that include career days, science labs, and work site visits. Upward Bound and Talent Search are two programs funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Postsecondary Education. Columbia’s Upward Bound Program was among the first seventeen projects piloted across the country in the summer of 1965. Founded in 1985, the Options Center is comprised of the Options College Counseling Program and the Options Institute. The College Counseling Program and Training Institute work synergistically, with the direct service program serving as a laboratory for best practices, which are then disseminated through the Institute. Directed Knitting is a class, taught by Lisa Hoffman, that guides students through projects from conception to completion. A student can work at their own pace at their own level, or choose a project as a group to work at the same time. Students are encouraged to learn a new skill with each project, becoming more confident and capable through their experiences in the class. This Facebook page has been created to promote the class, to share students completed projects as well as WIP(works in progress), and to collaborate on ideas for new and exciting designs to knit/crochet and techniques to learn. Lisa Hoffman’s designs have been published in Vogue Knitting, Interweave Knits and Knitwear Magazines. She has designed projects for Artyarns, Be Sweet, Blue Sky Alpaca, Long Island Livestock Company, Tahki Stacy Charles and Vijay Fibers. Music Studio Manhattan (MSM) specializes in teaching violin, viola, theory, chamber music, orchestral audition and music appreciation. Under the direction of Ching Chen Juhl, who teaches music at St. Joseph's College as well as a concert violist, the studio uses the Western traditional method with Suzuki philosophy as well as Chinese training theory. Believe in each person can learn music, MSM helps students all ages to achieve their individual goals. The MSM shares ideas, photos and videos. To students: daily practicing, taking weekly private lessons, and attending live concerts are essential. Performing publicly is encouraged strongly. To parents of young children: making notes for your child at lessons is beneficial; helping practicing is very important. Bio: Ching Chen Juhl, a senior music lecturer at St. Joseph's College for 11 years, has performed throughout North and South America, Europe, Hong Kong and China. A graduate of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, she earned a M.M. from Indiana University in viola performance. Her major teachers were Xidi Shen, Kim Kashkashian, and Csaba Erdelyi. A Silver Prize winner at the Giuranna International Viola Competition, Ching has appeared as a soloist with orchestras in US and China. She was a member with the Phoenix Symphony, Pittsburgh Opera and Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra. She has backing up Rod Stewart, touring with Perry Como, and performing in the Broadway Touring Production of My Fair Lady with Richard Chamberlain. Her love and dedication for chamber music led to the founding of the Jade String Trio in 1999. Holding a minor degree in Violin Teaching to Children from the Indiana University, she has taught at Bloomingdale School of Music, JCC Chamber Music Camp, Shanghai Conservatory of Music and Long Island University. Ching Chen Juhl has been teaching private lessons for more than 25 years.

Hands On! A Musical Experience offers age-appropriate music classes for children ages 4 months to 5 years using a specially formatted, instrument-based music curriculum. Our classes introduce children to musical concepts, instruments and activities that enhance other learning such as the acquisition of language, listening skills, auditory discrimination, social understanding and personal discovery. Hands On! classes are designed to include music, story, movement and the exploration of various musical instruments that children can see and touch.

AM4K IS AN EDUCATION CENTER WHERE STUDENTS USE MECHATRONICS TO DESIGN AND BUILD PROJECTS, COMPETE IN COMPETITIONS AND EXPLORE DIFFERENT ENGINEERING FIELDS Mechatronics is a multi-disciplinary engineering field which uses mechanical, electrical, computer and software engineering in order to solve real world problems. Students participating in the program will experience all aspects of being a mechatronics engineer.

In Happy Kids Family Daycare children of all ages are given opportunities to learn through experiences with stories, songs/music, art, science, dramatic play, sensory materials, number and letter activities and the outdoors.
