We provide our services through three signature programs: Student Attire for Education (SAFE) matching grant and online retail store - For more than 10 years, BTS has helped Title I public elementary schools purchase school uniforms for their clothing closets. This is important because when children come to school without the appropriate attire, the school gives them the clothes they need, which they then get to keep. Our exclusive matching grant and online retail store allows Title I public elementary schools to receive a matching grant up to $2,500, doubling their money, to purchase clothes and school supplies when they shop in our unique online store built specifically to meet the needs of public elementary schools. More than 175 schools (56% of all Title I elementary schools in the Valley) currently participate in the SAFE program. Well over 20,000 children have received the clothes they need to be successful in school. Profits from this social enterprise are reinvested into the BTS program to increase the number of matching grants we can award, and, consequently the number of children we can serve. Profits are also used to help build an operating reserve and an endowment fund for BTS. New Clothes, New Beginnings Annual Distribution - Our signature event helps almost 10,000 Arizona children get ready for school. Each July, we convert a gym into a store where over 5,500 children select new clothes, shoes, backpacks, school supplies, and hygiene items. Another 4,000 get backpacks and school supplies through our partnership with the BHHS Legacy Foundation Backpack Buddy program. Each child receives approximately $300 in retail value at the event, and over $1,500,000 of clothing are given to participating children. Stitches of Love - Often referred to as the “heart and soul” of BTS. Its roots go back 40 years when a single seamstress decided to sew back-to-school clothes for the migrant farm workers’ children. We think she would be pleased to know that her idea is now 200+ women strong! Our seamstresses also have a tradition of creating one-of-a-kind items for our annual silent auction. These handmade items are among the favorites each year. Volunteers sew at home and gather once a month for open houses and workshops held at our office. There, they have access to new fabric, notions, yarn and current patterns.

The Sp(a)ce is an anarchist social center at 1205 E Hubbell St, in occupied Phoenix, Arizona. It opened on May Day, 2015 to help provide a safe space for people who feel marginalized and foster resistance to systemic oppression. The Sp(a)ce strengthens ties within the activist community while providing resources and meeting space to organize. It is also a venue for local artists and bands, lending library, community kitchen, neighborhood garden, and radical kid space. The Sp(a)ce has just opened, but it is already alive with zines, screenprinting, music, art, skill sharing, and a giant skate ramp in the backyard. This is the biggest and most ambitious project that we have ever started, but it is only the beginning.
