The Washington University Bariatric Surgery Program offers a full range of surgical options to those meeting the criteria for weight loss surgery: a body mass index (BMI) indicating morbid obesity, appropriate age, attempted weight loss and other factors as determined by the surgeon. The program, offered in conjunction with Barnes-Jewish Hospital, is designated as an American Society for Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery (ASMBS) Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence.
The goals of the Lupus Clinic at WashU are: 1) To provide outstanding interdisciplinary care for patients with lupus. Rheumatology, Renal, and Dermatology are involved to maximize positive outcomes for our patients. 2) To perform clinical trials with the latest potential treatment for lupus. 3) To conduct state-of-the-art lupus research. This is done in part through collection of biologic samples from patients with lupus for translational studies by investigators at WashU. On the third Thursday of every month, the Washington University Emergency Medicine attending physicians, faculty, residents, fellows, nurses and medical students meet at a local restaurant for journal club. During these three hour meetings the group, led by the Journal Club Director, critically analyze recent literature using Evidence Based Medicine principles: patient preferences, clinician expertise, and scientific findings each weighted equally.
