For 75 years, Catholic Charities has been helping those most in need in San Antonio and the surrounding areas. As the official social service arm of the Catholic Church, we serve over 55,000 people a year – the hungry, the homeless, the desperate, and those needing help facing life’s daily challenges. With over 25 programs, we serve people of all faiths and all walks of life, from those not yet born to those at the end of life’s journey. Called to live out the gospel mandate to “love thy neighbor,” with a presence in more than 19 counties, we serve those in need without regard to race, creed, or nationality. Within the past few years Catholic Charities has expanded its services to the community by bringing other organizations under its umbrella, including Senior Community Services in 1999, Catholic Counseling & Consultation Center and Guadalupe Home in 2001, San Antonio Birth Doulas in 2005, and Guadalupe Community Center in 2006.
What We Do Transplants for Children (TFC) is the only agency of its kind and located in San Antonio, Texas. TFC empowers families to MASTER LIFELONG CHALLENGES of pediatric transplantation. TFC is dedicated to assisting young organ and bone marrow transplant recipients and their families in effectively coping with the emotional, financial, and social challenges that arise before, during, and after transplantation. For a child and his or her family, a transplant can bring the joyous realization of new life. The transplant process, however, can also present overwhelming emotional and financial challenges which most families are simply not prepared to face. TFC exists to help families master those challenges. Our organization was established to “be there” when families need somewhere to turn for help.

The San Antonio Tennis Association is a community tennis association of the USTA, United States Tennis Association-Texas Section, founded in 1946, and is a non-profit organization supporting a growing tennis community of more than 13,000 adults, children and seniors that works year round to promote and develop the growth of tennis.
Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) in youth is not a rare occurrence. SCA is the leading cause of non-traumatic death in youth, happening without warning and proving fatal in 92% of cases. Most heart conditions that lead to SCA can be easily detected with a heart screening. Medical history and physical exam are not enough. Active teens appear healthy so reported symptoms are often overlooked by doctors. With no symptoms, doctors deem testing unnecessary, making these tests expensive and not covered by medical insurance. As a result, serious heart conditions go undetected and young people die unnecessarily. We know that a thoughtful use of a few simple tests can identify many of the students at risk of SCA and get them the treatment they need. The consequence of not performing these screens is to leave at-risk youth to their own fate, an action that is not acceptable to AugustHeart.

Through a strategic plan adopted in 2006, the City of San Antonio committed to becoming a no-kill community for companion animals. No-kill means any healthy, treatable, or adoptable pet that ends up at the city shelter will not be put down simply because there is no space for them. Established in 2007, Talk About It! serves as the driving force to bring people together in an effort to achieve no-kill in San Antonio. We help all animal welfare organizations and groups achieve their goals to increase pet adoptions, help make spay/neuter clinics more available and affordable, and create public awareness about overall caring for our pets. We want to make San Antonio a happy and safe place for both pets and people. -- Care. Adopt. Neuter.
Any person interested in the Guardians of the Children is invited to attend our open meetings that are held on the third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. The location is at Sam's Burger Joint located at 330 East Grayson in San Antonio, 78215. Our meetings are in the building behind the restaurant that they use as a music venue. To become a member, a person must pass 2 background checks. To be a full patched member, a person must have access to a motorcycle and attend mandatory events. People who cannot fulfill the latter requirements can be a support member without voting privileges. Come on out and see what we are all about!!
Alamo Area Aikikai began as a high school club called Alamo Heights Aikido in 2001. As demand grew for a more public presence, we formed this organization as a means to benefit a larger population. Uniting our community-Dedicated volunteers are engaged in fund development and strategic direction for the San Antonio Area African American Community Fund. The fund hosts an annual fundraising event, Renaissance with the Stars, a ballroom dance competition. Supporting nonprofits with grants Through grants, the fund supports nonprofit organizations that serve African Americans in arts/culture, community development, education, health and social/human services. Nonprofit organizations can apply for a grant from the fund on an annual basis.

The mission of ULI, the Urban Land Institute, is to provide leadership in the responsible use of land and in creating and sustaining thriving communities worldwide. ULI is composed of over 40,000 members worldwide. Our members are: developers, investors, brokers, advisers, architects, attorneys, engineers, planners, and public officials. ULI San Antonio is a District Council of the Urban Land Institute. District Councils are ULI at the local level, facilitating the exchange of ideas and the transmission of ULI best practices. ULI San Antonio has over 320 members who convene at luncheons, educational programs, project tours and other events to share experiences and learn from each other.
Lemonade Day, held on the first Sunday in May each year in cities acreoss America, is a fun, entrepreneurial and experiential learning program that teaches youth not only how to start their own business by operating a lemonade stand, but fundamental lessons about life, success and themselves. Schools, community groups and businesses all over the nation get involved to make this all happen. In addition to increasing the overall quantity of food donations to the San Antonio Food Bank, we highly anticipate increased awareness in the community and SAC students in particular. Together with the Food Bank and Desks 2 Tables, the L&M Bookstore will be offering students incentives to help their community (through textbook discounts in return for donating food).
