It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1968.John Quincy Adams considered the house "the most magnificent and elegant private mansion that I have ever seen on this continent."HistoryThe building was designed by John Brown's brother Joseph, an amateur architect, who had also designed the First Baptist Church in America. The house took two years to build, 1786-88.Notable guests during this time include George Washington, who is reported to have visited for tea.The house was sold in 1901 to the prominent Rhode Island industrialist and banker Marsden J. Perry. Under Marsden's supervision, the extension was renovated to add in modern bathrooms and central heating systems. It was purchased by John Nicholas Brown in 1936.In 1942, the Brown family donated the house to the Rhode Island Historical Society for preservation. The house was restored to its original colonial decor. The museum now contains many original furniture pieces provided by the Brown family estate.

The Governor Henry Lippitt House is a historic house museum at 199 Hope Street on the East Side of Providence, Rhode Island. A National Historic Landmark, it is one of the finest Italianate mansion houses in the state, and considered one of the best-preserved examples of Victorian-era houses in the US. It is notable for its association with Henry Lippitt (1818–91), a wealthy textile magnate who was the 33rd Governor of Rhode Island. The house is owned by Preserve Rhode Island, and is open to the public for tours seasonally or by appointment.DescriptionThe Lippitt House is a large three-story brick structure, resting on a brownstone foundation, and topped by a roof that is hipped except for a projecting gable at the front elevation. A two-story wing projects to the rear of the house. The corners of the building are quoined in brownstone, and there are brownstone belt courses between the first and second floors. The main entry is sheltered by a semicircular porch supported by fluted and cabled Corinthian columns. The porch has an elaborately decorated roof line, as does the main roof and the porte cochere on the north side. The interior is in a remarkable state of preservation. The Governor Stephen Hopkins House is a museum and National Historic Landmark at 15 Hopkins Street in Providence, Rhode Island. The house was the home of Stephen Hopkins, a governor of Rhode Island and signatory of the Declaration of Independence.DescriptionThe Stephen Hopkins House is an L-shaped 2-1/2 story wood-frame structure, whose main block was built in 1742-43 for Stephen Hopkins, with an attached two-story ell whose first floor dates to 1707. The main block is four bays wide and two deep, with the main entrance in the second bay from the left. This entry is a 20th-century alteration; the original main entrance was through a doorway on the west side of the ell.The interior of the main block has the main parlor on the right, and Governor Hopkins' study on the left, flanking a central hallway with stair. Behind the parlor is a keeping room, with a small bedchamber behind the study. There are five bedrooms on the second floor, two with fireplaces. The downstairs fireplace mantels are paneled, with that in the parlor slightly more elaborate.HistoryThe 1707 house was purchased by Stephen Hopkins in 1742 and enlarged into its present size. It served as his home until his death in 1785. During these years he served in the colonial assembly, as a justice (first associate, then chief) of the colonial high court, and as colonial governor of the province from 1755 to 1757. The house is the only significant structure associated with Hopkins' life.In the late 1920s the house was carefully restored by Norman Isham. The house is now owned and managed by the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, and is a museum open to the public.

The Brown University Oncology Research Group (BrUOG) was created in 1994 to coordinate clinical cancer research for Brown’s affiliated hospitals and Alpert Medical School faculty. BrUOG’s main mission is to improve cancer care through the implementation of innovative, multidisciplinary cancer clinical trials. BrUOG provides the infrastructure for the efficient development and implementation of these trials, which are created by Brown University faculty. Before BrUOG was founded, there was no unifying body for such research and no infrastructure through which Brown’s myriad scientists and physicians could share, advance, and garner support for their ideas on the treatment of cancer. The founding hospitals of BrUOG are Rhode Island Hospital, The Miriam Hospital, Roger Williams Medical Center, Memorial Hospital, and Women & Infants Hospital, which administer care to the majority of trial patients today. BrUOG, however, is the engine: its administrators and physicians provide support for the initial study concept and validation of trial design, and are responsible for trial administration, safety monitoring, data analysis, and the presentation and publication of findings. The trials sponsored by BrUOG investigate novel, cutting-edge applications of chemotherapy, biologic agents and other cancer treatments. They study anticancer agents in early development, and as such are Phase I trials (which determine the optimally tolerated dose of an anticancer treatment regimen) or Phase II trials (which assesses the potential therapeutic effectiveness). These trials provide essential preliminary data for definitive Phase III trials, often conducted under the auspices of the National Cancer Institute. Our trials are unique because they are investigator-initiated—conceptualized by practicing physicians, not by pharmaceutical companies. As such, these trials represent an incredibly important sector of cancer research. Because medical, radiation and surgical oncologists are deeply familiar with both the latest research and stark realities of cancer, they are an unrivaled source of ideas for novel approaches to treatments.

The RICCELFF builds upon the Rhode Island Child Care Facilities Fund (RICCFF), an innovative public- private partnership that was formed in 2001 with a dedication to expanding access to quality child care in low-income communities throughout Rhode Island. Since launching in 2001, the RICCFF has provided nearly 7 million in funding and worked with over 200 organizations state-wide in an effort to improve the quality and capacity of physical space in our state’s child care facilities. In 2014, the RICCFF conducted an early learning facility needs assessment, the first of its kind in Rhode Island. This study, funded by the Rhode Island Department of Education identified a number of priority issues in Rhode Island early learning facilities and created the impetus for the formation of the Rhode Island Early Learning Facilities Project. The Rhode Island Early Learning Project is funded through the state’s Race to the Top-Early Learning Challenge grant and is part of EXCEED, the collective commitment of Rhode Island’s early learning community to ensure that all young children soar. It extends the work of the RICCFF to include a broader base of early learning facilities such as public schools and state funded pre-k classrooms. Priorities of this project focus on addressing major health and safety issues in facilities as well as supporting early learning centers that are experiencing physical space challenges with the new, 2013, child care licensing regulations.

The Tomorrow Fund was founded in 1985 to ease the traumatic financial and emotional effects of childhood cancer. Our founders - a group that included doctors, child life specialists, and parents of children with cancer - recognized that, in addition to the very best medical care, children with cancer and their families need financial and emotional assistance to cope with the overwhelming challenges of this insidious disease. At the time of our founding, children with cancer at Rhode Island Hospital shared space with adult oncology patients. The dream of having a local oncology clinic dedicated solely to the treatment of children became a reality with the opening of The Tomorrow Fund Clinic at Hasbro Children's Hospital in 1995. Led by Dr. Cindyt Schwartz, Director of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, the Clinic is widely recognized for its outstanding medical treatment and its compassionate approach to children and their families. Today, more than 90% of children with cancer in Rhode Island, nearby Massachusetts, and Connecticut are treated in The Tomorrow Fund Clinic. At The Tomorrow Fund, we fulfill our mission through three major programs: • Direct financial and emotional assistance to families and children in treatment • Support for The Tomorrow Fund Clinic • Outreach to inform the community about the effects of childhood cancer There is a child with cancer in every city and town in RI and nearby MA who is being helped by The Tomorrow Fund.
