Welcome to Church Street School for Music and Art! Since 1990, we have been dedicated to arts education for students of all ages and levels of ability. As the only not-for-profit school for the arts in Lower Manhattan, we extend an understanding and love of the arts to a community that is economically, socially and culturally diverse. Over the years Church Street School has truly become a community center: a safe place where parents share art experiences with their children, where groups of kids play in bands together, where audiences cheer on the performances of their neighbors, where those with the challenge of disabilities find a place to shine. The teachers at Church Street School are highly trained and experienced in their art, educational approaches, and belief in the accessibility of the arts to all. A group of acclaimed professionals from around the world, we leave space in our approaches to learn from our students too. With humble beginnings in a second floor loft, and three expansions in just over ten years, Church Street School is building a pre-eminent home for the arts, with sufficient programming and performance space to truly serve the communities of Lower Manhattan and beyond. We are growing our most popular programs, and evolving into areas of new technologies and multimedia integrations. This is an exciting time of growth, both physically and programmatically.

The Art Institute of New York City – is one of The Art Institutes, a system of over 44 education institutions throughout North America, providing education in design, media arts, and fashion. When we established Make-up Designory (MUD) in 1997, we shared a desire to create a place for higher learning in the field of make-up education. We wanted to create a place that supported the needs of the makeup industry. We also wanted to put our students first. MUD began in a two-classroom, 800 square-foot location in Toluca Lake, California. We started out offering courses in beauty make-up, character make-up and special make-up effects. After 3 years, we moved to cozy downtown Burbank and opened up a 5-classroom school complete with administrative offices, student store and photography studio. Today the school and store are still located in the same place, but we have moved the administrative offices next door to make room for 3 additional classrooms, a library and student lounge. We still offer courses in beauty, character and special make-up effects, and have added courses in hairstyling, airbrushing, portfolio development, some for non-professionals too! We also have a 10,000 square foot warehouse and distribution center in Valencia, CA that also houses our Corporate Headquarters. Not only did we expand locally, we expanded nationally. In 2005 we opened our East Coast branch in New York City. Our 4 classroom, office, and store loft space on a second floor in SoHo eventually grew to be 6 classrooms, separate offices plus a ground-level access retail space. 9 years later, we were again in need of even more space so we moved the school to the Financial District. Our current location occupies the entire 15th floor of the historic, 21- story American Express building and offers 9, classrooms, administrative offices, and a student store. And there’s more still to come! MUD is constantly expanding its reach with partner schools and MUD STUDIO locations from Asia to Europe and San Diego, CA to Giant Springs, MT. We are bringing our vision of excellence in make-up education to the world! Have we come a long way since Toluca Lake? Sure. Yet our founding philosophy still guides everything we do.

The New York Film Academy’s 3D Animation School offers a set of top-notch programs that provide comprehensive training in 3D using Autodesk's Oscar Winning software, Maya, the industry standard for animation. Students in the Academy's 3D Animation School get the opportunity to learn the technical and artistic tools required to master 3D animation. Whether students are interested in learning the basics of the medium through our 3-Week and 4-Week Workshops or receiving more comprehensive training through our One-Year Conservatory and Bachelor of Fine Arts Programs, the 3D Animation School provides students with the background needed to pursue animation across a wide variety of career paths. After completing the workshop or program, they may choose to become independent animators or to pursue a career in the film, gaming, interactive or commercial industries. Tim specializes in concept design, animatics, and storyboarding. Gavin Guerra VFX Supervisor Gavin Guerra has spent 23 years creating award winning visual entertainment. During that time he has worked in many formats (Film, TV, Theater, Interactive) on many fantastic projects (X2- Xmen United, Vertical Limit, Radio City Music Hall’s Christmas Spectacular, as well as countless commercials and show opens). Gavin currently owns and operates Vram FX studios in Astoria, NY. Boaz Livny Advanced Lighting and Shaders CG / VFX Supervisor at a number of post-production companies in the New York City area including Elementary and Recom Farmhouse. Boaz also has his own company “Vision Animations” providing production services, consultancy and in-house training for studios in the New York area and globally. Guno Park Drawing and Anatomy Instructor Guno Park is an artist living and working in Brooklyn, NY. Originally from Seoul, Korea, he grew up in Toronto, Canada. After receiving his MFA from the New York Academy of Art in 2011, he has been drawing, exhibiting, illustrating and teaching drawing in New York City. Guno has a passion for drawing and a deep interest in social realism. His work hangs in many private collections and has been widely published. Santosh Sailesh Dynamics and Scripting Santosh is that rare and valuable combination of an advanced programmer with an artistic flare. Born and raised in India, he came to the U.S. to put his skills as a programmer to use while pursuing his passion for visual effects. After graduating with a masters degree in digital imaging, Santosh has been in constant demand as a technical director in the NY market. Specializing in physical simulations (particles, fluids, cloth, etc.), Santosh is eager to tackle problems that most TD's shudder at. Santosh has started giving back to the VFX community by teaching courses in scripting and technical direction at renowned schools in and around NYC.He is currently the Vice President at the NY based boutique Vram FX whose clients include AT&T; Avon; McDonald's; Panasonic; Sirius XM Radio Inc.; Hasbro; Nike; Nickelodeon; MTV; Frito Lay; Ford; Revlon; Showtime. Juniko Moody Co-Chair of Animation Juniko was a production 3D lighting/compositor for Disney Feature Animation and Sony Imageworks. She was also a 2D compositor for Kodak Cinesite and Warner Digital. Juniko transitioned into teaching through corporate 2D and 3D digital training for Dreamworks Feature Animation and other training facilities. Juniko holds a BA from USC Cinema and an MA from CSULA in Industrial Technology with an emphasis in instruction and has taught 3D animation, digital modeling, lighting, and adult instructional presentations/course writing, and was instrumental in developing curricula at several institutions before joining the New York Film Academy. Mark Sawicki Co-Chair of Animation Mark is a veteran visual effects cameraman with a large body of work, including The Terminator, X-Men and The Dark Knight Rises. In addition to having taught for many years, Mark is the author of “Animating with Stop Motion Pro” and “Filming the Fantastic” first and second edition, both published by Focal Press. Every summer, students lose as much as 2 ½ to 3 ½ months of what they learned the year before. Come September, teachers spend up to 6 weeks re-teaching the materials that students have forgotten. This “summer slide” disproportionately affects children living in low-income neighborhoods, and research has shown that ⅔ of the academic achievement gap can be attributed to unequal access to summer learning opportunities. The traditional summer school model only aims to serves students who are already failing, leaving behind the millions more that still need help. Consequently, students perceive summer school as a punishment, creating an environment where students are not excited to learn and rarely even show up. Simply put: it is broken.
