Annual Celebration of El Grito at this year's new location: Moda Center Plaza! www.elgritonw.com
The ultimate day for girlfriends, sisters, moms, bffs...over 300 vendors (handbags, jewelry, makeovers, food, Free gift bags) join us as an attendee or exhibit your products or services with us! All proceeds go towards our "Building Hope" campaign. “Building Hope Campaign” The Portland Women's Expo Foundation’s goal is to raise $1 million dollars by 2015, as we are in the developmental stages for purchasing a property to build a Resource & Employment Training Center For Women. The Center will provide emergency shelter, domestic violence, and substance abuse services. It will also create employment partnerships and provide targeted skills training to put women back to work. Why? Every night in Portland, there are 500 homeless families with children. The emergency shelters in Portland are filled to overflow. The number of families with children experiencing homelessness in Multnomah County has increased by 35 percent over the last two years, according to data from Portland's Street Count and Multnomah County's One Night Shelter Count. The City and County did not create many of the factors driving families from their homes. Instead, local governments are facing the fallout from national issues including nearly 10 percent unemployment, high numbers of homeless, a national health care crisis, and waves of foreclosures. The facility that we are fundraising to build will add to the number of emergency beds in the metro area. In addition, the advocacy services that we provide (domestic violence, substance abuse, unemployment) are preventative and transitional in nature. In other words, we can help prevent homelessness or help guide a person to a better situation.
