The Church of St. Leo is a former Roman Catholic parish church under the authority of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York, located at 11 East 28th Street, between Fifth and Madison Avenues in Manhattan, New York City.HistoryThe parish was established in 1880 to relieve the overcrowded St. Stephen's parish by the Rev. Thomas J. Ducey, its first rector, who continued there until his death in 1909. It was dedicated to St. Leo, patron saint of Pope Leo XIII, the reigning pontiff at the time. The Archbishop of New York at the time was John Cardinal McCloskey, the first American-born Cardinal, who was eligible to take part in the conclave that elected Leo pope (but did not because of travel delays). The parish was marked by its broad humanitarian spirit. It had a separate mortuary chapel at 9 East 28th Street for people of any faith who had died while temporarily being in the city, such as hotel guests. The bodies could remain there until being claimed for a proper funereal arrangement, or St. Leo's clergy would handle the service without remuneration. The parish was suppressed to become a mission of the former St. Stephen's Church. Some sources say the suppression took place in 1908; others that it occurred in 1909, following Fr. Ducey's death. The church building was given to the Sisters of Mary Reparatrix as a convent and retreat house following their expulsion from France in 1910, and the old rectory was turned into a convent inhabited in 1914 by thirteen professed nuns, three lay sisters and a postulant.
At Grace Church School, students take part in a full range of programs including music, art, computer, laboratory science, instruction in French, Spanish and Latin, physical education, dance, and drama, in addition to the traditional curriculum. The City and Country School is a progressive independent pre-school and elementary school for children aged 2–12 that is located in the Greenwich Village section of New York City.FoundingCity and Country School was founded by Caroline Pratt in 1914. Originally named the Play School, it occupied a three-room apartment at the corner of 4th and 12th Streets. Soon after, Lucy Sprague Mitchell joined Pratt, and offered financial and teaching support that allowed for larger quarters on MacDougal Alley.Mitchell and colleague Harriet Johnson founded the Bureau of Educational Experiments (BEE) with the purpose of documenting the developmental and learning processes of children in order to gain accurate information about the methods of progressive schools and the abilities and needs of children. The laboratory schools for BEE observation were a nursery school, overseen by Johnson, and the Play School (its name was changed to City and Country School in 1921). As the school grew, City and Country moved to buildings purchased by Mitchell, which were later sold to the school when the BEE and C&C formally parted ways, on West 12th and 13th Streets, where it remains today.History"A goodly floor space, basic materials for play, and many children using them together" were the elements of a new kind of democratic education for children that guided Caroline Pratt to begin the City and Country School in 1914. Experiences teaching in a small independent school and two settlement houses had left Pratt questioning the value of an education in which "none of these children made any use of what they had learned." In contrast to her frustration was Pratt's observation of the meaningful world created by the young child of a friend while constructing a miniature railroad on the floor of his room. This child was not only enjoying himself, but he was also making sense of the world around him. Pratt discovered for herself the educational value of play.
This is for parents of children who are currently at ps 51 Manhattan up on 91th street.

Welcome to the Official Page for the High School of Fashion Industries (HSFI). This page will serve as a resource to all those interested in all that the high school is doing. The High School of Fashion Industries is located in the heart of Manhattan's Chelsea district. Serving grades 9 through 12, HSFI is a public school part of New York City's Department of Education. HSFI has career and technical education programs related to fashion, art, and merchandising. Our students are an extremely talented group and are often afforded several opportunities to exercise their talents through various partnerships and programs at HSFI. ------------------------------------------------- Below you'll find a little history regarding the High School of Fashion Industries. "The High School of Fashion Industries history begins in 1926. A garment center loft on West 31 Street, its initial purpose was to train a work force for the many different trades of the fashion industries. Most of the students were immigrants or children of immigrants who were working toward better lives in a new country. As part of a Works Progress Administration (WPA) project construction of a new school began in 1938. In 1941 Central Needle Trades High School opened its doors. The curriculum was almost entirely vocational focusing on sewing, machine work and fashion design. The school had many ties to the labor movement in New York as illustrated in the landmark murals in the auditorium [see groups images]. As the fashion industry of New York changed so did the high school. In 1956 the name was changed to the High School of Fashion Industries and new majors were added." ------------------------------------------------- Today the high school stands as a testament to the power of career and technical education. HSFI has hosted educators from Denmark, Austria, Turkey, and Japan in addition to many others from several states within the US. Publications such as the New York Times and Women's Wear Daily have taken notice of our faculty and student work. In closing here is a statement made about the high school after a visit by representatives of the National Center for Research in Vocational Education: 'Students we observed in classes and spoke with in groups were self-confident and motivated. They expressed great pride in their school, respect and admiration for their teachers, ad a strong sense of commitment to their education. They clearly felt a sense of connection to the school and the school family. Students who plan to pursue careers related to the occupational focus of the school felt they were receiving a first rate education for these pursuits; students who planned on careers unrelated to the specific focus felt they were receiving strong academic preparation as well as valuable work skills… The teachers and administration we observed and met were dedicated and innovative…Students told us of teachers working with them before school, after school and on lunch hours….' This organization, associated with the University of California and the U.S. Department of Education, was able to witness some of the amazing things that are happening at HSFI. We invite you to find out more about what this amazing institution is doing for its students!

Founded in 1947, the SVA is the largest arts school in the US. Over 5,000 students pass through its Midtown Manhattan campus each year, 280 of them as undergraduates in the computer art program. The school has a strong relationship with local visual effects facilities – notably Framestore, which it supplies with many of its junior staff – but alumni also include artists at Pixar and Blue Sky Studios, and Industrial Light & Magic's Johnny Han, CG Supervisor on "Pacific Rim.” Students are taught on a range of industry-standard software packages, including Maya and Nuke, and have access to a dedicated render farm consisting of 300 dual-processor machines. "Everything we do is focused on giving our students familiarity with the commercial environment," says SVA Chair John McIntosh. "We're big advocates of guerilla film-making, but our students are ultimately going to work in production, so we felt obliged to go with a commercial solution – and one that was as widely used as possible."

The School of Apostles and Prophets is dedicated to bringing integrity to the Prophetic and Apostolic ministry. This is accomplished by a syllabus that teaches not only spiritual giftings, but also brings emphasis to maturity and character building. These courses are conducted with the aim of training and equipping both members and visitors who are either called to fivefold ministry or simply want to understand the function of these five ministries; (Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors, Teachers) in the local church. It is our conviction that the Church is “built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ being the chief cornerstone” (Eph.2:20) Local churches that have an active apostolic and prophetic ministry incorporated in their leadership structure, tend to be more founded in their faith and more able to mature and mentor others into deeper faith and growth. Pastors, Teachers and Evangelists are just as important to the development of the saints, but there has been an abundant emphasis and supply of these ministries for decades. The Holy Spirit is now revisiting the Church and re-vitalizing the five headship ministries. He is demolishing our stereotyping of their function and placement, and rebuilding all five offices based on better things. The School of Apostles and Prophets will bring great understanding to you as a student or as a seeker in this regard.
