William & Mary Hall is a building used for athletic events for The College of William & Mary Tribe sports teams in Williamsburg, Virginia. Kaplan Arena is the 8,600-seat multi-purpose arena within the Hall. When the extra bleachers are pulled out, however, it seats up to 11,300. The arena's floor measures almost 24000sqft.The Hall's lower level houses the coaching and staff offices for the school's athletic department. William & Mary Hall also hosts a seminar room, medical suite, and a gymnastics workout area. Completed in 17 months by the Southeastern Construction Company of Charlotte, North Carolina, the building cost $5.3 million but was financed by state revenue bonds.HistoryIts name was granted in 2005 as part of a publicized funding effort by then-college president Gene Nichol. Between the 1920s and 1970s, the William & Mary Indians played basketball in Blow Gym, which now houses the registrar, bursar, and other university offices. It hosted the last ECAC South men's basketball tournament in 1985 (the conference added more championships in the 1985–86 school year and was renamed the CAA). Retired jersey banners depicting some of W&M's own basketball greats hang from the rafters of Kaplan Arena. The arena opened in 1971 and is home to the Tribe basketball, gymnastics and volleyball teams.

The Raymond A. Mason School of Business is the business school at the College of William & Mary in Virginia. The school, named after alumnus and founder of Legg Mason, Raymond A. "Chip" Mason, in 2005, was ranked in the top 20 MBA programs in 2007 and the top 10 undergraduate programs among public universities. The school offers Full-time MBA, Part-time MBA, Executive MBA, Masters in Accounting and Undergraduate Business Degrees.HistoryIn 1919, William & Mary President Julian A.C. Chandler established the Department of Business while expanding the College's sphere of services. The study of business grew in popularity over the 20th Century, with substantial growth after the end of World War II.The College established the Master of Business Administration (MBA) Program in 1966. Students are immersed in real business situations throughout the undergraduate and graduate business education programs. William & Mary boasts one of the oldest and most reputable theatre programs in the United States. In 1702, a group of our students presented a "pastoral colloquy" in Latin for the Royal Governor, the first recorded instance of a theatrical performance in America. The first theatre in America was constructed in Williamsburg in 1716, and in 1736 William and Mary students presented America's first known college production of a play, Addison's Cato. In 1926 formal organization of the William & Mary Theatre and its academic classes was begun under the guidance of Miss Althea Hunt, a remarkable director-teacher who led the theatre from 1926 to 1961 and established a tradition of excellence. Theatre productions were first presented by the Dramatic Club and Theta Alpha Phi from 1926 to 1929 and then through the William and Mary Players from 1930 to 1937. Theatre classes were offered through the English Department until 1935 when the Fine Arts Department was formed. Designer Leslie Cheek, Jr. arrived at that time and was a driving force in making theatre visible on campus as chair of Fine Arts from 1937 to 1939. Howard Scammon '34 also joined the theatre faculty as a designer, followed by Al Haak '52 (Technical Director from 1947 to 1977) and Roger Sherman '55 (Lighting Designer from 1946 to 1958 and 1966 to 1977; Executive Vice-President of the Jamestown Corporation, producer of The Common Glory from 1958 to 1970 ). Many faculty and students of William & Mary Theatre were active in Paul Green's outdoor drama, The Common Glory, which ran from 1947 to 1976 at the Lake Matoaka Amphitheatre. In 1963 the Department of Theatre and Speech was formed. The next generation of professors in Theatre and Speech included Louis Catron who taught playwriting and direction from 1966 to 2002 and founded Premiere Theatre and Jerry Bledsoe (designer from 1971 to 2004) who founded the Virginia Shakespeare Festival in 1977. In 1999 the Dance Program joined the department to create Theatre, Speech, & Dance. Under the leadership of the current faculty and staff, the Department has continued to expand its course offerings in performance, design, theory, and technical production and to present exciting and challenging theatrical productions. Many alumni have gone on to professional careers including Linda Lavin '59, Scott Glenn '63, Glenn Close '74. Mark Stanley '78, and Bill Lawrence '90.
The Department of English is dedicated to promoting an understanding and appreciation of the ways in which men and women have represented their worlds, real or imagined, in literature. As a lively community of teaching scholars, we are committed to engaging our students in the richness and variety of English poetry, drama and prose fiction, from the canon of traditional English literature to marginalized, avant-garde and experimental literary works. The diversity of our program encourages students to explore the aesthetic, rhetorical, historical, philosophical, cultural and ideological dimensions of English literature, to discover the power of literary art. The English department is strongly committed to interdisciplinary study, and many of our students take courses in Film Studies, Literary and Cultural Studies, Women's Studies, Africana Studies and American Studies. Linguists in the department offer courses in the history, structure and social bases of language. The department also includes an extensive and rewarding program in creative and expository writing. Our thriving Writer in Residence program and Writers Series bring distinguished poets, playwrights and fiction-writers to campus each year to teach and study with us.
Alpha Zeta Kappa Alpha was chartered at the college in 1890 making it the third social fraternity chartered at the college and the oldest one that currently has a chapter. We are a very active chapter academically and extracurricularly. Alpha Zeta is founded on strong brotherhood and our alumni have found success wherever they go. The study of philosophy lies deep in William & Mary's roots. The College's charter in 1693 called for a “perpetual College of Divinity, Philosophy, Languages, and other good Arts and Sciences” to be founded in the Virginia Colony. Over three centuries after the College's inception, the importance of an education in philosophy has only increased. The hard questions just seem to get harder.
Located in historic Williamsburg, VA, William & Mary’s Master of Public Policy degree is a 2-year residential cohort model with many opportunities for customization along with its general quantitatively-focused curriculum. Students choose a track of core and elective courses toward either domestic policy, i.e. Public Policy Analysis, or International Development and Policy. Outside of its strong academics, the focus of the program is ‘policy in practice’ whereby students participate in collaborative, real-world projects, off-campus programming such as Policy Dialogues, and a required 10-week internship between the two academic years. The admissions deadline in any given year is January 15th for priority financial assistance consideration. Internship stipends and graduate assistantships are also available.

The department consists of thirty members on the instructional faculty, together with approximately fifteen additional physicists in purely research positions. Our undergraduate program offers a major and minor. Through our graduate program, students pursue a Ph.D. degree. We have an active summer REU program. Research areas in the department include atomic, molecular, and optical physics, computational physics, condensed matter physics, nuclear and hadronic physics, high energy physics, and plasma and non-linear physics. Related research areas include accelerator physics (in cooperation with Jefferson Lab) and material characterization (in cooperation with NASA-Langley Research Center). The department also has strong links with the interdisciplinary Applied Science Department and Computational Science Cluster.
