It offers an integrated baccalaureate education with preclinical medical education and has a twofold mission: to expand access to medical careers among inner-city youths, particularly among underrepresented minorities, and to encourage the pursuit of primary care specialties among its graduates. Upon successful completion of the first 5 years of study, medical students will then complete their clinical training at St. Barnabas Hospital, culminating in their medical degree.Sophie Davis was one of the first - and last - baccalaureate degree-granting physician assistant programs in the country. Beginning in fall 2016, the school will transition that program into a 28-month master's of science program in physician assistant studies.

Given the omnipresence of Economics – community, city, national and international – in everyday headlines, it is no wonder that this field is an increasingly popular one among students at The City College of New York. As we’ve been dramatically reminded in recent years, the economic winds can shift quickly and affect individuals in every aspect of their sustenance, housing, education, employment and families – for the present and the future. While the study of Economics is firmly rooted in monetary systems and policy, budgets and governmental positions, it can serve as the basis for a range of majors or minors, as well as a solid foundation for graduate studies and careers in many industries and businesses.

Founded at City College in 1973, The Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education was founded to recruit underrepresented minorities into medicine, increase medical services in historically underserved areas, and increase the availability of primary care physicians. We offer two unique and challenging programs leading to careers in medicine: Our innovative five-year BS-MD Program integrates undergraduate education with the first two years of medical school. Students graduate with a BS degree from City College and move on to complete their final two years towards the M.D. in one of six cooperating medical schools – Albany Medical College, Dartmouth Medical School, New York Medical College, NYU School of Medicine, SUNY Downstate Medical Center, and SUNY Stony Brook School of Medicine. Our Physician Assistant (PA) Program is a 28-month upper division program leading to a BS degree and certification as a Physician Assistant. It was one of the first baccalaureate degree-granting physician assistant programs in the country.

The Society is founded upon the core beliefs that one can achieve one's dreams with the proper support and dedicated action, and that we accomplish more together than we would achieve alone. As a child, Gary was an extremely slow reader and struggled in school. In order to overcome this difficulty, he learned strategies to increase his reading speed, concentration, memory, and grades, and became an Ivy League graduate. Inspired by his ability to set "unrealistic" goals with focused action and support, he dedicated the next decade out of college helping college students to achieve the success they desire. Benjamin Franklin once said, "Many people die at 25 and aren't buried until 75." People don't go after their dreams because they don't believe they are possible. The vision of the Society was inspired by the passion of helping people wake up and believe in their own potential that they might not be seeing yet. The National Society of Leadership and Success was founded with the sole purpose of creating lasting positive change. Beginning with a handful of chapters, the Society now reaches tens of thousands of students at hundreds of chapters around the world. The Society encourages community action, volunteerism, personal growth, and strong leadership from its chapters and members around the world.

New York, NY 10031

Course Outline The objective of this course is to explore the principal risks and opportunities faced by corporate financial managers and international money managers in a world of volatile currencies, interest rates and different financial, accounting and fiscal systems. The main topics include management of interest rate and currency exposure, understanding the use of derivative instruments to manage risk (including options, futures and swaps) and the use of financial innovations in raising of funds in global markets. The points of view taken will be those of (1) corporate financial managers and possibly (2) international investors (tbd). In particular we will focus on both the numerous alternatives available to modern treasurers to achieve a particular set of liability characteristics and the opportunities available to the asset management industry from a global perspective Our focus (questions you should ask throughout the course & with your projects) Companies are nowadays getting more international. What are the implications of this from a financial perspective? How do we evaluate an international project? How do we account for country and currency risk? How do we choose our shareholders when we go international? Which market should we tap into to raise new capital? Where is it better to borrow? How can we reduce our cost of capital by issuing in different countries/currencies? How do we hedge the economic and transaction exposure that arises from operating internationally? These are the types of questions we will address in this course. We will concentrate on the features that make operating abroad a unique challenge and we will see how to turn them into sources of comparative advantage. Structure The course will be taught by Professor Howe. Teaching methods will include lectures, case discussions and visitor presentations. Cases will be based on group work. Participants are invited to form work groups during the first week of the course. Please inform Professor Howe of group membership. Forums will be set up for groups to collaborate on Facebook.
